There was an article about this in 'The Advertiser' which is a low class sensationalist rag covering Adelaide news (OK, maybe that is partly why they have to senationalise! ;) )

Anyway this waste of trees had some jaded hack covering a light aircraft emergency landing which happend about the same time (fun landing with no wheels down) and he commented in his tripe filled article that there were "a lot of aircraft fanatics" there at the airport to see the A380 visit.

So, y'all a bunch of fanatics see! :D

today i went and viewed from in the airport, where the old cab rank used to be around the bend from the new terminal... was the best spot, not many ppl, landed infront of us and taxied past then took off again...
i imagine tapleys hill rd would have been a bit coughpy tonight to view from, unless it lands from over the sea again

But the wife reckons her video is good, so I'll work on that.

The video wasn't that good. The take off is totally missing for some unknown reason. But my first you tube vid is here, if interested:

YouTube - Qantas A380 Landing in Adelaide

Not the best quality video, but it sure gives a feel for the experience. Echo her comments about being hard to see the aircraft in the camera. The world's biggest airliner and it's just a few pixels in the viewfinder.

You should post a warning - the related video clips on YouTube can eat up an easy hour or so!

As my first you tube vid, I really cut it down in quality and only exported as an mpeg1, I should check if there is a file limit and maybe upload the avi.
Checking the tape was a real disappointment in the end because she thought she filmed the takeoff perfectly, including until it banked to the right. She always does the filming, says the counter was ticking over and the "rec" light was on. But the tape is blank, absolutely nothing there.

The related videos sure are great, they were positioned great for the landing. I preferred our position for the takeoff. But I reckon the roof of harbour town would have been the best.

Here are some pics that I took on the weekend.

Sorry for the poor quality but I had to shrink my 6MB files down to 100KB for the upload. Besides, I don't know how to get better resolution images up on this web page.

The second to last pic DSC_2660.JPG really shows how pinched the A380 fuselage is just aft of the main wing.

Not pinched - the fuselage itself is pretty much the same cross section from aft of the coughpit to forward of the tailfin - it's just that Airbus products use a bulge around the wingroots to hold all sorts of extra stuff than doesn't need to be pressurised. Like the main gear. Boeings tend to have a "cleaner" design.

Of course. I stand corrected.

I was also impressed how massively curved the wingroot is in that pic.

After having seen both SQ & QF A380s, I prefer the A380 in QF colours

Yeah, looks almost like it's going to start flapping to lift the bird into the sky!

Great pix, BTW. Aircraft can be very hard to photograph, especially if the sun's in the wrong spot, or there are security fences in the way. You don't get much time for second chances, neither.

Does anyone know what time it is due to arrive on each day? Along with thousands of others saw it last Saturday, in a car park provided adjacent to the runway and got a great view. One big problem was the time is took to get out of the car park, a huge traffic jam. We abandoned the car and went to McDonalds until the crowds had gone.

Thanks. Will start planning viewing points.

Is is certified to CBR? 747's have great difficulty getting in and out of the place. AF1 needed to have the landing lights taken out on Bush visit.
All to do with power to weight ratios. I'm sure the A380 would be relatively light for it's visit.

Mind you it would use up a lot of pavement concessions.

All well and good, but I suspect that once these things start arriving with real passengers, there will be biiiiiig problems. Arriving back in Melb on Air NZ 07 on Saturday, it took almost 2 (two) hours for the bags to be delivered to the carousel due to (and I quote the announcement here) "... a shortage of equipment".

Disgraceful. Every so often there would be an announcement to the effect that "... it won't be long now" but nothing happening. And even we could see that the conveyor that comes down from the ceiling was stopped with bags sitting on it, whilst those in charge (ha ha I use this term advisedly) needed half an hour to recognise the same issue.

But full marks to the Quarantine guys, once our bags were delivered there was a queue snaking around the entire floor to get to the exit, and as soon as they saw this happening, they expedited everyone's departure who was not actually declaring anything obviously environment threatening.

AF1 is actually the reason that the A380 could visit CBR.

AF1 badly damaged CBR runway and the repairs extended the runway so that it can take virtually any current aircraft.
