Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Same here (base of 198K at the time)

Now to work out how to use them! Guess worst case is 4000 QFF, SQ or DJ miles.

Well 20k points gives you instant Gold.

It is also enough for one night at a Holiday Inn, and only 5k short of a free night at a Crowne Plaza. (Slightly less points in each case if you use points+cash). I know blowing points at a HI or HIX is more than likely a waste of points, but if you're in a pinch, they are there.

IMHO sweeping PC points to airline miles isn't good value, but that's just me, but again the "in a pinch" principle applies here, too.

I didn't sign up for the promo (forgot!), but (and I may eat my own words here) I had a pitiful HH balance anyway, so probably wasn't in the running for any of the 20k prizes.

But you would have got 1000 pts regardless and also get double bonus points this coming quarter for the 10K/15K stay xx point promos, useful if you do stay once in a while.

I agree but where does one spend their PC points. I have just over 110,000 PC points which is probably 7 nights in a Holiday Inn at ~AUD100/night so around AUD700 value in PC points.

Alternatively 110,000 PC points is 22,000 Kris Flyer miles which is almost enough for a one-way SYD-BKK which at Christmas time is worth >AUD500. Much more useful to me than expensive hotels.

Didn't miss much. I had ~25,000 HHonors points and only got the original 1,000 PC points for signing up to the promotion.

Well...
Congratulations!
YOU’VE GAINED BACK
PRIORITY CLUB® POINTS
You were one of the top 20,000 “Lucky Losers” in our competition, so we're “giving you back” 20% of your Hilton HHonors® balance in Priority Club points (up to 20,000 points). Your bonus points have already been deposited in your Priority Club account.

I got an easy 20k...
Thanks PC!

I just booked two rooms at AKL Airport Holiday Inn for July for 30,000 PC points.

Last year I used 80,000 PC points for 4 nights at KL Crowne Plaza.

The year before I used 100,000 PC points for two rooms for 10 nights at Crowne Plaza Gold Coast.

I received 13K PC points in this promotion, which is most of the cost of one of the rooms I just booked for AKL Airport Holiday Inn.

This is where some people (including me) can't work out how they ranked the top 20K "biggest losers". 13K PC points = 65K HH points. I had more than that (~69K), and earnt the 1K points that everyone got, but haven't heard anything else since...

I didn't think it was the "top 20%", but the "lucky 20%" meaning it was random as to who received the points.

The problem is that the FAQ of the competition didn't state "random winners", but rather - the top 20,000 points totals:

How are the winners determined?
The entrant submitting the highest verified HHonors Point balance will be awarded 2,000,000 PCR Points. Additional awards of PCR points will be credited to the PCR accounts of the 20,000 entrants submitting the next highest verified HHonors Point balances, as follows: 20% of the Hilton HHonors Points shown on the statement submitted OR 20,000 PCR Points, whichever is lower.

But yes, it did appear to be random as to who were awarded prizes. I have a suspicion that the entry form accepted commas in the points total (as per the way HH lists points totals) but didn't recognise the real points total. But what I entered with a couple of months ago is pretty much a blur now!

Interesting idea - maybe I should have put leading zero's in my total :) Looking at FT it does seem that point awards peter out in the 50,000's but some above this got no points and some below did get points.

Yeah it's weird. I've now emailed them and will see what they come back with.... I really suspect a comma in the points total stuffed up the entry.

I should have submitted my points total in binary ;)

Ft posts have 65K as the post low Qualifying amount so fa.

58K did not seem to qualify. So somehwere in between was the cut off.

Mal, I would chase this based on the anecdotal evidence so far.

So I had no chance. My highest HH balance before the end of the promo was only tipping about 42k.

I woke up this morning at 7am to find a surprising email from PCR received about 2 hours previously.

Checked my PC account and sure enough:
Code:
Other Activity Activity Description Earnings Total Points
29 Mar 2010 HHONORS LUCKIEST LOSER CONTEST 20000 pts. 20000 pts.
I had 148K points in Hilton. I didn't think my balance would be in the Top 20,000.
I've also noticed it has counted towards re-qualification...a third of the way to Platinum :D
You've strengthened the goodwill from this member, PC Rewards :)

I got 20000 PC points also, with HH balance of 120K originally. Now only 1100 points by burning it for 4 nights at Hilton Osaka.

I have always used my PC points on PointBreaks for the last few years, so this 20K points is pretty good for me. In fact I stayed in IC Adelaide for 3 night for 15K points. So now they gave me the points back plus 1 night more :)

Yeah chasing it up. It's a shame that the competition seems so poorly organised. There are reports of people who falsified their balance (>100000) getting points, reports of people not being asked to verify their balance (I wasn't - and people did and didn't get points credited), and reports of people >200K points not receiving their 20K.

Will be interesting to see what the top HH points value was... 5 mill? 2 mill?

How do you falsify your balance? Unless they were never verified.

Put in a random figure. No verification request received.

Also, those who used HH Partner accounts (no longer available) and then both people lodged entries using the same balance is also a little bit dodgy - but I assume legit.
