I have just received an email below from AA, so I have posted this in AA Discussion Board (and my 2000th post!):

In the second quarter of 2015, we'll reach the next milestone on our path to integration by combining our frequent flyer programs into a single AAdvantage loyalty program. View a full timeline of events »

Here's what you can expect:

Combining accounts

If you have a Dividend Miles[SUP]®[/SUP] and an AAdvantage account, we'll combine them in the second quarter of 2015. You'll hear from us early next year with information on how to quickly and easily match your accounts online. When we combine programs, we'll move your Dividend Miles award mileage balance, elite‑qualifying activity and million mile balance into your AAdvantage account on a one‑to‑one ratio. With your balances added together, you'll have more miles to redeem for things like flights, flight upgrades, vacation packages, car rentals, hotel stays and more. Learn how we'll combine your accounts »

Earning & redeeming miles

Earning miles will continue to be easy. You'll still be able to earn miles by making everyday purchases and by flying. Plus, you'll be able to redeem your miles for any available seat with AAnytime[SUP]®[/SUP] Awards and for upgrades on US Airways flights. With American Airlines, US Airways and our oneworld[SUP]®[/SUP] alliance partners, you have access to nearly 1,000 destinations and your opportunities for earning and redeeming miles are endless.

On January 1, 2015, we'll increase bonus miles on American and US Airways Business Class tickets from 25% to 50% to match what you receive in First Class.

Reaching elite status

In 2015, the AAdvantage program will continue to offer three elite status levels, and you'll still have three ways to qualify with elite‑qualifying miles, points and segments.

Here's how it will work:

Keep flying to become an elite member. Members enjoy a number of exceptional benefits including priority treatment through the airport, upgrade privileges, free checked bags and more. Learn about elite benefits »

We'll keep you updated as we move forward with other important integration milestones.

If you are points poor (or miles poor) you can do both USDM and AA purchases now knowing the two accounts will get merged.
130k miles from USDM per person could be a handy addition for an AA miles user as post merger AA will probably keep the 80k annual cap.

This is odd, so on a 3-class aircraft you will earn the same in J and F?

Anyone expecting an 'enhancement' to the redemption amounts? I can't see AA leaving them at the current amounts some how...

looks like we have until Feb/Mar 2015 to book awards via current USDM rules, that won't be possible or more expensive via AA rules.

eg OZ-Nth America via Asia as one award.

Plan plan plan...

Yes one ways are the way I think when I book many flights.

An increase in number of segments to qualify for each status level.

They had better not. That would be a serious devaluation to my current AA mile balance.

Not really - the current levels are similar to those for most other American based frequent flyer programs - they are competing there - not in SWP.

it's good news. The ratio is 1:1 and that's the main thing. I'll for sure be able to book lots of OW flights with my 1/2M points:p

I have both AA and USDM accounts. For various reasons (none valid I might add) I've never purchased USDM. That's about to change now, big time.

US Dividend Miles requires a 12 day enrollment gap so start the process today/tomorrow. Deal ends November 12th I believe.

Unfortunately you're a bit late to the party Princess. US just decreased their BUY promo bonus such that it's now on par with the AA bonus promos. This enhancement was well documented over a month ago among all the bloggers.

Personally, one-way is nice, but the US open-jaw/stopover benefit with their extremely liberal routing rules is far better. Might have to book one last Oz-Asia-NA FCL award for 140k.

They still allow you to buy more miles than AA though ?

Yes you can buy 80k and get 50k bonus so it is better than AA on quantity and you can do both US and AA. You need to enroll very soon with US Air Dividend Miles due to the 12 day wait for the full account set up and then get miles done by November 12th.

Thanks cove :)
I've had a USDM account for a couple of years now. Just signed up Shrek today :D

I have to agree.
Booking one way is a good benefit but I usually need to return home at the end of my trips ;)
I have miles with both AA & US and so far I used much more USDM because the benefits are just better IMO. When maximising routing options, number of segments, layovers and stopovers the overall value is simply unbeatable.
