Poor QF BKK J Flights

I did QF23 in J last month and we also had the bus to a remote stand so maybe there's a trend.
The flight was otherwise unremarkable, several niggles, but nothing worth making an issue of.
I have had a stand off bay arriving into BKK with Malaysia airlines a few times now.

Undesirable but not the end of the world either....

Did QF23 today - no standoff bays at either end - but loads of construction happening at SYD gates which may explain all the VA, Air Niguini & JetConnect planes consigned to the standoff bin!!

Lovely flight, well looked after, flight was very full - no doubt why they are upgrading to a 747 in the next few weeks.

The IFE and the seats on the A330 are clearly under industry standard now and I note that there is a plan to replace them, but this should have been in train long before now.

Coming into this thread late I know, but wouldn't say the A330 seats are under industry standard, what ever that really means.

Many airlines offer a product similar or worse than Qantas does on comparable legs. I guess the issue is in this part of the world we tend to get spoilt more so than say Europe, Americal or Africa.

Now on this route in particular what else is there? Yes Thai with their 747's, which have a seat similar to Skybed MKI and similar IFE. Some days they even operate 747's that have a sit-up seat. Then there is Emirates with their 777. Maybe a bit better, but not by much.

Perhaps I am easily satisfied but reading this thread I am getting the impression that many here are being a little precious....

  1. IFE should work, but there are times when it just doesn't. If you fly often enough it will happen to you often. e.g. Emirates en-route BNE - AKL in J last week. Personally speaking I rarely if ever use it as it rarely appeals. Anyway in this day and age just load up your iPad & iPod and BYO on demand, and you know it works.....
  2. Bussing in at Sydney - Get used to it people, it happens everywhere else in the world and its happening in Sydney regularly, also occasionally in BNE too. Mind you I think in BNE I'd prefer the bus rather than the endless walk from the Emirates A380 gate to Immigration..... :)
  3. I do not get the constant anti-QF thing that goes on here. I love the QF on board service and I will happily say that its among the world's best (internationally). Have sampled SQ, CX, MH, EK etc. Would put QF consistently ahead of all. EK does come a very close second, and SQ on their day can beat all but I've found the service quality inconsistent.

I'm with you - one thing I've learnt from a long time here is that a majority of people on here are actually like you as well - but we don't need to post as much as the others so you don't get that feeling.

I'm not saying the others are whining and petty at all - but lots of people have different buttons and get annoyed by much much smaller things than I would for example when flying :)

But take me into a restaurant and I would be really picky on a million small things other people wouldn't even notice. So horses for courses I guess but my main message is that a majority of people on here are not represented by the smaller amount who are more... Vocal. (In my opinion)

Glad to hear its not just me. :) I think the thing that many lose sight of is that at the end of the day, its just public transport. Sure depending on class of travel one can be paying a lot of money for it and in the main we're dealing with private enterprises on a buyer - seller arrangement, but its still public transport.

I do appreciate that IFE not working can be a PITA but those of us who fly regularly know that this sort of thing happens regularly. Buy a book, get an iPod and get over it..... :D I think one of the other posters said that the IFE fault could have been as such that it may have required the aircraft sent to the hanger to repair. Given the cost of having an aircraft off the line I can imagine why that did not happen and the fault left until the next scheduled hanger visit. In any event whenever I look around the F & J cabins most of us have gone down the BYO IFE route......
