I have never flown a worse airline than tiger airways, and I have flown well over my fair share of bad airlines.

In summary, I have never experienced such, poor customer service, inconsistency in pricing and approach to hidden costs and delays, delays, delays. No to mentioned plain blank rudeness shrowded in company policy.

I for one will never fly tiger ever again and will explain my experience to anyone who asks.

Some examples of issues experienced in my retrn flight to Melbourne:
- weighed my bags at home all under the baggage allowance, on weighing them at Sydney airport they were 2kgs over per bag
- ended up paying $25 total charge for 18 kgs
- was told there was no surcharge paying by credit card
- on return from Melbourne with no extra luggage my bags now weighed 11kg each
- was told I has to pay $50
- when I asked if I could remove items from my bag to carry on, I was told I could but I would have to queue again and possibly miss my flight
- so I go to pay via MasterCard now I'm told there is a surcharge of $5
- I questioned the inconsistencies, I was given the line that it's company policy.

Sorry tiger airways, your inconsistencies cannot be company policy, and your staff lack of responsiveness to these issues is simply not good enough.

Please save yourself the hassle, effort and the dissapointment and pay a few extra dollars to fly a better airline.

I have had relatives and friends fly Tiger and they have described many of the things that happened to you.

I have not and will not by choice fly this form of air transportation.

You get what you pay for, simple as that!

Quite simply put!!!

Economic times are tough, and most of us do try and get the cheapest deal possible, but i have learnt, when it comes to flying either domestically or internationally, low cost carriers, for lack of a better word ' suck a*s '

But i must say tiger is pretty darn bad, i would go as far to say almost as bad as ryanair and easyjet, if not worse!

Our conditions on flying TT are:
  • Carry no luggage
  • Never choose a seat
  • Never pay CC fee
  • Avoid MEL (T4)

Have flown once purely out of interest. Arrived early and received exit rows. Flight was on time, never to be relied upon for connections. We were partly hoping for a major delay/cancellation so we could get a refund ;)

I have only booked when below cost so they lose more money. We purchased a few $1 tickets (with no additional fees) as throw away tickets, using one of them up in a month. Luggage will be taken on QF a week earlier :)

Sadly the majority of people flying are simply ill-informed or having to saving every penny, especially upon taking families on holidays. One needs to recognised they are going to be treated as a lower class accordingly. Yes it can be as bad as people say, but they have a purpose for the smart flyer. If you really just need cheap freight rates for SLC then you've found their use.

I am a TR virgin but i have a flight coming up soon..... SIN-HKT-SIN
I will only have carry on and have selected a seat (std seats) as i want to sit next to the people i am flying with.

I guess you have to have an open mind and as much as i hate the thought of flying TR i really can't justify the fares that SQ for example are charging for the same flights on a weekend away.

I am sure they are not the worst, but i reserve judgment. I would say you probably get exactly what you pay for and with 5c fares + taxes how much can you expect ?

Tiger airways (TT = Totally Terrible).
Never flown, never will.
I wonder which airline has the designator FC (sure you can guess...):D

I was once like some responding to this thread..... thinking "How bad could they be?" and thinking "Well for a low cost airfare, it will be worth it"

However, it was not till I flew with them that I realized how bad they really were. Makes service on easyjet, and ryanair seem like your travelling first class.

Also forgot to mention earlier that I flew to the 21:30 flight SYD-MEL and the plane obviously had not been cleaned all day. You could occasionally smell sewerage type odor coming from the toilets at the front of the plane when we first entered and throughout the flight. Terrible!

I don't know, if you don't have checked luggage or don't have connection, I don't know what the problem is.

I do wonder if ACA, or the authority that looks after fair trading actually checks scale calibrations, in the same way service stations calibrations are occassionally checked, if they don't someone should be checking them.

As for the toilets issue as pointed out above - Sh#t happens. (sorry). Really though, this can happen, I've experienced odour issues emanating from the toilet and/or air conditioning travelling upstairs on both SQ and QF for substantial portion of the flight. It really does happen.

With the Jetstar's price match, what reason is there to ever fly Tiger?

I guess you mainly thinking about JQ and TT where the routes may completely overlap, but 3K and TR do have different routes and times, and believe me when you require friday afternoon flights for example you sometimes have to take what you can get.

And of course i would much much prefer to be flying 3K instead of TR as i can depart SIN T1 and use the QF lounge. So i am flying TR only because i really can;t justify the SQ prices (more than double the total cost) and its only a 1 and half hour flight.

