I'm guessing V Australia will be hitting Boeing for some of the costs of the delay.

Interesting that the article says they will worry about that later and that sorting out the issues and helping customers is the first priority :!:

I have booked to depart on the 2nd of Feb - so I guess I have to wait until they contact me. I deliberately booked a month or two after the launch, expecting a few problems.

I'm just hoping its not with United. I would prefer the boat trip over United . . .

They are only rebooking pax who are travelling upto 16JAN. I presume they are hoping the strike will end and will be able to start flying earlier. As a precuation though, they have restricted new sales to the 28FEB date

Maybe they are helping customers while someone goes off and reads the contract with booing.

Long time reader, first time poster.. hi!

I was booked on the inaugural flight, coming back in early January. Called VA last night and asked to be rebooked; the rep who I spoke to wasn't able to help me directly but confirmed that they were rebooking affected pax on to a combination of UA and QF.

I've asked to be put on to QF if at all possible - he said that someone would be in touch over the next few days to confirm details with me. Fingers crossed for a happy outcome.. :P

Does anyone actually believe that Skytrax has credibility :?:

Have you noticed that many of the comments on Skytrash are from disgruntled economy passengers who are annoyed that they didn't get the best seat in the cabin, or a only got a seat with (shock, horror!) 32" of pitch, or more than a one-tray meal, or any other of the special privileges that they believe that they are somehow entitled to, above the rest of the passengers in the economy cabin?

I have flown on literally thousands of United flights, and I can count the truly awful experiences on one hand.

Don't be too swayed by annoyed passengers who; if they required a higher level of comfort and service; should have booked at seat in the business or first class cabins. It's call economy because it's cheap. Expect it to be a cheap experience - put up with it, or spend some money.

I am booked early Feb 09 and fingers cross that they may send up on Hawaiian Airlines Hope may get a stop over in Hawaii Woo Hoo or Alternatively Fly Qantas on a Airbus 380

I think I will be lucky and miss the United Boat as United will only be flying extra flights to USA from Australia until 31 Jan 2008

Best of luck to all

Flying via HNL wont be an option due to the increased cost with the extra flight (HNL-LAX)

After 31st of Jan UA still have 2 flights per day to the U.S., more than enough to cover any slack from VAustralia

They won't rebook you just yet - currently they are only rebooking oax upto 16JAN as they are hoping the strike may finish early.

Noticed their billboard "There's a new way to LA" has disappeared from the Pacific Highway at Coffs Harbour: a little embarassing perhaps:?:

According to this New York Times article, a tentative agreement was reached Monday night between Boeing and the union and is to be recommended to members in the next few days.

That would be great news for V Australia as I presume that would allow them to start late January?

From what I saw in the original release they have only rebooked pax upto 16JAN as they hoped the strike would be finished earlier.

As a precaution they did however stop selling NEW seats until 28FEB.

The Boeing guys i was with in San Francisco last week were a little circumspect, but supportive that the strike may be resolved. It was not helping anybody, as the workers clearly know long term there is little choice to keep the busines going (unless they want to move to Brasil or China). The buffer they had with Airbus difficulties has been quickly eroded - and have issues enough with certification / acceptance of the Dreamliner and the forthcoming 747-800.

In context of the original post, the staff at V are also peeved - many sitting on their hands with not much to do.

We were notified today that the union and Boeing have reached an agreement (subject to ratification) which we're very happy about, but will take a short while to work out when each aircraft will now come off the production line. Stay tuned on confirmation of dates of inaugural V Australia flight (although I hasten to add that I cannot give any information here that is not being otherwise made public sorry).

Great news crazydave98. I imagine the sighs of relief would be clearly audible around Bowen Hills this evening :p

As for startup, you'd think won't be until on/after Jan 16, unless they're able to get the people they've already rebooked back onto VA flights.

Otherwise I guess they could always just sell the earlier flights from scratch.
