Another Celeb denied access to Qantas Lounge [Dress code]

Literally no one is saying that. It’s a false dichotomy to suggest that the only two options are Sunday best or no dress code at all.

In fact there is a thread on here from several years ago arguing that people should wear jackets etc. in the Qantas Club. However I'm not 100% convinced it wasn't tongue in cheek :)

There’s a massive middle ground that I’d say 90% of us occupy which is the entire gamut from just above the bare minimum (ie: meaning you don’t look like you’ve either just rolled in out of bed or walked off the beach.)

And that’s really the point, the dress code as it stands is hardly onerous.
Eg: No thongs or ugg boots is hardly difficult to comply with. T shirt, shorts and sneakers gets a pass. They’ve set the bar pretty low.

I deliberately used the extreme - not due to any comment here but to reflect there are still some people out there who feel this way. A small number. And I used the extreme very specifically to illustrate the variations in what any one person might consider "appropriate"

As for the huge middle ground - sure.. but as this whole thing with the activewear illustrates some think it's appropriate, some do not.

Sure, the dress code in general is not onerous and it's easy for things like thongs and ugg boots (though the whole open or closed toe sandal thing seems to ... trip.. people up)... it becomes far more grey with things like "offensive slogans on shirts" or "activewear" because they are so subjective!! And THAT was my main point.

I am very happy to keep to a certain level of dress but yes, I wear jeans and runners. Some people will look down on that and think I'm <insert word here>.. I don't care as long as I'm clean, polite and don't offend anyone else so what? That doesn't mean I don't think there should be some sort of standards at a bare minimum. That's what QF wants clearly, but the range of interpretations and inconsistent implementation is the big issue for me.

Rather than a matter of dress-sense, my concern with bare feet in shops and footpaths is more about personal safety. Bits of glass/debris or a tack on the ground causing injury to feet, not to mention getting home and finding the doggy-doo that has squished up between the toes.

As far as lounges go, although I’ve seen broken glass on the carpet, I haven’t seen any doo-doo as yet, but hey ..... 😀

Those are common concerns expressed by the unshod. Us barefooters will watch where we're heading well in advance. 😁

There is zero hope of QF getting this right given the vague nature of some of the requirements. If QF can't get well defined things right like priority boarding and lounge access rules where there is absolutely no ambiguity, then enforcing dress codes is bound to be a failure.

QF doesn't help itself by stating on the website the list of inappropriate wear "includes, but is not limited to"

As the saying goes,
6A12E3CD-1032-41FD-8119-2ACC3EFA4EF6.jpeg

To cater to this, I’d imagine the “includes but is not limited to” is a caveat, to cover outfits so ridiculous that no one foresaw a person wearing it. Eg: toilet roll Egyptian mummy, spiderman suit etc etc.

Not entirely unheard of on bucks weekends.

Would it be offensive o try an enter a QF lounge with a tee saying "QANTAS is one of the worst airlines in the free world"? Asking for a blogger friend...
With a current definition of the free world on the back?

Equitable application of the dress code, who new that was such a bad thing.

According to media sources from the twitter feed - this may have been the clothes in question?

Note how the photo of the male figure is cropped.....

Her husband will be in for a shock if he tries to enter an Onsen in Japan as well from what I am led to believe.

If so - she probably got caught in the "head to toe" part of the gymwear rules, looks like more shades of grey pain coming for Qantas about differeing clothing rules and standards, especially with the recent fashion trend where they are trying to breakdown the divisions between fashion and "activeware" (which is just really give the appearance similar to the SUV craze where people want to appear like they have just come down off the logging track/mountain/cliff/gym/running track and come straight to the airport.)

Actually the photo wasn't cropped on twitter, only by the media sources you saw.

Her post as above then shows ignorance of (or rather not reading) the actual code. they've been enforced per the rules.

Seems to me she's also calling out her husband as a bit of a bogan?! :p

As someone with full sleeve tattoos on both arms, people constantly bring up that "Oh, but you'll never be able to enter an onsen".

Honestly could not care less, and he's probably the same.

Chiming in late on this one - it's not like there aren't private onsen type situations where anyone with tattoos would be able to go. If they so wish.

No at all. They let him in when he should have been excluded as per the rules.
Her post makes the point perfectly that the rules were not applied equally.

What part of the dress code did he break of the dress code? Was he in thongs?

I would never use that argument. Throw someone under the bus just to make my point.

Head to toe sports wear???
That is certainly the type of thing I would wear to the gym, when I did go to the gym. If the standard says that sports attire is acceptable casual wear for the bloke, then what's good for the gander is good for the goose.

I would never apply my ethical standards to judge others. But more than happy if others want to do so.
It's not as if the guy is some random person, it's her partner. That is precisely when there should be equal treatment of men and women.

Sure, if you think that's head to toe sportswear. I see a bloke in a tshirt and shorts (and I would imagine runners). Lots of people wear similar in the lounges.

I think the head to toe sportswear is basically tracksuits and.. well.. what she's wearing lol.

Though that we consider what he's wearing in that pic to be different things (in respect of gym/sports wear or not) that just underlines every point made about how subjective these rules are.

so thanks :)
