Looking at the numbers released yesterday

VIC has a higher first dose percentage for 12-15 year-olds than NT, QLD and WA have for 16+.

Every age group 65-69 and up has reached 80% fully vaccinated. 50-54 has reached it as well.

30-34 should reach 80% first dose soon.

Didn't work for me.....I just got back from a Terry White Chemist, they checked my Medicare records (so much for a chemist not being able to check your medicare records) ?…

So, scratch Terry White. Flush that idea, now.

At the Vic Presser today it was indicated:
Mr Andrews: "90.5% of Victorians have now had a first dose, and 71.1% of Victorians aged over 16 are fully protected."
If that is confirmed in the Federal update this afternoon, that will be a large jump from recent times on the first dose rate and different from the vaccination pattern of late where a lot more second doses were occurring than first doses.. And a decline in the second dose rate. Total doses still high.

  • 20th (reported 21st) 89.58% and 70.51%.
  • 19th ( reported 20th) 89.21% and 69.28%
It may just be an aberration in the figures being adjusted which happens from time to time. Or it could be due to factors like more Pharmacists and pop-ups opening up.

Or even that with lockdown concluding that the access benefits of the vaccinated to activities and jobs has motivated more of the vaccine hesitant to get vaccinated.

It will be interesting to see today's figures confirmed, and if accurate what the rates are over the next few days.

AZ along with Oxford university have started testing an AZ vaccine aimed at the new variants.

I have already posted that a trial in the UK giving a 3rd dose of AZ at least 6 months after the second dose had an even higher antibody response than after the second dose with less side effects.
Those getting a Pfizer or Moderna booster shot now are getting the standard vaccine not a variant vaccine so no real difference to a third AZ shot.
ATAGI at this stage have only advised boosters for immunocompromised patients. There was a meeting on Wednesday I believe was discussing boosters but no release of the results yet.Normally the weekly report would be out by now.

The Presser came late today. I think the state government may have access to some real-time data so those figures could include some vaccinations that took place today ahead of the presser.

Though if those vaccinations did all occur yesterday, maybe the prospect of international travel being imminent may have convinced some of the hesitant to go out and get the jab.

and flush the idea of my local independant chemist.

They were more blaise, yet professional....I was in the room with pharmacist, dose on table & he told me I've had 2 pfizer's....oh boy, sign!

I believe once they have your medicare number they'll input it & see your jab history, would be either very lucky or unprofessional pharmacist to get away with a 3rd jab I'm thinking.

3rd time luck at Chemist Warehouse......I highly doubt it.

funny thing he did tell me some would like to have the double dose on record without actaully taking them, ha cos I said there's an error I'll follow up with medicare!

Something is astray between the Vic Presser and the Commonwealth for while first dose is higher, the second dose is lower than the Commonwealth' figures. If real time both should be higher.

Mr Andrews: "90.5% of Victorians have now had a first dose, and 71.1% of Victorians aged over 16 are fully protected."

Today's Commonwealth figures for Victoria: 89.93% first dose. 71.81% second dose

  • 20th (reported 21st) 89.58% and 70.51%.
  • 19th ( reported 20th) 89.21% and 69.28%

So first dose up 0.35%. Second dose up 1.30%. Which is the same recent trend.

If that second dose rate is maintained, or at least averages 1.17%, the state average will pass 80% for second dose 16+ on the Oct 28th. If so the horse racing fans (I am not one) will be happy. But off-grid camping here I come ;)

An increasingly desperate WA tries a raft of mandates to kick up a stalling vaccine program. Good idea IMHO.

WA is adopts strong COVID vaccine mandate to drive flagging vaccination rates

As the West Australian government rolls out the toughest vaccine mandate in the country, with 75 per cent of the workforce told to get the jab, many other states will be watching on with interest to see how it unfolds in WA.

But WA Premier Mark McGowan has attempted to deflect suggestions the move was in response to the state's sluggish vaccine rate.

A week or two ago, there was also a differential between ACT and Federal reporting. Some suspected it was out of town era/out of Territory skewing numbers and others suspect differences in denominator. AIR data might not match....etc etc

Today's numbers released tomorrow will show VIC going past 90% first dose.