I guess you mainly thinking about JQ and TT where the routes may completely overlap.

Actually even JQ and TT have routes that don't overlap. The routes that TT fly that JQ don't include MEL-ASP/MKY/ROK/CBR and ADL-CBR/HBA, so they give some reasons for flying them. And Evan, I'm with you re TR/SQ it's pretty hard to justify paying double to fly SQ on same route for short flights like SIN-HKT.

I've flown TR once (KUL-SIN) it was fine, ran early, clean new aircraft and they allocated me an exit row (not a biggy for the 30min flying time), and as I was catching a taxi home the budget terminal was no big deal (shame about the LCCT at KUL). As for TT have flown them return once MEL-ROK-MEL with no dramas, and I really don't know what the issue with T4 is at MEL, essentially if I'm paying less than half the bus fare to the same place, I'm fine with leaving from a bus terminal (which is what T4 is like) - grander places come at a cost.

T4 is the pits, and they intend to sting you fully.
The T4 security screener's also seem to be on 'commission' for out of tolerance baggage that 'grown' or lacks magical check-in stickers.

Girlfriends and wives hate the 'walk' - even though it is less than a lap of westfield. The ones that have to unpack in front of everyone else - horror! I don't know where their repeat business is coming from.

I now stuff them up by being 1.5 hours early, and have a $10 digital scale (ebay) to ensure no baggage dramas. I would pay more for guaranteed on time check in - my time is valuable too - but they dont seem to want the extra money.

I also advise having a shopping bag full of air/dummy weight - so you can give it away to an attractive damsel in distress - and deprive them of $revenue.

Tiger also recently jacked up fares a tad, and make discounts further 'out', so I may be flying Virgin again soon.

Just look at this :shock: (this was today actually). Busting at the seams, and the queue usually ends up outside on the footpath. Online Checkin might help....

I have seen/heard enough and have vowed not to fly TT/TR by choice ever - along with a list of illustrious airlines like Ryanair, Air India etc. Mate of mine at Consumer Affairs VIC has some hilarious stories to tell. Whilst I do avoid LCCs in general by choice, exceptions exist especially where lounge access can be obtained (like the QF MEL/SYD Flounges ;) ) and where the alternatives are charging silly prices.

But I draw the line at TT/TR. You really (don't) get what you (don't) pay for - based on that principle I will gladly pay more to avoid this mode of transportation.

International from PER has always been OK (well family only did it twice) but not so good domestically.

Tiger had a single flight a week to MEL leaving on a Sunday morning, instead of the usual midnight horrors. They up and canceled that scheduled flight and did not inform us. We found out by accident that they had allocated us on the previous night 11:30pm flight.

We called their customer service and found that we could get on the same flight time (the last one from PER) but a month earlier, but when I said fine, they wanted to charge me a heap for price difference.

I said NO, and canceled the whole booking a got a refund a few weeks later.

If it is LCC out of PER it will be JQ from now on...

Ok.. We have flown with Tiger out of Melbourne twice.. once to Coolangatta and once to Adelaide.

Firstly.. If Tiger didn't exist, then there is absolutely no way you'd be getting $29 fares from any other airline, as Jetstar was just the "holiday Qantas" and Virgin weren't going too far from Qantas.

How anyone could expect any more than what you get from Tiger, with all of the documentation and TV programs about Ryanair and other cheap UK companies, I don't know.

We read through all of the "requirements" after booking our first flight. We made sure we were at T4 well before the 45 minutes cut-off. Luggage wasn't a problem as we had 4 people flying in the group and Tiger "combine" the luggage limits for "checked in" luggage. T4 is not great, but at some stage Melbourne Airport will have to upgrade it's facilities. The seats are not spacious, but for a budget airline.. what do you expect? Flights there and back were simple and straightforward.

The second flight gave us a little more to think about, as we had booked 3 "no luggage" tickets and one "with luggage". I thought we could combine the carry on luggage as we had with the checked case, but carry-on is treated differently to checked-in, so we bought an upgrade to one ticket, and upgraded the return flight when we got to Adelaide at the ground crew's suggestion.

So... It's a budget airline. You get tickets for under $80 to most parts of Australia. Follow the instructions, and for the most part.. you'll be fine.

I've been travelling around Australia by air for almost 40 years, and my experience with Tiger was no worse than some that I've had with Qantas and it's forbears.
