10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

I got my November allocation of 10,000 points on cue last Friday (I'm one of the unlucky ones, only on 10K/20T) so have now got my October and November points. One more lot to go and that's it.

However, I notice that my bonus came with the 21st Australian transaction this time, not the 20th as happened in October. I had a couple of Paypal transactions and even though I am with Paypal Australia, they are still done in US dollars etc. so they don't count.

But I did have 2 transactions at Safeway on the same day one after the other. HOWEVER, one was in the supermarket and one was in the attached Safeway Liquor store, so there was no way to avoid 2 transactions. When I looked at the detail on my online statement, both transactions showed up as "Groceries" which is incorrect!

Members have speculated here umpteen times about multiple transactions with the same vendor on the same day and whether they are being checked. Maybe I am just being paranoid but on the face of it, looks like one of my Safeway transactions might have been denied! Lucky I had done an extra tx this month to cover it.

Good luck to all the people who are gearing up for a possible fight with Amex in the next few days if the points they are owed don't post. Going to be interesting reading the forum from here on in, I guess.

IME everything is fine.
If you have bonus points posting, they are posting on schedule. You will find the "21st" transaction will count in the next group.

A good tip was given by bravoecho1 to search for the month.

Still no bonus points posting for me. I will have to wait longer than most people, probably end of December, to find out if I get any bonus points for October onwards as my September bonus points appear to be correct and my first transaction in October wasn't until the 9th....

Just a quick comment in response to the Starbucks coffees.
Gloria Jeans will also take Amex - happily :) - and they were also happy to click an old coffee card I had in my wallet (a few years old).

All the Gloria Jeans around my place do not accept Amex. Most seem to be franchises, so it seems to be up to each owner as to what cards they accept.

I'll pop out of the woodwork for a post or three

Entered all 3 promos
Starting getting points 5/5
Was POCed
Received the letter saying 5000 for 10T
Started to receive points in Nov
45,000 points received in total which which is correct for all September tranasctions :D
Many tranasctions made since, but no more points, I think points will start again, I am of the understanding 8-10 weeks from the end of each month seems to fit, but again who knows

Now as for KFC, Gloria Jeans, Subway etc etc

VERY frustrating as it seems to be up to the franchisee if they want to accept credit cards and/or AMEX.

Two KFC's near me don't accept it
No Gloria Jeans in a 30km radius of me accept it and my closest two dont' even accept credit cards/eftpos
Most subways are cash only around me, one takes credit cards but not AMEX
Coffee Club - None that I have been to accept AMEX - Been to 4 now!
Nandos - Again most accept AMEX but not all

So basically it's up to the franchisee if they want to accept credit cards and/or AMEX. It would be nice that a chain of stores such as Nandos had a requirement that each store accept AMEX.

Very frustrating and all have been reported here https://www152.americanexpress.com/eforms/un/en_AU/eformsPage.do?face=en_AU&prod=Rapid&todo=view

As for multiple transctions, I am not worried about the Woolworths and then Woolworths liquor transactions, as you don't have a choice in most cases. You have to purchase liquor in the liquor section and groceries have to go through the groceries aisle. Although some liquor departments will process up to a basket of groceries, but that doesn't suit me at the moment.

My dads Amex received a promo postcard in the mail today. 5,000 points for every 5 transactions for the month of December. Up to a maximum of 10,000 points. I had him sign up to unlimited promo on the 17th of Sept. They better not be getting cheeky because they haven't notified any change to the fact that he is signed up on unlimited promo

I received a similar postcard as well today.

Now I did get the postcard for the unlimted bonus, and I had registered for it, but have never received points. Now I wonder if the reason I have not received any points yet is that they 'lost' my registration.......hmmm....

No, you don't necessarily have a choice about having to make 2 transactions to buy liquor and groceries, well not at my Safeway anyway.

My point was that the detail that Woolworths sent to Amex was "groceries" in both cases. One should have correctly said "liquor" purchase to differentiate it from the "grocery" purchases.

