that is appalling NM :(

I also had broken promise after broken promise, as well as the backdated letters.

How cough are they !

I'm intrigued that they feel they can get away with the backdated letters.

If it makes you feel any better, Amex just aren't doing it to you - they're also not responding to deadlines set by the FOS for responses! It's bad when they're not even responding to the body that is supposed to resolve the dispute. I expect that they will submit a letter to the FOS sometime in the future, and they'll backdate it so that it appears that they responded in time as well!

Seriously, this is ridiculous.

I seem to have finally got more or less all the points owing to me overnight!

I haven't done a final check to see that they all reconcile yet, but it's certainly within cooee of what I was expecting.

May be significant that I reluctantly opened an FOS case about a week back, but I'm not sure at this stage since given their backlog that may have not had any effect yet.

Anyway, I am happy to at least not have to be worrying about this anymore and it seems AMEX has, at last, come to the party and delivered.

On another topic, the latest Points Accelerator which I was expecting to post only on my Rewards Maximiser turns out to be posting bonus points on all cards....

My app has been with the FOS for a couple of weeks now, and no response as yet. Will be interested to see how it goes. I have yet to mention AMEX's back dated letters, and not receiving my letter etc.

Got a letter back from AMEX after I asked for a points rec. Basically said "You were not entitled to any points as you have a Corporate card, but you were accidentally enrolled and managed to earn some points. We will let you keep the 50,000pts as a gesture of goodwill."

Fair play.

Still waiting. Another promise broken from executive office of AMEX. The never keep their promises, I don't get it

Given this whole delay with Amex and FOS, if people who have a FOS case and win, will they be allowed to transfer their AMEX points over to the Qantas FF even though the 31 March deadline has passed. Seems Amex is the one dragging their heels on this.

I would not expect to be able to transfer any points paid after 31st March to Qantas. The March 31 deadline was imposed by Qantas and has nothing whatsoever to do with this or any other Amex promotion. There is no reason for Qantas to bend the rules because Amex delayed paying bonus points.

If you are on Qantas Direct, I wonder what will happen then? As all points get automatically transfered, this should happen right?

Direct sweep cards were not eligible for this promotion. Amex could therefore refuse to pay any further points to anyone with a direct sweep card based on the original terms and conditions of the promo.

Ah, but there's a possible difference here - the professional association cards were on MR Ascent, and were eligible for this promotion. For those that wanted to stay on these cards but still get QFF points, there is the new "QANTAS Direct" sweep-style program. So if you had a professional card, amassed points under this promotion, then shifted to QANTAS Direct, and now are paid a backpayment of points under the Promo, I imagine that they WOULD be transferred to QFF.

My promised points reconciliation letter arrived yesterday, just one day shy of one month later than AMEX promised it, and a few days after "final" points were received.

For anyone still reading this thread and interested, my final payout by AMEX's calculations was 1,225,000. Just slightly under my rough estimate, but I suspect near enough that I will not bother going through with a fine tooth comb to see if there is any discrepancy.

Sadly, despite the high number of points by the standards of any kind of normal promo, I didn't feel particularly much happiness or excitement to receive them after this long wait. More just a bit of relief to not have to keep chasing and writing unanswered letters.

Clearly a great promo result though, particularly given this didn't involve too much disturbance to my normal routine and was just about all "everyday" spend just changing to AMEX merchants and never using cash.

I am back to using my AMEX wherever possible and it's certainly still my preferred card by a reasonable margin.

Regarding the suggestion of Amex backdating letters. Whilst this is possible as I would put nothing past Amex now after the despicable way they have treated some members during this promotion, you should also consider the fact that they have problems with their mailroom and have done so for many many years.

A long time ago, probably about 20 years now, I had a huge fight with Amex with a long correspondence with the then VP South Pacific I think it was. His letters (or should I say his secretary's letters) habitually took weeks to get to me after the date of the letter. I had a phone contact in his office and she could never explain to me why the letters took so long to reach me (Sydney to Melbourne mail was overnight in those days!) She, of course, defended the mail room without ever checking why there was a problem.

Given the volume of mail they would handle, I suspect they outsource this now like their call centres etc.

Point of this I guess is that Amex have always had - and always will have - systemic problems because they no longer have any interest in customer service like they once did. This promotion just highlighted it to a lot more people who probably didn't realise how bad they really were!!

Congrats to all the people who fought their corner and got their well earned points. Here's hoping the last few stragglers are successful also.

What are we going to read each day now this thread is about to end :(

.

Well congrats on the points anyway...;)

I wonder if there was anyone who earnt more than 500K who did not have have a bit of a tussle with Amex on getting the points owed???

I'd believe that however on my last phone call with AMEX they claimed to never have received the letter i posted to them, yet after my phonecall and emailed copy of the letter a letter that was dated 5 days earlier and post marked 2 weeks later appeared...

I suspect there may be a process whereby all letters sent out regarding this promotion have to be vetted by a legal dept or senior manager. So the letter is prepared with the current date, then sent for approval before posting. The difference between the "written on" date and the "posted on" date is the delay imposed by the review and approval process.

That may explain the situation and apparent back dating of correspondence but does not excuse the process/delay.

Well i received a letter from the FOS today, they have given Amex til the 21st May to reply back, so we'll see how it goes..

Is anyone else still waiting to hear back?

Maybe so, but 2 weeks delayed is bad for a start and the fact that when i rang there was no record of them ever receiving the letter I posted. Anyway it is in the hands of the FOS now.

When did you lodge with FOS? I am still waiting for word from FOS following allocation of a case number.
