I am of to Heathrow on Emirates arriving terminal 3 and my wife is arriving on BA terminal 5 around 6 hours later. How easy is it to move from terminal 3 to terminal 5 with your luggage and would I be able just to wait there until the BA flight arrives to meet her??
Thanks for any responses.

The transfer is relatively easy, just follow signs for the Heathrow Express, it is free between T3 and T5. There is an Emirates arrivals lounge at T3 if you are in J or F but I believe it does not have showers, and is more of a stopping point for their chauffeur service.

There will be bars and cafes at T5 but I suspect it won't be much fun for several hours.

if you have Priority Pass the AC arrivals lounge at T3 is OK.

Welcome to AFF :D

You will both need to go through immigration and customs.

The good news is that connecting between terminals 1, 2, 3 and 5 is relatively simple and free. I believe luggage trolleys are free of charge as well.

Best options is for you to take a train and meet landside at T5 arrivals, mind you I am not sure what you would do for 5 hours waiting.

Heathrow: Travel between terminals

A friend a work gave me an Oyster Card with credit on it so I think I can somehow use that to get to Terminal 5, is there a place where I can just plant myself at arrivals at terminal 5??

The easiest way is to take the heathrow express as it is free. The heathrow express station is under t5 so if you take the lift should be no problem getting to t5 arrivals. In terms of planting yourself there, there are plenty of seats, but 5 hours is a long wait.

I don't believe the Oyster card works with the Heathrow Express, but that does not matter because between T3 and T5 the service is free. Like most airport terminals LHR T5 is busy, but there are seats around the landside area, and coffee shops and also a bar.

Correct it doesn't work, but like you said it isn't required..

Thanks guys looks like she will find me propped up in the bar then

The Five Tuns pub is on the departure level before security, otherwise down at the arrivals level there is a Costa Coffee place.

Its very easy & free to transfer but pretty boring as others have said.

As you have an oyster though, why not drop your bags at left luggage & get the tube into the city ? Its about 50mins each way, very frequent, so you'd have maybe 3 hours in central London

Costa Coffee, on the Arrivals level near the lifts.

As long as you have an oyster the trip between T3 and T5 is free on the tube. But also the Heathrow express will be free for that journey.

I took it in April. The signage can be a bit confusing, but yes the trip is free. There are physical barriers preventing luggage trolleys from going onto the train and platforms, but they are free and plentiful.

There are also buses.

T5 landside is a bit of a wilderness compared to the shopping mall airside, but yes, there are food and drink options and a few information type places to look at. Or grab a cup of coffee and a sanger, wander outside to find a place to watch the planes take off and land.

Hi,

I know it adds a bit of extra expense, but assuming you are staying in London, take the train or tube to London, book in, and then when it is time, go back to Heathrow. That way, you have not been bored out of your brain waiting, and two people with only one persons luggage is a lot easier to handle than two lots. Also you have done the trail blazing and can show your wife that you know the place (London) like the back of your hand getting to your hotel in record time.
