Good to see the passion for the First Lounge is still there for some people.

I tend to agree.

Would love to visit the First lounge for the company but sadly my doctor has warned me about flying Jetstar.
LOL. I agree. In fact, I think the Jetstar website should have similar health warnings and pictures that you find on cigarette packs.

Ah b*ugger. Don't say that. My first Jetstar flight is in October into Queenstown.

At least I got a JASA into Auckland, so it's only a short hop.

I just had my first visit to the SYD F lounge and was surprised by how busy it was. Could not get a table to eat so was offered light meals at the lounge section. Also due to number of people it was like a noisy pub - could not hear my partner speak across the table!

This was today before QF5 dept at 1.10pm - just a bad time to go or is 11am always this bad?

First world problems I know but seriously the gate was more quiet and relaxed...

Was like that last time I was there around 1pm. But at least I was offered the full menu in the lounge section, not just light meals. Did manage to get a table after the first course though.

I was told on that visit that QF is considering converting one of the lounge sections in order to expand restaurant capacity.

PS. The Salt n Pepper Squid was fantastic as reported!

Pity the lunch menu doesn't kick in until midday though...

Health warning sounds like a great idea.

I'm interested that everyone is so positive about the spa. Out of about 6-7 visits to the Flounge I've only managed twice to get spa appointments, both times rather grudgingly and once with the therapist breathing garlic fumes into my face the whole time. One appointment was 10 mins and the other was about 20 mins. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm flying in J or discount Y as to the chance of getting an appointment, it's just a lottery a bit like QF points upgrades.

first class passengers can make appointments the day before, so it's only what's left that can be divided up on the day if departure.

This is why sometimes I like daylight savings and the changes they make on the other side of the equator, QF11 leaves at either 1.00pm or 3.00pm depending on the time of year, when it leaves at 1.00pm the experience of the SYD F lounge for me is not the same as the 3.00pm departure where I do notice the extra time and lack of crowds gives a better appreciation of the F Lounge and all that it has to offer

The word is JQ will be flying the new bird 787 SYD/CNS to train crew up for Int. flights Sept/Dec. or longer, so hoping it will be out of Int. T1 as I would make use of that in the 1st lounge.

I hope 'the word' is correct.
Would make a most enjoyable weekend away ;)

I have my 1st opportunity to try the Syd F lounge on the 28th. My domestic connection arrives at 1020 and I'm on QF1 at 1530. I am flying business abd am platinum.
What is my chance of getting a spa booking and does anyone have any hints?

Hi Wayamba, mate I think this article is a pretty 'definite guide' to making the most of the QF F lounge.

Expert tips to make the most of the Qantas First Class Lounge - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

Spa booking chances could be a bit tight because Sydney's QF F lounge is quiet from around 9.30am once the morning flights have all gone but then picks up closer to lunch. So you will have plenty of time in the lounge, but by the time you get there from your 1020 incoming flight, let's say it's 1100, you might be able to grab a spare spot but you may also find the people who've come in early for their own flights have grabbed them.

The advice in the article above is exactly what I do, as soon as I get into the F lounge I go straight to the spa, don't even stop at the bar or restaurant, head straight to the spa and see if there is a booking.

Actually with spa bookings I always ask at the front desk when I enter. They either have the schedule and can arrange a time or they ring the spa and ask if there is a free time.

This is also exactly what I do :)

Oh i disagree! I used to get the 6am out of Canberra to SYD for a 1pm int'l flight - FLounging is so good :)
Well I have to admit we are staying overnight at the airport in Sydney in August and September before flights to Hong Kong and South Africa. While part of the reason is not wanting to get up early for the first flight out of Canberra, getting a reasonable time in the F lounge was another factor :)

Same here, we are doing CNS/SYD day before Int. departure, then depart next day at 10.50am for HKG, so will be at 1st lounge early to saviour whats there for 1st time as WP.