Nationally 75-79 is the first age group to reach 90% fully vaccinated.

Every age group 30-34 and up has reached 80% first dose.

In VIC every age group 16-19 and up except 20-24 and 95+ has gone past 80% first dose.

Some major milestones have been reached.

VIC has reached 90.25% first dose for 16+. We're also moving further ahead of TAS on second doses.

QLD has reached 60.01% fully vaccinated for 16+ leaving only WA yet to reach 60%.

55-59 is at 79.9% fully vaccinated so when today's numbers are released tomorrow every age group 50-54 and up except 60-64 will be past 80% fully vaccinated.

35-39 is at 69.5% fully vaccinated and could reach 70% as soon as when today's numbers are released tomorrow.

TAS has gone past 50% first dose for 12-15 year-olds (50.29%) and VIC has gone past 1/3 (33.89%) fully vaccinated for the same age group.

NSW at 48.83% fully vaccinated for 12-15 year-olds is closing in on 50%. The ACT has reached 50.45% fully vaccinated for 12-15 year-olds, the first state or territory to go past 50%.

NSW has reached 90.14% fully vaccinated for 50+.

VIC is making up ground compared with NSW on fully vaccinated numbers. VIC jumped from 71.81% to 73.12% whereas NSW had a more modest jump from 83.73% to 84.41%. For first doses VIC went from 89.93% to 90.25% whereas NSW went from 92.83% to 92.96%.

NSW may be reaching the point where vaccination numbers for 16+ don't have much further to go and the slowing in first doses has flowed through to second doses.

In NSW there's not a lot more they can do when it comes to first doses except continuing with 12-15 year-olds and opening up to younger age groups if they become eligible, so certainly the time has come for needing a booster rollout in NSW. People getting boosters in NSW are certainly not going to stop people from getting their first two doses, especially if the rollout is targeted initially at the most vulnerable and those who were vaccinated first.

Yes what a difference having a reasonable number of GPs and Pharmacists open makes to the vaccination rate.

The Primary Care Channel in Vic has gone from delivering substantially less doses than the State Channel to now delivering a clear majority of doses. 62 % today. A majority of people, if given the choice, clearly prefer the GP's and Pharmacist Channel. And easier access helps more people to get vaccinated.

Vic yesterday reached 90.25/73.12 % for 16+ and 76.77 /33.89 % for 12-15

The first dose gap to NSW has substantially narrowed and on current rates if maintained for 16+ will be the same or greater percentage within a fortnight, and for 12-15 year olds within a week.

The second dose gap is also rapidly closing.

Hmmm I think I was thinking of 90% for 95+ or looking at the wrong column yesterday.

Every age group 16-19 and up has gone past 80% first dose except for 20-24 in VIC. Next week sometime it'll probably be every age group 12-15 and up past 80% first dose in VIC or maybe every age group except 12-15.

Every age group 35-39 and up has gone past 90% first dose in VIC except for 45-49 at 89.73% and 95+ at 88.84%.

Every age group 40-44 and up has gone past 80% fully vaccinated in VIC except 45-49 at 77.01%, 60-64 at 79.62% and 95+ at 76.50%.

So in VIC it's mostly the 30-34 and under age groups below the state average vaccination rate for first doses and mostly 35-39 and under age groups below the state average for fully vaccinated.

My pharmacist rang me during the week to say that I qualified for third vaccination. I received my Moderna injection Thursday (have had two AZ) and my online vaccination certificate is already updated to the third vaccination.
Now to add it to my passport.

I've been fortunate that I've had absolutely no reaction to any of these jabs.

12-15's have gone up 6.08% first dose over the last week. And 8.42 % the week prior.

Reached 76.77% yesterday (reported today), 3.23% shy of 80% and so should go past 80% sometime mid-week.

I guess he didn't read the health advice too closely

Although voluntary compliance by these workers would be preferable to mandates, the inconsistent uptake of the vaccine leaves me, as the Chief
Health Officer, with limited options.
