Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If they'd communicated a fair deal instead of inventing carp 'suspensions' and using bullying and delaying tactics, they wouldn't have people going en masse to FOS.

And how does one 'get invited' to these types of deals?l;)

Hello everyone,
Well I've finally got a respose from FOS having lodged a complaint in February. I must say I'm a bit surprised at the action (or rather lack of) from FOS, they haven't investigated the matter and I will have to lodge a further dispute in order for them to investigate it.
In summary my situation was:
* not invited but enrolled in the 5,000 points per 20 transactions and 5,000 points per 5 transactions promotions on 19 September
* Didn't receive all points so wrote to Amex after promotion ended and they responded on 20 February to say that I have been enrolled in the 5,000 points per 10 transactions (MYBONUS) promotion because:
"for a limited period, cardmembers who were not invited could register but their enrolment was limited to the MYBONUS offer. This offer entitled cardmembers to earn 5,000 MR points for every 10 transactions, up until 31 December 2008"

They claimed to have told me this in a letter in October, which i never received and I suspect was never sent as I was credited points under the Myreward promotion for December.

In a further letter received from Amex in April in response to the FOS complaint, Amex claimed that while they understand that I may not have received the October letter, they sent me another letter in February which stated:
"We have amended your MR account to reflect one enrolment. Your bonus points will be calculated from the time of enrolment and be based on the offer you would have received had you been targetted for this promotion. In your case this is 5000 bonus points per 10 transactions"

So it seems that their story has changed from all enrolments who weren't invited only being eligible for the MYBONUS offer to being eligible for the promotion that you would have been eligible for had you been invited.

FOS have asked me to explain why I'm not happy with the response from Amex, even though I did so in the complaint lodged in February.

So wanted to ask if anyone who enrolled in more than one promotion before the cutoff was successful in getting points credited under the MYREWARDS promotion.

I'm 170,000 points short of what I was entitled to, a considerable amount so will be going back to FOS, but I'm sure that Amex are counting on some people giving up chasing their missing points.

Umm- access to this closed 12 months ago...

You shoudl really check the dates on the threads you reply to.

I got all excited when I received an email saying there has been a reply to this thread.

I thought Amex may run this promotion again :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I think we are all pretty much agreed that Amex will never run this promotion again. Even if they don't learn from other mistakes, I'm willing to bet this was a massive "learning experience" for Amex management and everyone has learnt a lot especially the staff who more than likely lost their jobs over it. :)

Hmmm, unless anyone who is still going through the FOS/Amex rigmarole still has anything to add to this thread, I think it might be time to lock this thread.....

Please just make it die... we don't want to remind Amex of this debacle just in case they make teh same mistake twice ;)

Don't close it - you're only a few posts short of getting into the Guiness Book of Records. ;)

Well, concensus amongst admin and the moderators is that it is worthwhile maintaining it open, in case anybody does get finalisation of their case and wants to share the information, which will be particularly beneficial fo those still going through the process (thus the reason for my prompt on the previous page).

Thanks Lindsay,
I guess I was a bit quick off the mark, sorry about that .

For those dealing with FOS, here is something I received today about proposed changes to FOS terms of reference (and their operational changes). I'm not sure if there is anything in it that is material, but perhaps worth a skim:

ASIC has released a new draft of the terms of reference (TOR) under which the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) would operate. In accordance with ASIC RG139, FOS had earlier presented its draft TOR to ASIC for review and consideration. The new draft presents a number of changes which have yet to be approved by the FOS board. As part of the consultation process, ASIC is seeking comments on the new draft from industry stakeholders. In addition, consultation on the Guidelines to the TOR is well underway.

I can't believe that there are still people waiting for getting the boni they are entitled to!

I have FINALLY received all points owing from the MY REWARDS promotion 5/5000.:D
Amex has settled without the case continuing for judgment with the F.O.S.
So my advice to anyone else who is waiting for their points is to persist.
Thanks for all the help & advice from this forum.

Regards to All, M.P.

Congratulations on getting the points. About time AMEX do the right thing. How many points did you get?

Just wonder if there are any "interest" given they give it to you so late :p

I also wonder if there are any way to get "compensation" due to the delay of award of points for J/F travel and people having to fork out cash for tickets .....

Maybe I just asked too many questions. I think people are just too exhausted fighting Amex. Hehe.

Well, Enjoy your points!
