I know when I started this thread it was risky but can we please use this thread to discuss the election, the primaries, impact on economy etc rather than an individual eg Trump. Thoughts?

Well in the US their elections boil down to the individual, not their parties like our system, so its a bit hard to seperate the two.

Rooey - or anybody else - what does your wife, daughter, mother etc think about Trumps statement that he can basically grab any woman on the pu**y because he is a powerful man - sorry I wasn't clear enough earlier.

Of course he is up himself, but so are many politicians - but if he is a Harvey Weinstein, then matters should follow the same course. There are politicians down under who have done their share of pu**y grabbing, but just not mentioned it near a recording device. And I have worked with my share of boasters about similar antics - and found out later that it was someone totally unexpected that was an actual doer.

My wife says if he tried it with her it would be the last thing he did.

And elections are not about moral superiority - they are about who gets the most votes.

I think the number was more like 30%. Remember voting is not compulsory, so its not a 100% pool. And then their whacko electroal college system meant that more people voted for Hillary Clinton, but Trump got the vote with a smaller %

No, its not too difficult to answer - the answer is easy. Its just that you premised your question with an insult to all those you were addressing. Even if you don't like the other side, if you want to engage with them (which is great), not insulting them up-front helps. Just my 2 cents

And, I seem to recall that DT won the popular vote, or at least that is what he said (so HC could not have been more popular than DT).

What I don't get about Trump, is that he is a master con-man, he has even convinced a fair chunk of the population that he's a successful businessman (I suppose playing one on a scripted TV show can help that). And, otherwise seemingly intelligent rational folk can't see this. I'm honestly stunned.

While mild, I'm afraid that's along the lines of so much criticism of the success of Trump, Johnson, Morrison, Brexit, the Republic referendum, etc goes. That those on the non 'progressive' side of the vote are stupid, or ill informed, or couldn't see through a con job etc. I've no doubt that such exist - possibly in numbers, even on both sides. But equally, those "seemingly intelligent rational folk" could have simply weighed the pros and cons and come down for the side they believed would benefit them most, or the side that doesn't call them 'deplorable', for instance.

Trump is a product of the media. The media does its best to polarise people for or against him. Outrage generates big $$$ for the liberal leaning media, they want him to stay. Fawning coverage generates favours and $$$ for the conservative media, they want him to stay. He's going to stay. Unfortunately it nigh on impossible to get an unbiased, factual view of what he's done. As much as they won't admit it, neither his supporters or his detractors will look at his performance critically and objectively. His supporters never think he does anything wrong. His detractors never think he does anything right. I don't personally know anyone who doesn't do somethings well, and I I don't personally knowone who doesn't make some errors and mistakes.

Then there's the vested interest - aka corruption - in US politics, around political campaign fundraising, who will ensure there interests are represented above all else.

We are all just pawns in the money making game.

Soliciting foreign influence into elections is illegal under the American Constitution. Whether its for this election or a previous one doesn't make it any less illegal. That Biden is also a current political foe meant that Trump should've been extra careful, besides, if he wanted Biden investigated, he has his Attorney General (who is just as much a Trump sycophant) to hold the investigation, He didn't need and should not have asked Ukraine to do this.

So unfortunately, whilst you may feel this or that about it, the letter of law is clear, and Trump violated it, and his supporters have basically moved from a position of "he didn't" to" so what?"

So in your eyes Joe Biden should have been impeached when he was VP because he has admitted withholding aid to Ukraine until a prosecutor investigating his son was sacked.
As for Trump it is not illegal to ask for someone to be investigated for corruption.

Agree, the tide has been turning since Clinton who preyed on a woman without power. If men in the public eye keep doing these things (as opposed to saying they do these things) then they are more and more likely to be outed.

However, Ms Bondi is not exactly impartial. Ms Bondi is also not under oath as far as I know. Ms Bondi is there for a specific purpose.

Actually the FBI did investigate Joe but the Ukrainian witnesses they wanted to question were not given US visas in time.The Ambassador then was the one Trump sacked.The FBI then and probably still now weren't under Trump's control.Besides with the hearings on the FISA court there is no way Trump is going to trust them.
