Qantas Classic Reward & Upgrade Devaluation on 5 August 2025

Suddenly you are so certain of the precise number of people who fit a certain category ("a couple of hundred people in Australia"), yet you have no data, no proof and no idea that your belief is not the same thing as the truth.
How many people do you personally know that fall into the category I mentioned above?

My take at the moment is that the Qantas frequent flyer scheme, by world standards, is uncompetitive and Qantas J is also uncompetitive by world standards. If they can get away with it, good for them. Crown in Melbourne had no problem offering blackjack where 22 is a draw - if it were offered in Vegas, no-one would play. But there are enough mugs in Melbourne that you can't even find a seat even on a table as coughpy as that.

Can someone confirm, if I made a booking prior to Aug 5th. If I put in an upgrade request after aug 5th, what is the upgrade rate. Is it the new rate or old rate?

Bonus question, if I have a booking I made prior to Aug 5th but now change the date on it, I will have to put a new upgrade request. Will this have the old rate or new rate?

The upgrades are at the old rate if they were requested prior to Aug 5th. In both your examples, they'll be charged at the new (higher) rate.

I'm pretty sure changes will be at the old rate if the original booking was made prior to Aug 5th.

I flew OOL-SYD in J today and it’s very nice to see the much healthier 3500 points credited instead of the previous 2000.

I know this thread is about the devaluation of points but at least they’ve increased the earn rate.

So I've just logged into one of the PNRs I have - it is a regular CR seat and was booked prior to the increase in points and an alternative seat / date is calculating at the old points rates (ie. 75k for a business reward seat instead of 90k as it is currently if a new booking was made).

Therefore, theoretically, if I found another reward seat I wanted to add (say, 300 days into the future but before this PNR is flown), I still could do this by calling up - similar to adding legs onto a OWA and having it re-calculated accordingly at the old rate?

Yes

Yes, already been there and done that changing my old PNRs. In fact I had one split out and the HBA agent had to manually reprice my points cost as the system treated it as a new booking.

Looking to perhaps change flights to CGK booked pre devaluation.
Q1.
Points stay the same, do the taxes stay at the old rate?
Q2.
Can I change the destination without points/taxes changing online?
Aware will have the 5k change fee.
Thanks in advance for any input.

Don't know what specific changes you are referring to, however:
1. Points rate will still be the old one. Taxes depend on the exchange rate (if going internationally) and the airports you are going through.
2. You will have to call to change the destination. It will be repriced. Can't do it online.

FYI: Recently I changed a single segment Y classic to a 2 segment Y-J classic and the 5k change fee was not charged. This is the first time I've done this - added a higher cabin segment. Maybe they don't charge it for an "upgrade".
