Yesterday my 5:20pm Classic Rewards flight from Mackay to Brisbane was cancelled. I get it sometimes things happen. I was ultimately placed on the 7:30pm flight. However, soon after receiving the cancellation message I noticed there were seats still available on the 1pm flight and so I called Qantas (and waited on hold for 1 hour and 20 minutes) only to be told because I had a Classic Rewards flight I could not be placed on the earlier flight as there were only “commercial seats available” and that it was all set out in the relevant terms and conditions.
Fair enough, except this was 20 minutes before the 1pm flight, I happened to be at the airport and those seats were still available. Here was an opportunity for Qantas to demonstrate some customer service, and it would cost them NOTHING but flexibility. But nope, no can do.
To add insult to injury the 7:30 pm flight was ultimately delayed several times and it didn’t end up departing until 10:20pm.
