Flew QF this morning, told by the CSM it just came in today. It was very surprising and I think reflects poorly on Qantas. Doesn't give the passengers any credit - almost like something that should be on Jetstar (if they had safety videos). I'm planning to let Qantas know of my negative feedback via a letter. Seems more low cost - like they're trying and failing to be more 'hip' and 'young'. I think a safety video should be refined and professional.

Thoughts once you've seen it? Maybe it's just me?

I'm flying a little later this afternoon. Will give you my opinion later! I'm looking forward to checking it out. I guess that at least people will pay a little attention - if nothing else.

I got Mr "Hello Again" this morning.

If they have JT doing the safety videos, I think that's pretty average to say the least. They push themselves as an Australian Airline, and JT is their 'ambassador'.

Last time I checked, ambassadors did their best work off-shore!

haha nearly know that one word to word now... does anyone know if the bloke is actually a real pilot?

Well I like the change for the sake of change. I agree John is not a fantastic ambassador but it got the attention of everyone. Even the flight attendants who had never seen it before.

V Australia's is a cartoon... ;) haven't seen JT, look forward!

He's a Chief Pilot. Not sure if he's the overall or just the A380 fleet.

No idea who he is specifically but Chief Pilot is a special title, it refers to a single person in the company with certain responsibilities defined under various bits of legislation and the company's Air Operator's Certificate.

Last I looked it up, Capt Peter Wilson was the chief pilot, and there were some deputy chief pilots across some of the fleets.

I haven't seen the new demo, so don't know how 'dumbed down' it is, but something that came from the QF30 incident showed that passengers, despite a clear safety demo, had no idea what to do, or complained that masks were not working because they bag didn't inflate when activated (which as we all know - it doesn't, but oxygen is still regulated).

Perhaps this more basic approach is so that it is truly clear for everyone, because at the end of the day - you don't really know who is onboard. Not everyone is a frequent flyer, not everyone speaks english.

That and most people are likely to panic in such a situation. A similar thing happened to Virgin a few years ago when their masks deployed. I don't remember the exact % but from memory about half the passengers didn't know what to do or froze.

I totally agree. Something more engaging is what will encourage those onboard to pay more attention to the video. Even though I am a frequent flyer, I'm not sure I'd know exactly what to do in an emergency. I think the brief at the start of the flight is a good reminder.

Something smart and not-professional but rather engaging is what I think is important. Air NZ's safety videos, for example, are really good at achieving this.

I enjoy the Air NZ demos, they make a nice change, however it would be interesting to see though if people remember in an emergency:
- How to don an oxygen mask and brace
or
- Naked flight attendants, rugby players and Rico

Naturally this would require an actual emergency, so hope I never actually get an answer.

It's like a fancy nightclub in the sky!
and of course:
Embrace yourself!

I know a lot of folks here didnt get into Rico, but personally I thought thier product looked awesome (cant wait to fly it) and they took the piss out of themselves pretty well while still explaining the safety side of things very well IMHO.

(Just on that, thier new 777 safety video, that is the longest safety video I have ever seen)

OK, saw it again today. Watching it again, it seems to have grown on me - yes, it probably does get more eyeballs on the screens which is important. Maybe it's the voiceover artist they used - she reminds me of Jetstar commercials?

I think it's the part when they say 'we know you already know how to operate a seatbelt, but just in case you've forgotten, we'll tell you again' (or something to that effect) and a few other similar sayings throughout that is just condescending (although it's almost like they're trying too hard not to be).

It seems 'cheesy' and less refined overall. But not *absolutely* terrible.

VS has had a cartoon for years, once with Ewan McGregor, Susannah York etc, now with Vic Reeves and someone I don't remember.

More engaging than the very bland SQ one.

In all these things, something slightly memorable is very useful!

BA has animation too, however I was always impressed that the pax were very diverse :)

Frankly I find the "Hello again, today you're traveling on a..." Captain quite creepy. His voice isn't good for that kind of media.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

JT is NOT the chief pilot.

He is an honorary QF captain. He holds a US Air Transport Pilots Licence and was given a QF B744 type rating about 10 years ago. He flies his personal B707 which has QF titles.

He does not fly RPT sectors for Qantas.

So, it's all a gimmick really. But I still like him :)