Purchases were at two separate and discreet areas but I notice the Cashier number is identical. So there is nothing there to tell Amex that they are two totally different transactions. I guess from this that Safeway Liquor is not a discreet identity within the Woolworths family and runs on the main (grocery) store computer system.

IF (and that is a mighty big IF) Amex has some way of checking our transactions then based on the detail Woolworths sent them, they could conceivably construe my two transactions as double dipping or bill splitting.

I am not saying that happened necessarily, it is just an anomoly that aroused my attention, so I went back and checked.

Think it's fair to say that we are all watching our points postings like hawks now and are very quick to spot anything slightly out of the ordinary. And there's probably the odd member or two here are trying to second guess what Amex might do at any given moment, seeing as they are in deep do-dos and probably very keen to minimise their points liabilities!

Anyway, that's my two bob's worth for the time being - but too small a transaction to put on my Amex Card :D

Going all out on a $62.30 bottle of wine huh  Oh wait it's the other way around :) Sounds like me at the moment, any bottle under $10 is great at the moment. I have noticed that the specials have dried up this week though with Xmas coming up.

I have also had 2 free bottle of wine as someone left the sale signs up, it scanned incorrectly so I was entitled to them for free. This was on two seperate days. So I ended up with 2 free bottle, but of course had to purchase another bottle!

I have become friends with the owner of of a small outlet which shall remain nameless, that normally has a $10 min on credit cards. I find it hard to spend $10 there each day so he/she agreed that until Xmas she wouldn't care about me spending under $10.

As a result of this I am a customer for life and daily at the moment! :D

I have assured her that after Xmas will have larger transactions less often!

I got the new postcard too. Postcarded for the original (5K/5T), received some initial points, until the date they stopped for everyone.

Some may remember I've been asked to justify my transactions under the original promo (AMEX considered them abusive). So who knows what this second offer is all about - but given the low points cap I think I will be ignoring it just on the off chance it supercedes the original uncapped promo offer

I have the same issue with Safeway so I'm guessing it's common and therefore should not present an issue.

I'd say this one gets the understatement of the thread award :!:

Was a bottle of Port actually, which I used to soak the fruit when I made the Christmas Cakes!

Yes the specials have dried up, but when I was trying to make up my 20 transactions I bought a few bottles here and there to put away for Christmas.

Okay so you were asked to justify your tranasctions and now they are offering you another offer

AMEX really do well at these marketing offers!

A few people have said they have received new postcards now, I place a safe bet that AMEX is re-posting everyone these postcards and if you do sign up for it, your capped!

How is the "explain yourself to AMEX" going ?

I am suspcious of it as the t&c's are very much from a multi-month promotion (the count resets each month), but is only a December promotion, and it does talk about only one registration.

So would it replace my previous promotion, or is it in addition to the previos promotion....

So they have yet again stuffed up the T&C's by the sounds of it.

I wouldn't be going near the new promo at all or indeed registering for it!

It does add futher doubt to the current promo though, but a silly postcard means nothing, except that they have stuffed up their mail outs once again

I too received the new 10,000 point December offer, and am not going to register for it.

I have a strange feeling that it may be classed as a multiple enrollment and jeopardise the original offer, whilst the T&C don't state this, I would rather forego those points for the points due from the original offer.

Very interesting that several people have received this postcard today!

I am still sticking with that if you register for this one, the original offer will be void and you will be capped.

I assume that AMEX is trying this tactic to get people off the unlimted offer during the busiest month of the year in sales.

I know I can easily get 200 transctions this month without really trying, even on the 5/10 promot that's a nice 100,000 points!

Dont' bother being greedy for 10,000 points with this latest offer

I too received a postcard for the 20T/10K offer... I won't be registering. My thoughts are you will be removed from the unlimited one and placed on this one off 10,000 bonus (i did over 150 transactions last month).

I think i will be phoning them again tomorrow since i still haven't been called back about my original complaint.

Be VERY careful doing that as you may end up registered in the new promo!!!

I have compared my two postcards and taking into account what has been on this thread, I strongly suspect that it would override my previous enrolment.

Although one could argue that they are two different promotions, for which I have two postcards.
