Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I don't care about the detail. What worries me is that I could possibly be drunk and in a taxi that has an accident and I get the blame because I had some alcohol in my system.

Travel Insurance also looks at alcohol in the system as a reason not to pay out

Pushka I have been to Dubai and hopefully never going back.
As I said in my first post here I didn't believe this story.Yet there are so many more absolutely disgraceful cases about Dubai this case doesn't change my mind.

I hear what you are saying, drron, and in general, I may have the same opinion of the authorities in the UAE as you do. It might be a case of 'my bad' but I don't use the experiences of others to judge whether I visit the country as a tourist - well, at least not as a first filter. Russia, Iran, Burma, South Africa during apartheid, South Africa after apartheid .... all have some awful stories about how their government treats citizens and, on occasion, visitors. I've visited them to my benefit, and, I hope to some small benefit of those in the tourist industry there that I come into contact with. I respect those who might hold higher moral values than me, but I think if they applied their wisdom strictly, it would be a very small world.

Most (not all) of the UAE cases have been brought about by people acting stupidly and flouting local laws and customs. In many countries where its 'visitor V local', the visitor often gets the rough end of the justice pineapple.

The tribal mores of many of the Emiratis are contrary to most western belief structures.
Cheating to win is honourable and is a sign of great achievement to be greatly rewarded.
Killing, even torturing animals, for fun is likewise "honourable".
Might is right and no quarter is given or offered.
There is usually extant a very polished facade of politeness and civility that fools many and masks an ugly truth.
Behaviour patterns are a deadly coughtail of traditional desert tribalism overlaid with muslim beliefs.
Neither , on their own or together, are necessarily evil ; but overweening power and wealth allow behaviour patterns that can be very dangerous to less powerful innocents caught in the web.
Some of you were likely horrified by one of Juddles recent stories about girls and crocs.
At the time I thought that Juddles "friends" probably made some Emiratis look like angels…..

Though if you are a women you might think differently. This from our local sunny coast rag.
<snip>
The only stupid thing many such women have done is report rape to the police.
For me it was observing the Emirati's treatment of the Pakistani/Bengali workers.

Sure, and not all men are treated well there either.

Yes, understand. But I think sometimes we choose to ignore the ‘disgraces’ of other countries because we just want to go there. I’ll at a minimum throw Russia, USA, Singapore, and so on. And even Australia has a lot to be sorry about.

I’m interested in the BAC of 0.04

Her last alcoholic drink would have been maybe 2 hours before arrival, then her BAC test would have been takenseveral hours after the arrival and immigration kerfuffle. Normally transportation to hospital for this is required.

I dare say that she would have visibly intoxicated at the immigration check

Certainly not one complimentary drink
Even a petite Insta girl would not get a BAC of 0.04 after 1 drink, let alone several hours later

Was the statement by the UAE attorney General in response to the worldwide interest in this story?

It does paint the UAE in a certain light (fairly or unfairly) because whatever the details of the story, the detail that has generated the most interest was the BAC of 0.04. All it takes is for one immigration officer to raise a suspicion of intoxication and the passenger goes into the slammer.

Even though our BAC limit is 0.05, the common message by RBT is “don’t drink and drive”.

Is EK and EY practically “don’t drink and fly” airlines?.

I don’t know if this issue potentially affects their airline business but I have a suspicion that the statement by the authorities and deportation rather than trial might have been to prevent any negative business implications while deflecting the BAC issue by not mentioning it directly. Most people won’t have issue with the visa/passport issue. However many would have concerns about the BAC. Unfortunately the Attorney General did not allay those concerns

Does this have any RSA implications for the gulf airlines

And whilst not been totally up to speed on the incident, I've seen posters referring to Travel Insurance. Being 0.04% , whilst legal for driving in many places , is all they need to deny. You are on your own, in Dubai that's a given anyway, regardless of nationality. On gender, drunk and female you are totally up the proverbial creek....

This just reinforces to many to be extra careful on flights to the Gulf. Might even save EK a few $$ on their alcohol bill.

Maybe a stricter interpretation of public intoxication like this one should be enforced for the DPS flights

Sitting as a passenger in a taxi that has an accident?

They will use any excuse not to pay, although it does need to be a stronger connection than "what if".

So get into a taxi after a few and the taxi crashes, you'll be fine (insurance wise). Run across a major highway after a few without a really good reason and you'd likely be on your own.

Where did you get that one from?

On our QR flight to Doha last May the crew were extremely happy to ply me with alcohol and were even disappointed when I declined eventually. And this was during Ramadan.

Most Gulf cabin crews I suspect don’t do Ramadan
