ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I thought AccessLine was business only which would imply it would be limited to ‘Buiness’ rather than ‘consumer’ cards. Happy to be corrected as I only have consumer cards but would be interested in using it.

Unfortunately you are correct, you do need to have a "business" card, but that does include small business cards which only require an ABN and business income to get.

For Amex, Amex themselves are probably the best option - they have a service called AccessLine which allows you to pay anyone (even overseas) who doesn't accept Amex by bank transfer, and they settle the transaction to your Amex (for a 2.15% fee). ATO accepts Amex directly though so no good for that.

Our experience with Accessline was pretty shocking. Found out that they process the payments made from Aus overseas and after having to provide an invoice for every single payment mean we weren't staying with them. Also considering the multiple day turn around for payments and hit and miss customer service...

Interesting. I have only had to provide an invoice to load a new supplier, not a new payment. I can see it would be annoying if you were paying a new supplier every month. Turnaround in my experience was about two days (about what I'd expect from SWIFT), and the processing of the payment in the destination country makes sense given it's how they get a decent rate.

I did find it ironic that one supplier it messed up paying was... American Express.

We thought after having been with them for a number of months they'd show a bit more love but it seems as though that's not the case. Also had a number of work mates have a similar experience - further seeing as they're contractors it was an absolute nightmare sending in invoices for nearly every individual. Also as their customer service is based overseas important points were often lost in translation

The dragon card is the Parent of the cards you mention. I can’t vouch for government charges counting towards sign Up bonus points, but these cards will earn points for everything.

I would be interested to know if anyone has received sign up bonus points using a dragon card to pay Canberra.

No it is specifically excluded. I had to figure out how to get to $12,000 non government expenses for my favourite eldest son. I used his CC today at the dermatologist and the pharmac_ and have some sports tickets pending. Once that processes I will have pretty much finished other than getting his CC balance to zero. To do that I will pay the fiscal fiend. I think my son is impressed with the points balance growing so quickly.

In my experience - yes.

Either way, I guess it's only a 0.22% difference in CC surcharge, given that ATO direct is 0.78% for Visas and Yak Pay is 1%. On a $2k minimum spend, this is a difference of about $4. Worth paying for the guarantee that it will pay the sign up bonus.

Plus you get full points compared to only getting half (typically)

I think I will be ready to hand my eldest sons credit card back this coming weekend. He should find that I have run up a 7 figure number of dragon points for him. This week he is in Tokyo for a soccer game that he will be watching and then back at work on Friday.

Lucky I was able to get to sleep after the idea of no credit cards working on this subject.
i could just buy various points and miles from various airlines. I think we have at least 3 years of points and miles held so no rush.

Yes we should all think positive thoughts only.. collectively and cross our fingers and toes

I do rate Qantas points way lower than Kris miles. That said I did a redemption booking for two to SYD and it was easy and quick to get A330 business class from PER.

I would agree with that. Taxes alone on SQ are way more palatable than QF, so you definitely get more value from your 0.5/0.75/0.825 points over to Kris versus into QFF.
