50 SC for signing up to Qantas Health Insurance

I do agree that according to the T&Cs, you should still get the status credits. The wording says "Bonus Status Credits will only be awarded to the primary policyholder after the policy has been held for 60 continuous days" which you have.

I guess I just feel a little uneasy about cancelling before the SCs arrive, since that was the whole point of getting the insurance for me.

That was the point for me too. I honestly didn't even consider that I might not get the SCs if I've already cancelled.

If you don't (for whatever reason), I guess you can always put in a claim and quote the original T&Cs as you should be entitled to the SCs.

I'll give it another few days, but I won't just keep paying for the policy indefinitely if the SCs take months to arrive. Especially since I'm now in NZ and can't actually use any of the cover!

T&Cs specifically state it must be done in writing or on the phone. Expect the hard sell when you call.

I tried to cancel via the chat function, arguing that was in writing. But they wouldn’t have it.

So I phoned and when asked why I was cancelling said “the inability to perform basic tasks via chat”.

But as @Daver6 says, you will need to be assertive.

I cancelled today. Waited 20 minutes on hold to speak to somebody and was asked why I wanted to cancel, but wasn't too difficult other than that.

I cancelled last monday and changed my payment card to a 0 value visa debit. guess what, they still tried to take payment yesterday! i got the 6k points, SC i was promised would post in 14 days.

I too will cancel the card in couple weeks after actually using the insurance.

I'd feel bad if qantas hadn't stuffed me around so many times in the past.

6k points handy, the 50SC credits no use to me.

Both the missus and I got the points last week and SC a few days after.

Was going to cancel straight away but the dental will come in handy first.

Is this still worth churning? The deal I have at the moment is 120k points in my app...

I was thinking, based on what I have read, get it, cancel in in 60ish days?

When I cancelled they did inform me that the next payment was already scheduled but would be refunded.

Thoughts I'd share my experience. Hope this helps.

Got my SCs and points the other day. They were a bit later than I would've liked, coming about a week after my 9th weekly payment (63 days).

I cancelled my policy, and found that you could only do this over the phone. It's a bit frustrating, as you can sign up online at any time, but you can't cancel online. The difficult part is they're only open on weekdays, but they're open till 7PM, and if you get a hold of them on the phone, you can get them to give you a call back at your nominated time. Otherwise if the line is busy, there's an automated service that offers to call you back. That's great! There's nothing worse than listen to hold music fade in and out, not knowing whether or not someone has picked up the phone on the other line. I wish more companies would do this.

The other good thing was the customer service was professional and polite. Even though I had told them that I was cancelling it due to fulfilling the promotion. They even offered to refund me my last payment, as I had tried to call them on Sunday.

Overall, the experience has shown me that the QANTAS health insurance product has excellent service.

But, I don't feel that I'm their target market. I don't have faith that health insurance in general will cover me, as I don't know what I'll need it for until something happens. It's also the classic insurance trick where you think you're covered but find out that you're not due to the fine print. Had this happen previously, with another insurer, where I had an accident, and didn't know the extent of the damage till weeks later, where I was told (read the terms myself) that I wasn't eleigible because I didn't go to a hospital within 24 hours.

Personally, I just get the cheapest health insurance out there that gets me my Medicare tax rebate back.
