Tiger airways simply the worst airline

It's always surprising when so many new members make a post just to promote a company.

+1.... Especially when they describe a Tiger employee apparently breaking policy (overweight hand luggage) which their systems actually have a no-exception rule on.

No go!

The issue related to overweight luggage as you describe is inaccurate.

The issue is two pronged.

1, Inconsistent application of policy
2. Inaccuracy and variability of scales used in two different Tiger Airways terminals

The post to which I was referring was #22 just to be clear.

And I know the IS people who designed their proceedures so if you like add another prong to your list, but the 1 post people singing Tigers praises still sound very suss to me. Over and out.

T4 is the pits, and they intend to sting you fully.
The T4 security screener's also seem to be on 'commission' for out of tolerance baggage that 'grown' or lacks magical check-in stickers.

Yes, I agree, the "security" staff at T4 seem to be bad people.

They make up the "rules" as they go along and are obnoxious into the bargain.

I can only imagine that TT employs this crowd because they are very "cheap".

I have never bothered with Tiger Airways, not since a friend of mine traveled with them who cant stand for very long due to a nasty work injury to her ankle. She asked them for somewhere to sit at Melbourne and was told there was nowhere available and she would have to keep standing. Excellent customer care right there.

I have also been told by another friend of mine when he was flying, that the FA's started cleaning the plane en route to Adelaide, which is err.... also interesting. :p

I don't bother with Tiger Airways and If you belong to a Qantas or Virgin Affiliated Frequent Flyer Loyalty Programme why would you at all.
I have flown Virgin On Two Seperate Occassions as part of A P&O Cruise Holiday in both 2007 and 2008 and not once have I had to put up with any serious delays the worse I ever got was around 20 to 30 Minutes due to a late arrival of the incoming aircraft. They have looked after me pretty well.Another Time I flew Ansett to Melbourne as a Kid on a School Trip way back in June 1989 They gave me a Childrens Activity Pack and Lunch for the day which was something unexpected from the Crew.I don't think Tiger would go out of their way to do anything like that today.

The Only good thing Tiger has done is take many would be people who normally drive between Cities and put them on a plane therefore lowering the road deaths each year.

Of course they damn wont!
Some people need to get the image in their head that we are dealing with a Ultra Low-Cost Carrier here, something Australia has not had before. Sure Jetstar is LCC, but they have a cost base 10x as high and dont exactly operate the same as Tiger do. Tiger have the second lowest cost base for any airline in the entire region (perhaps the world also) after AirAsia. If Tiger was to operate like Virgin do and have staff all over the place, free kids packs, etc etc...then they could never achieve their profit goals and not offer these $28 fares 365 days a year.

Without doubt this airline could operate better, and Aerocare pride themselves on "Integrity" which is a little worrying sometimes, but it seems they only like promoting their fiasco's as shown on that TV Show. But with fuel costs rising again, they will just continue chopping and changing.

Low cost or not, I still expect the airline to get me from point a to b, and preferably to get me there close to on time.

Thats a fail to Tiger on both accounts.

I would also expect that baggage rules be applied with consistency, baggage weighing systems to be accurate and basic human courtesy to be provided.

Fail again.

.

Wow - thats a huge sample of flights to go by to judge an airline, TWO separate occasions! And even then at least one of them was delayed!!!

Then you compare Tiger to Ansett in 1989 pre deregulation!! I'm sorry, but what planet are you living on?

They have also, to quote the late Don Chipp, helped to 'keep the cough's honest'

My sister flew Tiger a couple of months back. That was her first and only flight on Tiger. It was Melbourne-Canberra return. She was refused boarding on the forward flight because she was 2 minutes late checking in (OK, her fault for not checking the rules). The next flight was much later in the day so she walked up to Virgin and was away within 45 minutes - it was only a few dollar more expensive anyway. On the way back she was charged $160 for overweight baggage.

As a a result of this neither she nor I will ever, ever fly Tiger. We are not the desperate to save a few dollars. As an aside, I will never fly Jetstar again after a single experience.

Clearly Tiger is aimed at schoolies and Centrelink clients -- the great unwashed.

I really don't know how it can come to pass that this is a surprise, unless booked sometime ago (perhaps before the Tiger booking engine was as transparent as it now?). There is a section that is clearly part of the booking process that states "Prepay your Luggage Upsize™ here & SAVE!" which outlines the options/costs for checking in 15/20/25/30 kg of luggage.

Well, you can't have it both ways - you either fly cheap and nasty, or pay more to fly a better airline. I don't consider TT (and for that matter JQ unless i can access the Flounge - too many bogan pax and skan_s onboard) a suitable form of transportation so they don't factor into any of my travel plans. I am prepared to pay more to fly decently on DJ or QF. But if I can't afford it, I don't travel. If a destination is only served by TT/JQ, I don't travel. That's the choice I make.

Others might see TT as a worthwhile proposition, but expect no more than what is a totally no frills airline with wayward 'pay as you go' ways. If you have higher expectations, suck it up and pay more, not go cheap and nasty and then whinge about it after.

I think they were a netball team. But could've been anything else from those outfits and cheap jewellery...
