New cringeworthy QF John Travolta safety video

Possibly, but The Team is mentioned far too many times for my liking. It just feels to me like it's an attempt to 'Virgin-ise' QF to be 'hip and cool' whilst failing miserably :)

Yes I agree "team" is used too often...

Is it just me or does he pronounce Qwantas too American-like? Wouldn’t have been that hard to practice saying it without the W, as an actor.

Probably a bit safer than the Japanese pronounciation Sam!

JT is NOT the chief pilot.

He is an honorary QF captain. He holds a US Air Transport Pilots Licence and was given a QF B744 type rating about 10 years ago. He flies his personal B707 which has QF titles.

He does not fly RPT sectors for Qantas.

So, it's all a gimmick really. But I still like him :)

Up until recently JT displayed the Qantas badge on his Cap however that has now been removed as apparently real Qantas pilots didn't think it did much for the QF image.

Personally I prefer the previous generation of the video.

However, they might be changing them on a more frequent basis in an attempt to get pax to watch them more often?

Meh could care less.

I have noticed though all the clearly 'casual' flyers all look up and 'ooh' and 'aah' when JT starts talking so QF have certainly achieved the grabbing attention part.

well past efforts havent seemed to work...maybe being patronising will ACTUALLY GET PEOPLE TO FASTEN THEIR SEATBELTS WHEN REQUIRED!!! i notice every day i fly that it is beyond some peoples capabilities to perform this simple task without being 'prompted' to!!

Accident reports consistently show that some people forget how to release their seat belts. I suspect the inclusion of seat belt instructions in the safety video is less to try to get people to fasten seat belts when required (although obviously important too) and more to try to minimise the number of people who can't open their seat belt in an emergency evacuation situation.

I have written these type of safety briefings before and though my memory might be failing me I am sure it is a legislative requirement to explain the operation of the seatbelts.

On JQi domestic segment today - they are still using the "subtly every aircraft is different ..." safety video for their 332's...

Correct Bill. was drummed into me for my PPL exam. As is explaining the use of lifejackets too.

Saw the video this evening for the first time. It's just the into and the epilogue with the rest a slighly changed re-edit of the previous safety video.

IMHO, not cringe-worthy at all. In fact I am pleased not to hear "Hello Again" - for some weird reason that has me cringing instead. :-|

I think the revamp may have been a response to market research when polling 20-30 year olds who associated QF with being an airline that your parents travelled on & that QF was seen as the 'maiden aunt' of airlines.

Maybe the powers that be thought a bilt of 'Hollywood' would appeal to the younger generation although there's a fair chance that JT who's 56 might actually be older than Capt Hello Again.

Captain Highhat replaced by JT

Flew two QF legs yesterday and was surprised to see that John Travolta was now introducing the preflight safety briefing instead of Captain Highhat. It actually looked quite good and should recapture passengers attention for the safety briefings for a while.

FWIW I counted the number of times the latest safety video says the word "team" and it's 8 times.

I thing it becomes annoying when the word is used in close succession such as towards the end of the video.
