OW 10% Discount for 10th Birthday

Hi All,

apologies if this has been previously posted but a search didn't pull anything up.

Oneworld are presently offering a 10% discount off their fares for 10 weeks to celebrate the alliance's 10th birthday. Valid for booking made this month until the 12th of April

oneworld - News

They're showing a QF ticketed DONE4 for $9900.

Cheers,
Steve.

A reminder to all this ends tomorrow the 12th April :(
Fares will go up 10% from what they are today but lets hope no more.

If you want to do it through AA to avoid too much YQ then you have to be on the phone tonight or doing it online.

Remembering the only way to AA code share out of South Africa or South Korea is to through book the code share, eg AA5850 / AA168 ICN-JFK (Via NRT)

Could be a long night as i decide if i want to book my 2010 trip now... i am thinking i should as i doubt it will be ever a better price than today even with the current GFC.

IF anybody needs any crazy ideas then just add to the thread and i am able to provide some hints for crazy routings ;)
(Like DONE3 ex-ICN at 44500 miles and 1630 sc's and thats with intersting destinations, if you really want miles optimised then you can get more extreme but not as much fun and interesting places.... ICN-NRT-JFK-DFW-MIA-JFK-YVR-MEX-YVR-LHR-MCT-LHR-IST-LHR-SIN-HKG-ICN, costs 6,763,000 KRW = approx 7200 AUD)

Wow you certainly know how to optimise for points/SC's. I was going to do one of these earlier this year, but my plans changed dramatically, such a shame really because I was so looking forward to it. Another time though... if I ever have the time and money I'll definitely be wanting advice to maximise points/SC. :)

Been trying to do just that Evan - sadly, my SC and travel plan optimised DONE4 routing has changed significantly due to the inability to get any availability on the DFW-ANC legs in mid-late June, which mysteriously stopped working a few weeks ago.

Otherwise, still trying to get one that has a decent SC/mileage return.

Well here is a few...

ICN-NRT-JFK-DFW-ANC-DFW-BOS-LAX-LHR-MCT-LHR-IST-LHR-MEL-SIN-NRT-ICN in J thats 1970 sc and about 53k miles DONE4

ICN-NRT-JFK-DFW-ANC-DFW-BOS-MIA-LAX-LHR-MCT-LHR-IST-LHR-SIN-HKG-ICN in J similar to above but DONE3 1820 sc and 45k miles

Both these will credit well to QF/BA/AA

Good miles can be had on LHR-MCT and LHR-IST in Europe, you can use both, also to/from MAD & BCN.
In the USA, ANC is good, as is something like this JFK-DFW-BOS-MIA-SFO
In South America for there is a nice run like SCL-IPC-SCL-LIM-EZE, you can earn more miles but i figure lots of people would like to see Pachu Picchu and Easter Island. IF you want just miles down there (SYD)-EZE-CCS-SCL-IPC-SCL-(MAD) (Note: CCS flight has no J) or EZE-LIM-SCL-IPC-SCL
In Australia you are more or less limited to SYD/MEL to CNS and AKL
In Asia SIN-NRT/KUL/BKK/SGN, HKG-BLR/BOM, even HKG-NRT/ICN/KIX/DPS can be nice earners.

I did find a way to make over 2000 SC from a DONE4 but its a nasty routing. DONE3's can be high SC earners also with over 1700 not hard.

djfuzz, you not going to take the 10% off and make it happen tomorrow then ? never know maybe other discounts this year with the GFC and oneworld 10 years but hard to guess.

E

No, I'm going to try to take the 10%, just a shame that its impossible to get the ANC routing in there. I just got back from the US and had been thinking of booking through the AA RTW desk and seeing if they had better luck, but then I would have had to wait to get the ticket booked when physically in ICN or make a side trip to Canada, both of which were not feasible within the 10% off window.

My understanding is that the discount is available until 12 April inclusive - so it's not like it has to be booked in the next 5 minutes right?

[EDIT] I might add, I had considerable frustration trying to get the online tool to find availability direct from DFW to JFK, which meant significant difficulties in finding other SC-maximising routes.

DFW-JFK only runs direct once a day. (In old days you could go to one of the other NYC airports but not now due to rule change about co-located airports)

ANC could be a bummer, i wanted it myself since i have never been and i could not get it last time i went there.

