Round World Airfares Price Frenzy!

As you know, Best Flights are THE Round World air fare specialists and at the moment there is a bit of a frenzy going on with the air fares which we had to tell you about.

I will start with the GOOD NEWS first which is that the Qantas, British Airways & One World Alliance are having a sale to celebrate their round world product being around for 10 years and have reduced all their prices by a whopping 10 PERCENT which means possible savings of up to nearly $2,000 a person! This sale starts from 0800 Hours AEST on the 1st February. Click here for full details.

The following on FT would appear to confirm that this is a worldwide sale, not simply limited to ex-Oz:
Oneworld 10% discount - FlyerTalk Forums

iv recently been contacted by Star Alliance [well their Singapore Airlines rep] who are offering us some exclusive discounted fares for upcoming travel expos...but we dont get the rates till the day before and ticketing must be done inside a week.....so if you are stuck with STAR and cant ticket today feel free to check us out at the AFTA travel expo in Adelaide Feb 6-7-8 or the Holiday Travel Expo in Perth Feb 13-14-15, if you cant make it you can tee it up via email. We're doing expos in Sydney and Melbourne in March and Brisbane in April where we hope to continue to get these exclusive discounts.

we're also in the thrust of teeing up the same discounts with oneworld for the next 2 weeks in addition to their 10% off. for those of you who want to be kept in the loop with these deals you can preregister your interest on the roundabout travel website [launching next week] and that'll qualify you for a min $100 discount on economy and $200 on business on top of the 10% off deals.

and yes, their res staff never find out about their specials that came from their sales rep who send it out to their high tier agents [qantas/ba put you in a 'category' depending on your sales and that determines the deals you get, what hold queue you go in when you call their agency support, how many favors they'll do etc! recently i got a business class qf deal aus-lon rt for $8.4k return plus taxes when their website price was $13k....]

Apparently though the discount will not be applied to those trying to ticket an existing reservation. The reservation has to be created from 1 Feb 09.

Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Is there a trick to getting the discount to appear on the oneworld planner? I've been planning an AONE4 trip over the last few weeks and the price quoted on the oneworld planner hasn't changed even though I would have thought it would now be quoted on the sale prices?

Seeing MelUser's post above prompted me to delete my saved initially and start again from scratch, but this doesn't help either.

So... has anyone booked a discounted *ONE* trip yet using the online planner?

its a very easy way to create a new booking, its as simple as a 10 letter input into a CRS. however, there does have to be availability but F and D class availability is pretty open with most airlines reporting 15-17% downward trends since october.

note that not all OW products are on sale. yes the circle trips, airpasses etc are as well which is good because a circle pacific can be a good way to get to the US and back one way via asia but very importantly the global explorer fare (from $2899 plus tax) is not on sale. the other time the global explore fare is necessary is when using alaskan airlines as they are not part of the continent RTWs....so the 29k, 34k etc mileage based global fares are normally interchanged for the continent fare as the price is the same, however, some different rules and airlines come into play.

re the planner, i have a sneaking suspicion that the rules etc are all based on the afforementioned explorer fare....

The planner/booking tool uses oneworld explorer rules/fares, not those of the global explorer.

Interestingly the Blurb indicates "all oneworld fares" and "across our full range of oneworld products", but no specific reference to xGLOBnn fare are subsequently made in relation to this promotion:
ten years. ten airlines. 10% discount for 10 weeks.

To celebrate our first 10 years, we are pleased to offer a 10% discount for 10 weeks, on all oneworld fares, beginning 1 February 2009. The discount applies to all cabin classes (First, Business and Economy) across our full range of oneworld products ...

they dont count the global explorer fare as a oneworld fare as it has non-oneworld members. quoting an email from BA sales rep 10 days ago where i got the initial inside tip from...note the global customers comment so yes definately from all ports...

Thanks serfty and mat1984 for your replies, but I'm still in the dark here (happy to call it my stupidity for not understanding).

If the oneworld planner uses oneworld explorer rules, and those fares are in the 10% discount, should I be able to see the discounted fares online using the planner or is this promotion only valid for bookings through a travel agent?

Thanks for helping clear this up for me!

AFAIK, the base AONE4 price is $15499, so with the 10% discount is should price out at $13949.10.

if not then it's not applying the discount to the base price (unless the fare has increased 10%).

AFAIK, the base LLONE4 price is $15499, so with the 10% discount is should price out at $13949.10.

errrr ?? what ?
LLONE4 over 10k ? you mean AONE4 ? or did i completely miss something here.

Interesting... (and thanks for that info).

I've been using the planner to put together an ex-CBR trip with the first leg CBR-MEL on an AA code share number as per your previous suggestion to reduce taxes somewhat. When I first took a look late last week (when this thread first started) the price for that trip came to $13,975 plus $396.75 in taxes.

That price is still the same when I check now - ie after the 10% discount should have started.

From the sounds of it then that price already includes the 10% discount - which is odd as that price hasn't changed since about the 29th of Jan right through to now. Although it certainly is cheaper than the last AONE4 I booked (back in June 08) I guess it was wishful thinking hoping for another 10% off that price.

wow that's v interesting. OW r pretty full on with telling us that all bookings had to be created on 1 feb but obviously they couldn't be bothered working over the weekend loading in the fares :)

I did a dummy AONE4 ex MEL using the tool and the base fare used was $13,950.00 ...

... So the discount is now definitely being applied.
