Re: 10000 points per day, and 100 Transactions per week

There is no mention (in my posts) to the poor people who lost points for no reason...

I reply to people making 100/200 transactions per week 400/800 per month... Well, those are going to have a hard time to collect their points, unless they can demonstrate they usually make that many transactions.

To me there will be at least two groups of people who will have trouble in 8 weeks time.

1) Those who normally make around XX transaction per month, and now make 100s per month. If they dont have at least 1 new shop per every 10 extra transactions they make, then Amex may Cap them.

2) Those who normally make 100s of transactions per month on their card, but are using a Corporate Card. The T&C have always excluded Corpotare Card members. Some people in that group post messages threatening to sue or cancel their cards if they don't get their million points. They were never eligible for the Promo to start with .

People who are not using a corporate/business card, and usually spend millions on their cards, and usually make 100s of transactions, they will for sure make lots of points (millions hmmm ... duno)

I think I'll start obeying the no feeding signs after this.. but...

why do you think if they have 100/200 per week they are going to be in trouble?? what's your basis for this? as long as they are using it for legitimate purchases there is no problem. There is no $$ limit on how much to spend.

on your group 1. The whole idea is to use you card more! where is this one shop in 10 garbage coming from???

Group 2. Who cares what card they use! doesn't matter what card they end up spending on.

So please stop posting baseless information.

(ok I'll go and put the food away now....)

Mostly. Except that one called JohnK
I mainly hear good things about JohnK. But then my opinion and judgement could be a little clouded. ;)

I haven't been to this website for quite some time but got very excited when I read this thread. Tried to sign up but got this message:

"We apologise, this Bonus offer has now ended. Keep an eye out for our forthcoming promotional bonuses and remember, you can register for the bonus as soon as you get our notification, there is no need to wait until the bonus starts. That way, you will automatically earn bonus points as soon as the promotion starts!"

Any suggestions?

Joc,

At risk of sounding rude and I don't mean to be. I suggest you either read through the thread (and quickly filter the 80% waffle) or accept that it is now closed to new enrollments.

ps please obey the don't feed the troll signs.

I was non targetted, and signed up for all three. I was told they are putting me on the 10T/5K. When I called them, I was told it will be capped, but that was just before the new T&Cs came out, so hopefully will work out.

auriga,

Whilst what you are saying is correct it has been stated here many times that that the promotion is now closed to new signups :!:

Yes..but Auriga stated that they had signed up for all three.....so therefore Auriga got in before it closed....and is not a new sign-up.

straitman, I read auriga's post exactly the same way that lovetravellingoz did and see nothing wrong with the comment?

Still happily posting transactions over the weekend and still POC-less. But then again, I don't fear it at all.

Anyway...it is now about 4 weeks since most first became aware of the promotion...and about 3+ since Amex became aware that they erred and began changing things.

However it would seem that apart from a small number (File 51...where it may have been contact being replied to before the new T&C was decided upon) that most of the pre_Sep 20 group have not been contacted by Amex in anyway since registration......apart from the very indirect posting of amended T&C on the website.

Many, if not most, respondents to this promotion would most likely not read this forum, or other forums, and so they would be just going on their original postcard (or what was told to them by family or a mate who had received the postcard).

So it would seem that the amended T&C's for the pre_Sep 20 group will indeed stand.

For Cardmembers who enrolled in the Promotion prior to 20 September, the original bonus points offer remains unchanged and there is no limit to the amount of bonus points you can earn during the Promotion period as long as your transactions are for legitimate everyday spend*. This was communicated to these Cardmembers via our call centre teams or the enrolment website page.

Though those in more than one bonus it would seem are all being restricted back to one as per the amended T&C.......with POCing most like being evidence of that.

No, only one registration is permitted per eligible Cardmember.

American Express will be tracking instances of multiple enrolments and for those cases identified your Membership Rewards account will be amended to reflect one enrolment.

