AAdvantage and US Dividend Miles - Combining our loyalty programs in 2015

So, now that the programs have combined how do you make changes to an existing USDM booking? Do you still ring US Airways or do you now ring AAdvantage?

This gives some guidance sergeyvzn; from the e-mail I received today (my bolding):

We've created a single loyalty program by bringingUS Airways Dividend Miles[SUP]®[/SUP] members into theAAdvantage program. This is a very important milestone in our merger, and itputs us one step closer to operating as one airline.

Here are a few things to know:

Your account

You can continue to log in to aa.com using your AAdvantage number or emailaddress (now your username). You may notice a delay in miles and activity beingposted to your account for a few days while we're combining programs. But restassured, you will receive what you earn.

Earning & redeeming

You can now redeem miles for upgrades on US Airways flights. And you'llcontinue earning miles when you fly on American, US Airways, oneworld
[SUP]®[/SUP] and other participating airlines, as well as with over 1,000partners.
Traveling with us

We'll continue to operate as two separate airlines with separate websites, mobile sites and apps until later this year. Until then, policies includingsame-day flight change and standby will vary by airline. You can still booktravel on both websites. And, you should continue to check in and manage yourtrips with the airline operating your flight.

It's truly a great time to be part of the AAdvantage program, and we thank youfor your continued loyalty.

so i combined my accounts but forgot to the do the missus', and now she's had a new AA account created. Any ideas how to fix please? (she has balances in both so would be great to combine)

You kind of answer your own question  Dividend Miles no longer exists, it has been absorbed into AAdvantage. So therefore you can not call Dividend Miles any more.

However, while the USDM frequent flyer program has been merged into AA's frequent flyer program, US Airways - as an airline, is still operating independently from AA the airline (for the time being).

So enquiries about bookings made through US Airways "the airline", still go to US Airways, but
reward bookings made through US Dividend Miles "the frequent flier" program now go to AAdvantage (the new name for US Airways frequent flyer program).

One of the emails AA sent out said that there would be a way to combine duplicate accounts after the merger. I'm in a similar situation, I didn't link accounts because I wanted to be able to make a US redemption right up to the last date pre-combo. I haven't received an email for the new AA account with the former US points in it yet, but I'm guessing that once the program merger is fully complete there will be details provided on how to do it.

When I recently logged in to my USDM account, it showed that a new AA account had been created, in place of my of USDM account . So I now have two AA account numbers,

From what I recall, AA is to automatically merge the accounts in the second quarter (provided that the details match).

Now that the programs are combined, I have a date of 20/05/2016 for miles that will be expiring.

So, what is the best/cheapest/easiest way to extend the miles (activity in my account), for a Aussie based AA member?

Buy some miles, even just a token amount.

well, this is incorrect

I've just managed to changed my USDM booking but it wasn't straight-forward at all. I rang the Advantage number but after giving them my USDM PNR they said that all USDM award bookings that were booked prior to 20 March are still handled by US Airways so I was put through to the US Airways reservation where a typical old USDM style reservation agent said "sorry, can't change your Y sector to J as this requires cancelling the whole thing and reposting the miles and starting again"...which is not true, of course. HUACA

A second call was much better. This time I just rang the former USDM preferred line that is now apparently "AAdvantage" preferred or this is at least what the welcome message says. You get to talk to an AA agent first but they still put you through to the USDM team. Luckily, the preferred line team is still excellent and the change was done in 5 minutes and free of charge, as it should be according to the AAdvantage rules as I only changed the class from Y to J on one segment.

So even if the programs are combined now, there are still two different teams

No it's not, you go on to explain how both your calls to AAdvantage were handled...

So, call AAdvantage - and where appropriate the AAgent will transfer the call to another AAdvantage AAgent (one who was a former DM agent and) who knows the old DM system, and who can assist with old DM bookings.

NB: US agents are different from (former) DM agents, in the same way that Qantas reservations are different from Frequent Flyer reservations, and Virgin reservations are different from Velocity reservations.

I guess what I was meaning to say was that if your reservation you want to change is a former USDM one - don't bother ringing AAdvantage as all they do is putting you through back to the former USDM team. You might as well ring the former USDM number direct. It's still working, only the pre-recorded message has changed and instead of "Welcome to USDM" you hear "Welcome to AAdvantage". The prompts are the same, the people are the same and reservation systems are still different

Well I'm very happy with how easy it was to book SYD - TPE for Jan 2016. Think the call took me 5 minutes..maybe 6

35K in J and <$100 taxes. Compare that to QFF who want 78K and close to $200

Also was able to get an earlier flight via AA than QF so get to TPE around 5pm instead of 2030.

I feel it was much easier than dealing with USDM.
