Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF485 SYD-MEL.

On this flight there were two staff travellers and the CSM took meal selections from both before takeoff.

The staff travellers were severed last, but were still given their first preference.

Luckily I’d selected row one so my choice was still available. Those in row two and three were not so lucky.

Options (for those fortunate enough to have a choice) were a spinach and feta pastry with mango chutney with carrots and spicy tomato or a ploughman’s board.

I like spicy food and the tomato had a real kick.

Interesting, every time I've sat next to someone on staff travel (both deadheading and not in uniform), on a 737, the FA has always told them they will come back once all other pax have been served.

That’s been my experience too.

When I saw it happen I assumed they were CL or WP1.

But the guy behind me was addressed in such a way it was clear he was staff.

Plus being in 1C, I could clearly hear the CSM tell the other FA when he returned to the galley that he’d taken staff orders so they didn’t miss out.

That's so shoddy, I'd be inclined to complain. I feel like it's getting more common on Qantas.

Earlier this year I was on holiday with other Australian-based friends in Mexico, and we were talking about which routes and airlines we were taking to get back to our respective homes. When I mentioned we were connecting through DFW to take the QF nonstop from there (in PE upgrading to J), my friend said he'd sworn off Qantas after far too many experiences in paid business class where the FAs fawned over passengers who were clearly on staff travel at the expense of the paying passenger.

In that conversation I defended Qantas and said that hadn't typically been my experience, only for exactly that to happen on the long DFW-SYD flight. The person across from me on the aisle was clearly current or former staff, and had 10x the attention lavished on them of anyone else in the cabin. That would not necessarily have been such a problem if we were all getting good service, but the crew was forgetting things left and right (never offered bread, almost impossible to get a drink refil) all while spending huge amounts of time looking after their colleague. Absolutely maddening.

I should have complained at the time (and about the shoddy catering for such a long premium cabin flight) but in all the work backlog and post-holiday chaos I just couldn't be bothered, which I regret now.

As a P1, I've never had the "pre-order" offer, only told meal choices when the trolley was brought out.
I've sat next to a CL once and he wasn't asked for meal preference before takeoff (I was WP at the time).
Maybe other P1/CLs have before? I didn't think that was a thing on a 737.

I haven't seen 'pre-orders' taken recently (possibly a long time ago). The whole (J) cabin was treated equally with the only differentiator being going down the aisle and seating for that is strongly influenced by status.

And staff travel treatment appears the same to how I've seen it. I see flight attendants pop down just a tray and say they'll be back with what's left.

You need to complain. If Qantas don't have feedback about such situations they cannot take remediation.

QF1050 MEL-BME. 0830 departure.

Option one was sausages, fried egg and zucchini frittatas.

Option 2 “Neil’s interpretation of croque monsieur”.

Good to see the CSM getting the sponsor’s name into the service. 🙄

You can tell it’s Neil’s interpretation because of the leaves. 🤣

Both came with fruit, a cheese and bacon scroll and sourdough for those who are trying to increase their carb intake.

QF1981 (op QantasLink) BNE-NTL dep 0800 a/c E90

Got on the way late thanks to a delay due to a minor broken part. FAs had already done the safety demo and we had pushed back, then we had to go back to gate to replace the part. SOP meant that the FAs had to do the safety demo all over again!

Only one option on offer: scrambled eggs, bacon and what was described as ratatouille, which was basically capsicum, tomato and onions cooked down in passata. Also on the side was a Ruby Roys honey and cinnamon Greek yoghurt.

Strangely no bakery offered. Not sure if it's a rushed service thing, a forgot to serve (forgot to warm up) thing or other. I'm being mindful of carbs and sugar, so I didn't miss the bread and didn't tuck into the yoghurt .

The hot dish was fine. Kind of basically what was available in the lounge (except the ratatouille instead of baked beans). Maybe a bit salty.

No nonsense service from the crew, though the one serving the back / Y was a bit more chipper than her colleague at the front.

QF937 BNE-PER Saturday 27 June 738 VH-VZA "Port Augusta"
sched dep 1325 actual pushback 1335 takeoff 1344 (19L)

Back home after a great Noosa break, even if the weather wasn't as good as usual.
Exemplary service from CSM Julia and FA Rachel.

Pre dinner drink of Starwood whisky offered after a slight delay for outbound turbulence (though nothing like last month when it carried on until we were past Moree); this continues to be superior to the once sole whisky offering of Chivas (one must appreciate the small amount of post covid improvements when we can!). MrsDrJ had the Lois Lane sparkling, she approved of this. Usual Santos nuts on the side.

IMG_6320.jpeg
Had the roast chicken and veggies, better than expected with the chicken being very moist, and the side salad of with prosciutto and parmesan was a good accompaniment. MrsDrJ had the same so cannot comment on the other option which was a beef pasta of some sort.

After some pedestrian reds on the last few flights, very happy to have Voyager Modern Cabernet 2022 with this meal. This is a much visited Margs winery for both of us, and definitely warranted another glass.

IMG_6322.jpeg
The usual Maggie's ice cream for dessert, but joined this time by the Lillypilly Noble Harvest dessert wine, hadn't had this one before but was very good, not being overly sweet.

Long but very comfortable flight, Julia and her crew's attentive service continuing throughout. Would go so far as to name this is my best post covid narrowbody flight to date, well done!
