I have been at BNE airport for just over an hour and the Qantas business lounge is chaotic. There are delays everywhere. Apparently this had been happening all afternoon. Is it weather related? I know one of the BNE-MEL flights has come in from BME and it requires attention from the engineers.

For a change my flight was on time and I had a huge chuckle on my face at all the delays until I looked at the board and now my flight is delayed by ~50 minutes as well. :(

Had an interesting announcement a few minutes ago that one of the delayed BNE-MEL flights is oversold and they are asking for volunteers to travel on the later service with a seat in business class.

I'm stuck in SYD got moved off the 2045 flight to 1830, this flight has now been delayed until 1930 operating crew still to arrive. Lost 4C on a 738 to get 6D on a 734. Come up to the J lounge when you arrive if QF743 is still on the boards.

Apparently most of the dealys are due to bad weather in SYD and they are down to 1 runway.

Stupid me had some printing to do for my trip tomorrow and did not bother asking for an earlier BNE-MEL flight when I got to BNE airport early. Not that Qantas would have obliged anyway. :p

At this stage it looks like a ~70 minute delays with an arrival into SYD at ~22:00 instead of 20:50.

Apologies to anyone who is travelling today....

I didn't even have to ask to be moved. J lounge desk agent just told me my flight was delayed. Tapped the keyboard for a bit, looked a bit harder and then asked if I'd like to move to the 1830 flight. Me: "Yeah, if that's possible" [emoticon for innocent face] [on the inside :D woohoo!!!!]. Not so much woohoo now that it is estimated at 1950.

I'm not sure about the weather thing either. Cousin at Westmead way said they had hail, but it was clear as when I walked from Mascot to the airport at 1630-ish. Clear as in town as well. I'd said it is more than just SYD weather. My aircraft was at the gate 20 minutes late but the crew were nowhere to be seen. The crew getting off my aircraft were then on a flight that was delayed until 1950 according to the display. What's the bet that the crew getting off their aircraft are going to operate my flight?

Oh and just heard the remaining 4 flights to MEL tonight are cancelled. And they are not rebooking anything for the morning. As they are looking for alternative aircraft in the morning. maybe an A380?

Not good news.

Another announcement here mentioning delays are due to MEL yesterday and SYD reduced to 1 runway today.

The last MEL flight looks to be quite late and still another half an hour for me before I can board. Going to the VA Lounge to check out if they are having the same delays....

wondering if I should try to get back on my original flight?

VA website says they are on time for BNE-SYD???? Oops 1935 flight is 30 minutes late.

My flight is flashing on the board but no announcement. Time to walk, I think....

Husband flew this afternoon Adelaide - Sydney with Virgin (re-arranged because of the strike) and he arrived perfectly on time.

Also, he was located in Row three, heaps of room and got a free meal (booked as discount economy!)

The delays are not strike related, so it makes it a bit hard to avoid with the knock on effects and tunnel vision...

Apparently most of the are due to bad weather in SYD and they are down to 1 runway.

...

I can confirm both...as I was meant fly out at 6.30 PM on Weds SYD-MEL with Jetstar...and left at about 2PM Thursday on a QF A380..

The first was cancelled due the rain in Melbourne.

Backlog caused by that with very busy school holiday bookings not allowing early catch up.

On the A380 the pilot announced that it's departure was caused by high winds in Sydney with the airport closing all bar one runway.

I hope it's sorted out by tomorrow afternoon.

Maybe I should change from QF539 to 537 for a bit of buffer. The Mrs would have some kind of seizure if I don't make it back to WGA tomorrow night.

How is inferring the strikes and the delays are related stating the facts?

This is what I said. Any inference the two are related are yours.

Perhaps if he had been flying to/from MEL or SYD might have been more relevant?

He flew to Sydney. Adelaide is having gale force winds too, we just dont get the airplay when the same thing is happening in Melbourne and Sydney.
