Posted two pages back - Yes.

But the member said he would expect the second set of points be retracted at a later date.

I have been on this forum for years and received all the emails but have never posted before. This thread is by far the hardest one to keep updatd on.

Enjoy all the points everyone.

Yes QF may be impacted - but only if people send points to QF and that then generates revenue for QF. Let's just try and get this clear for once - the existence of CC generated FF points is NOT a bad thing for QF. They can control availability of seats thus keeping control of costs, but they get paid by the CC companies when the points are earned.

This is why the CC driven FF program is supposedly worth A$2billion.

In any case this may not be such a massive influx of points - not all points go to QF and not all members were targetted. This may be a big thread on AFF but this is not a big deal for the world at large.

Next the economics - I think this is a marketing drive by Amex - to change our behaviour to get us used to using the cards more and to get us to steer towards Amex stores rather than non-amex stores. Whatever this costs them in the short run should be offset in the long run. This is no different than IBM/Lenovo sponsoring Libby Trickett - except this is actually effective ;)

Unfortunately I have been trying since the week end to take advantage of this offer only to see this message :
We're sorry...

This offer has been temporarily suspended due to operational issues. Please try again later.

Bugger:confused:

I'm also trying to sign up and get the same error message.

When I phoned Amex rewards just now, I was told that the link will be up and running within the next few days. They also can't sign anybody up over the phone as they can't access it on their system either, so guess we'll have to wait.

Just called AMEX.

Unable to sign up due to "operational issues". Unknown as to when this will be resolved.

Looks like they're pulling the plug for new enrolments for the bonus.

THAT is the key and needs to be remembered

Good point, and I agree completely. However for me it hasn't made me use my AMEX any more than I normally would, as whenever possible I will always use my AMEX anyway as 1.5 points to $1.

What it has done however, is changed my thinking in terms of "well, if they don't accept it ..... cya later, for now"

I feel like an a$$ sometimes for just walking to the sales counter and flashing my Amex and saying "Do you accept Amex?" and then they would say No and I walk off. I'm really no snob ok ;)

After the initial "grand plans" to split payments and the dreams of multiple trips RTW in F I have now calmed down.

Just using normal spending habits I should get 5 transactions per day without a problem so I will be more than happy with the bonus points (even if it is capped, 40000 points for nothing is still great)

However this has increased the places I look at using my Amex so in that way I think Amex have done a great job with this promotion.

I still have not yet left a store due to not taking Amex but I have been asking everywhere and found a few new places to use the card.

i reckon you can say "sorry i forgot to bring cash, only have an amex card.."

that's what i plan to do today if the butcher doesn't take amex .. (i can just go to woolworths etc)

812+ responses, over 82 pages...

I just had to add in another post :)

Nice opt-in deal

I am only on page 21 - slightly easier to follow when multiple posts per hour/minute.

Page 21 for me too; I find 40 p/p strikes a good balance betwixt page load times/size when using tabbed FireFox browsing.

It will not make me use my Amex anymore than I am using right now as there is a limit on how much one can spend. Well there is for me anyway.

I mainly use Amex, and have walked away many times where not accepted, and will only use Mastercard or Visa if there is absolutely no alternative. I had to use Mastercard a few weeks ago to prepay a room in Singapore because of the F1 Grand Prix. I booked through HotelClub and they accepted Amex but you need to pay the hotel the balance and this hotel wanted me to prepay but only accepted Mastercard and Visa.

I must be the odd one out who selected 40 posts per page...
I find 20 posts per page much easier to tolerate. Never though about going to 40 posts per page.

I am still stuck on 3 Amex transactions since the start of this promotion so I am anxiously waiting for yesterdays transactions to hit the account....

While not going crazy with my Amex, I am finding the promotion is encouraging me to use it more than I would have otherwise. For example, today my son called and asked me to transfer some money into his bank account so he could buy credit for his mobile. I suggest I that rather than transfer the money and then he go and buy the credit that I just do it on-line for him using my Amex card. So another $40 transaction on the Amex that normally would not have been there. I think this is the exact behaviour Amex were hoping to generate.
