US election 2020

Aah beginning to think these sort of threads are futile. No analysis, no contesting of ideas. Actually quite predictable, can almost guess who is going to chime in and what they will say. Dump on the personalities or defend the personalities, that’s what modern politics is I guess.

In some ways it’s like one eyed football team supporters - except the difference being one eyed supporters, even though they will support their team come hell or high water, can be extremely critical of week to week decisions of the coach, but in politics the side one is supporting can never do any wrong it seems.
I did try and set the tone when I started the thread. In hindsight might have been better to have a democrat primaries thread and let it evolve from there.

let it evolve from there

This is AFF.. evolution is a given !
In this intellectually shallow , "insta-world" …folks want to talk about stuff that moves them emotionally
Hate is the most common emotion in political discussion , sadly reason doesn't even make the team

Might have been better to stick to travel related issues! :D To say there are entrenched views would be putting it mildly.

We get the politicians we deserve .....
I'll say.

"...an Auditor-General’s report that found the Labor leader administered a grants program that “disproportionately” gave money to Labor seats when he [Albanese] was infrastructure minister.
An Australian National Audit Office report in 2011 found ministers “waived” the eligibility criteria for projects funded by Labor’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, and that a number of projects from Coalition seats did not get funding.
“Whilst the majority of applications received related to projects located in a Coalition-held electorate (55 per cent of all applications), the significant majority (some 82 per cent) of these were not approved for funding,” the 2011 audit office report reads.
"“Whilst 40.3 per cent of all applications related to a project in an ALP-held electorate, just under 60 per cent of approved projects were in an ALP-held electorate. The approval rate for these applications was 42.1 per cent, which was more than twice that of projects located in a Coalition-held electorate."

Here's why President Trump will be re-elected:

59% of Americans says they are now better off than a year ago, and 74% of Americans say they will be better off in a year's time.

Wow, I try a post which is purely rational and non-partisan analysis, and get jumped on by a poster. Proves yet again that, for the ideologically-blinded Left, it is not policies or ideas or facts that is important, but whose side you are on.

Please read this again: "Lies, damned lies, and statistics". And there was no being "jumped on". Certainly that was not my intention.

Edit: My quote was from Wikipedia, for what that may be worth. :) . Nothing added by me, one way or the other. Just a quote, as was yours. All looks quite kosher to me

Oh boy! I do not see the point of these party political broadcasts. Nobody is learning anything and everybody just ends up disliking everybody.

Yep - personal greed is the same the world over. Doesn't really explain why ANY self-respecting woman would vote for Trump, but those hard done by white males certainly have a hero now. The impeachment process has confirmed what Trump himself said - he could shoot someone in broad daylight and he would still be voted in.

We sure do. I remember the Pink batts affair (the loss of life there wasn't a technicality) , the School halls affair etc. Dragging one side of politics' foibles into these threads will usually mean exposure of the other side's. Lets keep this to USA politics, eh?

I was inferring that the lack of honesty and integrity has reached new lows world-wide, and Trump as the hero of the uncaring majority in the USA was not the anomaly - just the new normal.

But feel free to conflate the topic with the example of a stimulus package that was rushed through to keep us out of recession (which worked) but was ultimately undermined by corporate greed that tragically resulted in the deaths of 4 inadequately trained and supervised installers.

Back on topic ... do YOU think it was OK for Trump to pressure the Ukraine government to investigate a political rival?

The topic of this thread is the 2020 ELECTION.

In that case, I apologise.
Not at all. I’m sorry if I gave you that impression. I try to avoid that sort of thing, although it can be easy to misinterpret the vibe sometimes.

So Trump trying to undermine one of his main political rivals for the 2020 Election ISN'T on topic?

Its old news so I think this thread will be more interesting if we talk about real time issues. Such as the Iowa caucus results are still not finalised 3 days are it happened.

Fine. The caucus system includes some sort of preferential voting system (which is good), but in all other respects is a overly complex way to select presidential candidates. I'm not surprised that it is a chaotic mess, but that's par for the course in the USA.
