[Confirmed Fixed - Maybe Not!] No LHR T5 Galleries access for QP before BA/QF flights

I still maintain this is all a rug pull by BA, though BAEC members are probably lapping it all up without the QP "blaggers" inside their valuable lounges.

There may be a few who get ants in their pants about it, but I don't think the vast majority would even know, let alone care about QP members having paid access to BA lounges. It does seem like a rug pull by BA.

I seem to recall a member saying they had contacted the ACCC (was it in late November??) and not long after that Red Roo popped up for the first time on this issue...A) Did the ACCC respond to that communication? andB) Whether yes or no, maybe another email to the ACCC might again get some reaction or update out of QF as little else seems to including fob offs to Parl. Committees???

The "extra information" you've provided is, in fact, no new information at all.

Exactly!!! The game is to tell people what you want them to hear, not what they want to know. Or even worse commercial in confidence

Outside of AFF I am not so sure there is much merit to this issue. I think 90% of QP members outside AFF wouldn't even know about not having Lounge access at a connecting terminal at LHR.

I would hazard you are thinking incorrectly ... most regulars on AFF would be unaffected by this since:

  • They are already of at least Sapphire Status on oneworld, or
  • They are flying in Business/Club/First Class or
  • They fly *A or *S

Many obtain Qantas Club membership for that "big trip" and specifically book BA/AA/QF to get the best advantage of it.

Perhaps not, but they will find out when they try to access the Galleries Lounges at Terminal 5 when transferring to a BA flight or QF codeshare and have to be turned away !!!!

QANTAS PLEASE ADVISE YOUR QANTAS CLUB MEMBERS ON THIS ISSUE ASAP.

I would hazard a guess, though, that there are folk outside AFF (possibly resident outside Australia!), who have bought the memberships so that they can access those very lounges.

Or they just wanted the 40000 points!

More surprised how and who tabled the question about T5 access. T3 access perhaps (because the JSA specifically relates to the Kangaroo-related routes), but T5 is only plying on the BA connection network

Mostly, but not 100% true.

Pertinent to Australia and QF, the "QF30 substitution service" BA will fly LHR-HKG (BA21) operates from T5.

BD

Very good point. I have just checked my QF/BA flight LHR to BKK in April but BA9 is still going from T3. Would actually prefer T5 as that would save me the change of terminal and a nicer lounge in T5

Maybe negotiations about lounge access for these services is what triggered BA to realise they were letting the unwashed Qantas club members in when their agreement only covered T3, terraces and exec lounges. Do recall that their rejection of Qantas club members started about the same time as Qantas announced they were pulling out of BKK/HKG-LHR.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to come back and let you all know that we are still working T5 access. I know that a result is not happening as fast as we would all like but I can guarantee you that despite the delay it is a priority for Qantas and I will update you as soon as I have news.

Because this is a hot topic on the forum I am getting updates on this every few days, so you all will hear as soon as I do.

Cheers,
Red Roo

Red roo,

Just wondering if there is any update on this issue yet, and if not do you have any idea when a decision will be made. Thank you.

When on earth are we going to hear anything about this!!!! Just tell us one way or the other QF!!

It is bizarre that 2 airlines who are in bed with each other to the extent that QF/BA are can't seem to come to some agreement on this...unless of course they already have and the status quo stands?

Actually they are only in bed together on the Kangaroo route, where lounge access is not an issue. On other routes they are codeshare and OneWorld partners, clearly Qantas Club is not a codehsare nor a OneWorld right, meaning of course for Qantas to offer acess to their customers (and that is what Qantas Club Membership is) when flying BA they need to pay and BA needs to be co-operative hence this whole issue and debate.

You're only stating what is already obvious.

The point is that QC members were accessing Galleries up until October...presumably QF was paying for that entrance from the time Galleries came into being at T5 until then. So my surprise is that these friendly airlines (and I think the JSA is an exceptionally cosy arrangement) haven't come to some agreement over this by now...when we were led to believe weeks ago by a QF rep that discussions were in their very final stages.

easy explanation for this... it is simply not safe~~ to continue or conclude the negotiations. we know full well qantas does not proceed unless it is absolutely safe to do so.

~~ not safe for qantas' bank account that is

I would imagine the talks aren’t well received by BA, they’re the ones who think they can own the whole alliance, buy out partners and basically do what they like. I’d imagine the Qantas Club department at Qantas are trying their best and BA are just being their usual selves.

you are very generous to qantas... I'm not sure on what basis though! we know there are several things qantas have NOT done for us... or are looking into but can't answer or action... why would we think it is BAs fault here when qantas have such a bad track record with everything else?