No not the 5 minutes... i guess it will be Monday morning AU time when its finished, 12th at 23:59 Canada time (oneworld head office). That is my guess anyway.

I actually got this years DONE3 booked ex-ICN in GBP while the EU rule was in its original state. Lucky break i guess, i think i will try to book a 2010 trip tomorrow.

I had issue with the on-line tool and ICN-NRT-JFK, because JAL only publich fares 6 months or so ahead, means the latest the fares are Nov 09. I can live with that i guess since i will probably just do it and take a USA to Singapore flight seperate given they are reasonably cheap at the moment.

E

Hmm. Tried to book it and after validating the itinerary, sending me to the booking page, and taking all my traveller and payment details, I get this error:

We are not able to confirm your selected flights. Please resubmit your request. (15079)

Am going to try again - very annoying last minute error!

FWIW, my final routing is:
ICN-NRT-JFK-SFO-DFW-LAX-LHR-DXB-LHR-SYD-MEL-AKL-MEL-HKG-DAC-HKG-NRT

<..>
FWIW, my final routing is:
ICN-NRT-JFK-SFO-DFW-LAX-LHR-DXB-LHR-SYD-MEL-AKL-MEL-HKG-DAC-HKG-NRT

I had no issues when i did a dummy one....
But your routeing seems to have a problem, you will need to end in ICN, not NRT. But i guess you probably meant HKG-ICN right ?

I will decide my final routeing tomorrow, still can't figure out what i want to do this time, i want a South American trip but i think i will do that seperatly maybe, just tempted to drop in a nice simple DONE3 with the places i want to visit and a few extras for some miles... i am not sure i really want to go back to MCT again but it is good miles, maybe DBX for something different. And of course avoiding so many LHR's has its advantages. (Less taxes)

E

Oops, indeed I meant ICN not NRT - brain obviously slowing down.

Will try again tomorrow - I have a feeling the problem may be with the billing address verification for Earth Platinum Amex. Apparently it doesn't work so well online, so it is better to use MC. In any case, will see how it goes then.

Out of interest, do you usually find much to do in MCT if it is only a SC run? We have friends in DXB, so it makes more sense for us.

Apologies for the double post...

.. anyone else having trouble completing the booking on the online tool?

Everytime I pull the trigger, I get an error saying 'We cannot confirm your flights'.

Given the timing (and location, amongst other things) is there any way at all to book these tickets by tonight? It seems that if the online tool doesn't complete the transaction, there's no actual way of doing an ex-ICN ticket, seeing as the AA GSA in Seoul require you to be physically present when making a booking.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

I was thinkign that, MCT is interesting to visit and good for a few days, worth checking it out i think, QF009 has writen some trip reports here i think if you can find them, if not i can search.

I would do a night in the desert for the experience, few intereting Mosque's to visit, maybe a boat ride our in the bay, maybe Bahla fort.
Dune safari but you have probably already done that maybe in DBX ?
Otherwise check out the beach.

In a lot of ways i think its a pretty liberal country, a trading port with lots of influences from other ethnic groups. Food is nice, they have this great meat that is cooked really slow in an eath oven. Yum !

Otherwise just turn around and go back ;) only joking but people do that.

Evan, or anyone else booking a *ONE* today through the online tool, can you please let us know whether or not you were able to complete your booking successfully?

It looks like the jig might be up if the online tool refuses to complete the booking...

Will let you know later today when i do it... worst case is you may be able to ATW desk with AA and provided they have queued it you should get the low price. I only paid for my AONE5 last year ex SA after the rule change and price increase end of June. (AONE's are a bit pricy now, DONEx for me now considering i can never get that much F flights in most places, only the main internationals.

On AA online agent 15079 cannot confirm flights (or some such error message) may be due to attempting to book more than 330 (?) days out. Try dummy dates with the right sectors as date/time changes should be free.

Yep, that's not my problem - my itinerary starts in June.

And the final dates aren't for sometime next year? Another possibility is apparently some CX flights won't confirm properly online, if it's possible try substituting CX flights with codeshares or alternate carriers.

That's all I have, I guess calling them up is still an option.
