Poor QF BKK J Flights

I am quoting their website. As such it is 150 degrees.

I have travelled in J on that airline's B773s. I did not measure the angle but it was the typical design where the most 'remote' bit of the seat extender ('bed') sloped a bit, but not dramatically so. Any angle was insufficient to interrupt a peaceful (part) night's sleep.

The website may therefore be incorrect.

Here is a video (judge for yourself):

The stats on the PR website quote 150 degrees. I will use that as my official source of information until proved otherwise.

the PAL website says this:The Business class cabin of B777-300ER and select newly-refurbished B747-400 is equipped with individual “goose neck” reading lights, laptop charging port and USB port for passengers to listen to their personal mp3 collection or view photos and PDF files. The new seat is adjustable to a variety of positions at the option of the passenger, including a full flat recline with a 15 degree angle (Chaiselongue position). It is outfitted with a 15.4in seatback mounted and 10.6in in-arm touch-screen personal television.that mentions a 15 degree angle. if that has later been incorrectly transcribed as a 150 degree recline elsewhere then that is an error (I can't find the degrees of recline stated as 150... is there a link?)

It was mentioned in their PR put out May last year about the equipment change for Australian flights:

Fully adjustable seats at Mabuhay Class are by Recaro, with 20-inch seat width, 78-inch seat pitch and a lie-flat reclining position up to 150 degrees. Fiesta seating is an industry–leading 18.5 inches wide, with 33-34-inch pitch.

here is a picture of the seat: Philippine Airlines upgrades all Aussie flights to Boeing 777 - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

the recline is clearly more than 150 degrees. someone seems to have made an error transcribing a 15 degree angle into a 150 degree recline.

a 150 degree recline would put it just a little bit more that a transitional business class recliner seat.

(apologies again for the OT)

I'm no maths genius but the pic in that article looks pretty much like it could be closer to 150 degrees than 180 degrees from the head to the feet ie. it's definitely a steep slope

Its certainly not 180. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think its the same or a take on LH's a380/748 seats?

Its a Recaro Comfort Line 6510 as seen on LH, MH and others, and reclines to an angle of 150 degrees as measured from the vertical axis to the head pad position. It's a 2009 product now superseded.

Further to the OP's J report, I flew QF23/24 in Y again in the last few weeks, the second time since the 'enhanced' 're-timing'.

Outbound MEL-SYD-BKK, had to book an airport hotel due to the earlier departure now required out of MEL. Took the latest flight that Qantas would allow booking for that connection, but it was too tight. Bus between terminals in SYD, disgraceful log-jam at SYD immigration and then again at security, only 5 minutes in QP, and then to top it off pax were bussed to the plane ! I dont think I have ever encountered that in SYD before, in 20 years of flying. Departure was about an hour late, but caught most of it up by the time we reached BKK.

The crew were good, but it didn't wipe the feeling of an experience more akin to LCC flying.

Coming back I hit the non-functional IFE VOD reported above. Cabin crew said about 10 seats were known to have problems before takeoff. Yet checkin agent had put me in one of these seats when I asked for an empty seat next to me. Is it too much to expect that the checkin system might show broken seats ? After several failed reboots, one helpful crew member negotiated some pax movements in the back to finally find me a functional VOD well into the flight.

Pasta and chicken meal was actually nice, but by the middle of the night I had a mild stomach ache. Given the miserable fare that passes for QFi cold breakfast in Y I was not too concerned to miss it.

Load factors seemed much higher than back in April, when there were many more empty seats. Seemingly more Thai pax than I have ever seen before on QF. Looked like Thai tour groups, who generally fly with the cheapest carriers, so perhaps QF is marketing to them to fill seats.

I did QF23 in J last month and we also had the bus to a remote stand so maybe there's a trend.
The flight was otherwise unremarkable, several niggles, but nothing worth making an issue of.

It seems so.Late September we parked at the cargo terminal on QF24 on arrival from BKK.

I guess it is peak time & clearly there are gate shortages then...

I see loads of other airlines doing this at Syd as well but I've only ever had this myself on QF for a Jetconnect flight.

How did priority boarding work with buses - sometimes it can be better! (E.g Etihad love the bus system)

Its a wonder why the don't have a few iPads on board loaded with few movies for when these faulty IFE happen on older aircraft.

On RJ the first bus either way was for J pax.
QF deplaning it is fit as many in a bus as you can to see if we can get a 330 load of pax in 2 busses.

Had the bus once only, also arriving in SYD on a Jetconnect flight, but the airport was in chaos due to fog that morning, with aircraft all over the place.

This is a very sensible suggestion - perhaps someone could suggest it to red roo?

In the last three months we have done both QF19 and QF23. Both were bus to the remote stands near the cargo terminal.

QF19 was over an hour late because they could not find the pilot. (stuck in traffic…)

Gate shortages ?????? It has a real LCC feel to start your flight.

Crew were great on QF23, packed flight.

The spare iPads is a very good idea. Trouble is people with the outdated IFE (working)would ask for them also.
