How bad do you want to have Platinum status?[/QUOTE]

Its not so much about me wanting staus - Platinum would be great but its not something I urgently need.

It would just be nice, for those of us who may not spend as much, but are still very loyal, frequent flyers, to be recognised more easily. Still, its equally as important not to devalue the program by making it too easy for people to earn status.

How much does your trip to BKK via HKG etc set set you back? Im going to BKK in December, I might give it a go.

Got any tips for getting to Vietnam, using OneWorld?

It can vary on exchange rates but somewhere around $1800-$2000. I purchase return airfares from SE Asia back to Australia which gives a significant saving as it takes seasonality out of the equation.

A combination of QF and CX.

Does JQ go to Vietnam? Then *Class is also another option.

Just booked Y BA flight GLA - LHR for Sept. 5 pounds sterling fare plus 35 pounds taxes. Used BA website entered FF number and given seat 1A. There seems to be a status god after all!

Re: ~5

I thought he must have been in 4B but he kept walking down to row 8 or 9 and sat down. I could not be bothered arguing with him or calling an FA and just put my laptop bag down under the seat in front where 4B wold have been sitting.

Why are people so selfish? Now this moron was going to hold up all the people behind him when disembarking to retrieve his stuff from the overhead locker above row 4.

I had one that took the cake last week.

Sat down in my seat (2A), and to my surprise there was a bag and a jacket already at my feet. I called an FA over as I thought someone on the previous flight may have left it there.

Turns out that the person sitting in 1A didn't want to put her bag and jacket in the lockers and as 2A and 2C was empty when she boarded, she put everything literally under her seat (as it's a bulkhead, everything needs to go up - which is the reason why I popped myself in 2A).

Needless to say, it all soon went up :)

As for status differences, here's a rather amusing comparison at OLCI - the one on the right is a colleague who I decided to bring along for a trip tomorrow. He has no status, and wasn't fortunate enough to have been on my booking:

Well, I've just made Gold, last week. My advance seat selection options went from row 18 back to row 11 back - all on 737s. At T-80 I can now get upto row 8 aisle seats and row 6 for middle or window seats.

Well done on making Gold!! it's a great milestone!

I have exactly the same seat availability on a 737 when I go to the seat selection and get as close as Row 6 at T-80.

Just completed a sector that I last flew 18 months ago as a lowly Silver. I went from 2 rows from the back last time, to second from the front this time. Next flight takes me to back to WP after a long time near the tail. :)

Congratulations Stealth. :D

Ok, just a question on this which did occur to me, this is for MEL/SYD a big route for WP's.

Whats the percentage of seat allocations on other flights that are not as traditional WP intensive say to a more holiday focused destination? do they still block out a big chunk like this? then come T-80 release those that are unused? or is it route based?

just for curiosity sake.

good point ReLoad. I would also say other heavy WP loads would be those out of CBR and possibly Perth.

anyone got any data on this?

Cheers

Bumping an old thread I know, but I found something really interesting for my flight tomorrow (we're now at T-24 so I thought I'd check in).

I'm flying from CBR-SYD, and the seat map is this (as a WP):

QF seat selection reflects that, but didn't at T-80 when I successfully snagged 6A.

Ignoring the middle seats, I've never seen that many seats blocked as a WP before on a 734 so it has me curious - or maybe I'll be surrounded by pollies as Parliament breaks up today :)

You on a Friday flight out of CBR after a week of Parliament!

You're lucky to be able to select so far forward. At least Row 6 has extra pitch on the 734.

Yeah, it was lucky (thanks to ExpertFlyer seat alerts). It did however come at a cost though - yay for flexible tickets without needing them :)

That'll teach me for making plans in Sydney on a Friday night without checking parliamentary schedules. I'm usually the one on the empty planes back to CBR on a Friday night where every class shows "9" on E/F and where one can pick up a ticket 10 minutes before check in closes for as cheap as $79 (yes I've done that) :)

Try the Thursday night departure to BNE the day parliament ended. Bob Katter (complete with the hat) was back in 24A last night! So I can't complain about being relegated to row 14 on the 100% full flight.

Quick question, Has T-80 changed?

Been flying weekly for the past few and it doesn't seem to open up until T-24. I am SG. For example, next Tues MEL-SYD at 8am, now is past T-80 and nothing. Going to have to check my Syd-BNE Wed night at 11am tomorrow right on the dot to see what happens there.

Anyone else noticed?

I thought politicians had travel allowance for J when on parliamentary business? Obviously not!

Except for when J is full - if you want to get on the plane Y it is :)

Anyway, someone else no doubt got my 6A. I went to the airport early and hopped on an earlier service - that flexible ticket came in handy after all.

Got 11C with 11B empty. Worked out great as every middle seat from row 8 to as far back as I could see was filled except for the one that mattered the most :)

Katter seems to like sitting back amongst the constituents.

Love him or loathe him, he is a real character: I've watched him stride into the TSV QP, toss his hat up on the divider, and by the time he has reached the F&B counter - someone has yelled out "hey Bob" and the whole place takes on the atmosphere of an FNQ local on a Friday night. And if he's flying with a Cairns based QantasLink crew, he's welcomed like a local legend.

It will depend on the route and also how loaded the flight is. Usually if the aircarft is more empty then your see more at T-80. At least that is how it seems to be on my ADL-SYD-ADL flights. This is why it pays to keep checking. I also suspect that things change as others move around in the cabin, both for T-80 and also OLCI. For example for a 6am flight once you have a seat selected there is little point doing OLCI at 6am a day early. Better to wait until a few people have checked in and moved themselves around a bit.

I don't think going home at the end of a sitting week is considered parliamentary business. Attendance at sittings is electorate business.