Mea Culpa .. I did register for two rewards programs ...and I assume that's the reason I have been poc'd.
Amex may be seeking to revamp their marketing with the qff deal out of the equation.
I will be seeking to have them justify my continuing membership when/if they bring out the new goodies/cards/deals.
Which "reward program " I have ended up in ( without consultation or advice) will be quite relevant in these negotiations... :D

Re: 10000 points per day, and 100 Transactions per week

Well, are you travelling right now?

That's irrelevant - I was just pointing out that a couple of hundred transactions a month is possible (since you doubted it was as part of normal spend), and that Amex is well aware of our previous spending history.

An increase to 200 or 400 transactions per month can not be justified unless you used to make around X00 transactions before the promo as well.

As I have done. And have others.

I think that AMEX will want to see you using your card in a bunch of new shops (not just one or two). Probably 1 new shop for every 10 new transactions you make.

You have no idea what Amex does/doesn't want.

I agree that Amex will check your previous months to see if you used to make that many transactions. IF NOT then they will only accept your transactions if they fit within the SPIRIT of the promotion. Otherwise they will offer you a 10,000 points per month CAP in GOOD WILL.

At that point is up to you to get a lawyer

FWIW I have 26 transactions this month to date (that have posted to the MR site), with an average value of ~$220). There are no transactions under $10, and three under $20. There is nothing unusual about my spending patterns, and as far as I can tell, I'm probably the type of customer that Amex should be valuing (no $3 coffees on my card earning 1000 MR points)

Auriga,

Apologies as I got a completely incorrect message from your post.

I was obviously over tired as that was one of several things I misread last night :!:

Here I muse.. perhaps (one of) the reason(s) that I haven't been POCked is that I rang up to cancel the second promo and my surname is at the end of the alphabet.

At least some of us now have a second promo that we can piggy-back legally onto this promo (see the other promo thread) - and they certainly tightened up the T & C's on that one .

Oh, there ar so many one-liners available straitman - but I won't feed my inner troll

Hi Lindsay,

My surname is close to the start of the alphabet (B) and I have kept all bonus points so far, but like you I phoned and cancelled the second promo straight away.

I phoned again today to confirm what is going on and the CSA was most helpful in explaining that points will take 8-10 weeks to credit and I am indeed in the 5000/5t promo and uncapped.

ejb

ps. I trust this will not be considered as feeding the troll as I don't wish to be known as a troll feeder.

Well it may be the W...for I am an M.;)

But I think that the reason that you have not been POCked is not the cancelling.

For I registered for all 3 on the 17th...and then on finding my 5000 for 5 postcard at home waiting for me I rang on the 18th to ensure that I was enrolled in my postcarded offer.

I was informed that the other two would be cancelled.

After points starting posting...and obviously from all three I again rang and was advised that yes that had my correct one...and that they yes would cancel the other two.

So I suspect that they could not actually alter people enrolments till some software fix was prepared....and that this is what POCking does. It puts people in the one enrollment if in multiples, and if only in one, but the wrong one it swaps you.

I think that the inability to cancel, or correct, enrollments was one of the reasons why they stopped awarding bonus points....that plus the bill splitting which was going on.

I strongly suspect that you only get the POC notation if they actually reverse points out. While I did enrol in two (the first one here, then the one in my postcard), I never actually got any points, hence the lack of POC notation. I am sure they would have unenrolled me in the non-postcard promo!

I enrolled in all 3 promotions but according to Amex I am enrolled in the 'MYBONUS' promotion. No big deal as I cannot find the original postcard from Amex. I assume I received one but cannot be certain as what may look like junk mail occasionally goes missing at home.

Would be interesting to find out the criteria Amex used to determine a cardholders eligibility for a promotion as it appears some people with very high monthly transactions are enrolled in the 'MYREWARD' promotion.

I do not consider myself a high volume user with usually 10-20 transactions per month and I would still be happy if I could get 10,000 bonus MR points each month for the next 3 months. I finished September with 19 transactions after enrolling in the promotion and I only have 3 transactions so far this month so need to get a move on.

Not sure how they could make a notation without adjusting the points balance - the POC note has been linked to only adjustments that we know of.
