A380 in Y - best seats (80A/80K/71D/50C etc.)

I've just allocated myself to 80A on QF10 and 80K for on QF31 for mid April. Hopefully the 10min delay in getting off 80A won't be a problem, with my connection departing in just 90mins time.

If that's MEL ir SIN you should have little issue. (Especially MEL if you have an ePassport.)

Had 80A on LAX-SYD recently. Great seat if you must fly Y class. I don't know how many long haul Y flights I have left in me though. It's tough going, even in this seat.

Maybe I just need to train myself to sleep in an upright position. :(

Try to use one of the passport reading machines just as you get off the plane. (Not sure if they have them in Sydney as you get off the plane) It makes it a bit quicker when you get down to immigration. (From my experience most folk seem to use the machines near immigration, although the queues are nowhere near as bad as the non e passport queues.)

I would love to use the epassport feature, but with my passport being an ancient L series, it's off to the long and winding queue for me. :(

I flew 80K SYD-LAX and 71D on LAX-SYD. Loved every minute of it. It made the trip in economy amazingly comfortable, and I slept most of the way (almost 10 hours on the way home!).

Cannot recommend 80A/80K/71D enough to anyone.

Please don't ;)

It's getting harder and harder to nab them.

Although I did just nab 80K both ways for SWMBO later in the year :)

I don't think it really matters if you have a high status? I always thought you could take the seat off someone of a lower status as long as they haven't checked-in yet?

Can anyone confirm or deny that 80A, 80K and 71D now require status to be pre-allocated? If so what is the lowest status required?

P.S I believe that if you do not have any status then you cannot even pre-allocate these seats if you paid for the privilege to pre-allocate seats.

Well I have noticed on EF (for some Nov/Dec flights that 80A/K shows as blocked (like exit rows), but for me the whole rest of the cabin shows empty.

That said, I haven't tried it with a different status, and EF has been known to differ from QF seatmaps.

I can't confirm that it is the case, but im returning from LHR on 29th May and seat 80a is still available currently and has been the way for the last 4 weeks - so my gut feeling is that those seats are now allocated to SG and WP.

I'm on QF9 in the next fortnight in Y, can someone recommend a seat for me if 80A/80K are taken, as well as 71D?

I need the leg room, sick of holding up the seat in front of me with my knees. Currently in 86C, don't care about proximity to toilets, just to stretch my legs into the aisle every now and then.

I managed to grab 80a/k both ways SIN-BNE via MEL/SYD a couple days ago as a QPPS. So either it's a really new change, or QP/PS is enough.

MEL-SIN-LHR is tough going. I'd actually recommend getting an exit row if you can't snag 80A/K or 71D. I've found that the non-aisle seats are the best exit rows to have because pax & FAs will tend to trip over your legs.

Can't confirm (given I'm SG), however have also noticed it blocked on ExpertFlyer.

Anyone without any status and an A380 flight in the near future care to spend to $20 to find out if these seats are indeed blocked for non-satus passengers.

Personally, without trying to offend anyone, I believe these seats should be reserved as premium seats for status flyers, perhaps even restricted to Chairmans Lounge and Platinum.

So if these rumour are true then QF has gone part of the way to recognising these seats as premium seats. Unfortunately that is the power of these type of threads on these forums.

I snagged one of those seats before the new system, so I can't confirm either. However, I have been left in the seat...
