Tiger airways simply the worst airline

You get what you pay for, simple as that!

Having not jetted very far I can only comment on a few Tiger experiences some months ago flew HOB-Mel, Mel-Dar-Dar-Sin and then Sin-Bgk dont know if I have abbrev right, but couldnt fault the service or price Got a family of three to Bangkok return to Hobart for around $1200, all the domestic planes that i have flown on are new or new ish however a little older and worn on Sin-Bgk leg.
But as you say -you get what you pay for,
For us on the little isle I'd prefer a $28-$120 fare Hob-Mel...on tiger compared with paying up to $350 on some other carriers.
Keep roarin Tiger!!!

I've only flown them once - a MEL-SYD leg for $39 - which was perfectly fine. I had only carry on, which was a couple of kilos over - the checkin attendant didn't want to know about it. Flight was a few mins late leaving, but only a few, and was otherwise completely uneventful.

I'd happily take Tiger to MEL on the grounds that they actually fly into Tulla, as opposed to Geelong ;). The JQ flights to Tulla never seem to be available and/or reasonably priced.

Someone mentioned the LCCT in KUL - my girlfriend still has nightmares about arriving at that place at 6:30 on a busy morning to get an AirAsia flight... one security screening point for, um, everyone in Kuala Lumpur (apparently...). We missed our flight by miles. Fortunately, the replacement ticket was less than the taxi fare back to KL downtown... :D

Someone mentioned Tiger's 45-min check-in (rather than 30 mins). I don't think that's unusual these days, even with other airlines. At least that's how it is here in Canberra (with Virgin; not sure about Qantas). Looking at the other problems though, I don't think I'll be flying with the Tiger! Not much chance of that anyway, as the Tiger doesn't offer much here.

I have flown with them approximately 10 - 15 times. Have arrived at ADL at 6:00am for an 8am flight, checked in and then been informed of a 6 hour delay.
Have had a mixed bag with other flights but the last one was the final straw for my wife.
We flew ADL - MEL for the football. While there we bought a new car which I drove back. I dropped my wife and kids at MEL T4 (for the quick flight back while I did the 8 hour drive) when checkin opened for their MEL - ADL flight ( 2 hours before the flight). I then started to drive back to Adelaide. After I had been driving for an hour my wife rang and said the flight had been delayed by 3 hours. Eventually their flight left and when my wife rang after she had got home I was at Murray Bridge (only 1 hour away).
I was disappointed because I wanted to pick them up at ADL after dropping them at MEL. Missed it by 1 hour!!!
Never again on Tiger.

It's always surprising when so many new members make a post just to promote a company.

Why do you find it surprising?

Tiger gets a lot of bad press, but the majority is from people who just don't read the details of the service they're purchasing, or try to use the service to supply something that it's just not capable of doing (e.g. connecting flights).

As I said before.. we've had no real problems with Tiger and have had two great holidays as we've not had to invest a lot in the airfare.

But... I wouldn't fly Tiger where I had to connect.. and I wouldn't fly Tiger international.. (I'm quite large and wouldn't handle the long distance in the cramped seats.. and I wouldn't fly Tiger if I had a deadline to meet...

But... if I had those concerns, then I'd pay more for the "more guaranteed" service.

Tiger doesn't deserve a lot of the "bad press" it gets. If that means I have to post for the first time (after having been a member of this site since 2006!!), then so be it.

Actually not that surprising. The latest AFF newsletter featured Tiger, including a story with a link to this thread. Also, given this site is largely about "frequent flyers", particularly with a slant towards earning FF points, many established members probably do most of their flying on mileage earning/legacy carriers, and are less likely to have flown Tiger. New members may have.

And many of them are not exactly "promoting" the company - more just relaying their experiences some of them positive some not.

You could add if you or SWMBO are Type As then TT is not for you-indeed any LCC.

cheapflyer,

Welcome to AFF.

I have to say that this is a fairly broad generalization:!:

I pulled up a random return flight Melbourne-Hobart for 30 Sept - 2 Octand found the order (cheapest to dearest) Jetstar, Tiger, Virgin, Qantas and for the return Jetstar, Virgin, Qantas, Tiger.

As has been said many times here in the past, Tiger is OK for short domestic hops when time and connections are not important.

Just look at this.

As expected when I first posted this thread the majority of people think flying Tiger is simply not worth the low airfare.

Wish I had read similar threads prior and saved myself the headache.

I think Tiger are worth the low fare on a few of their routes like..
-MEL-ASP/ROK/MKY
-And some Adelaide base routes, they seem to have a a better OTP than their Melbourne base.

So happy to see the news is getting around. My husband and I bought seats for a 6.30pm flight from Launceston with Tiger because they were $20 cheaper than Virgin. Ha! Our hire car was scheduled for return at midday the next day. We relinquished it, joined the queue to be told the flight had been cancelled. We had to pay $285 each to return to Melbourne the next day on Qantas, $120.00 for accommodation, another day's car hire for $120 meals, extra parking at airport, both of us missed a day's pay because we had no medical certificates, our animals were unfed and unattended for 24 hours because our pet-sitter had left on Sunday afternoon assuming we would be home. My husband, a diabetic, had no extra tablets (eight) for the day. We were offered a re-booking for Wednesday evening (This was Sunday night - can you imagine our jobs still being there, and the price of extra accommodation not to mention four pets dead of starvation!) or our money returned in four to six weeks. I emailed my disgust at this pathetic service and did not even get the courtesey of a reply in apology. To all Ausralian travellers considering Tiger, DON'T DO IT! Thank God I've finally found this site to have a voice.

I guess most people would not have travel insurance for domestic travel?

I guess most people would not have travel insurance for domestic travel?

Unless you can get it for free (e.g. through your credit card), most people probably won't. To be more accurate, the likelihood of one purchasing insurance is directly proportional to the total cost of the travel. So for a $20 ticket it becomes hard to rationalise purchasing $10-$20 worth of travel insurance. Until it happens, of course (minus the potential excess that would result, plus the fact that travel insurance pays either slow or fast).

I don't know precisely what travel insurance would cover in the given scenario as well - PDSes are beasts to understand, and vary subtly.

Just jump onto the Skytrax site and look at their recent reviews..Surely a 2 star airline by the years end?

I have never bothered with Tiger Airways, not since a friend of mine traveled with them who cant stand for very long due to a nasty work injury to her ankle. She asked them for somewhere to sit at Melbourne and was told there was nowhere available and she would have to keep standing. Excellent customer care right there.

I have also been told by another friend of mine when he was flying, that the FA's started cleaning the plane en route to Adelaide, which is err.... also interesting. :p
