Me too going there again in August and definitely do not want to experience the debacle like last time. When you see a line from the front lav past the business dividers and then look down the back to see only two people lined up IMHO is poor management of the J class cabin. Travelling with the boss of the house this time and knowing what Mrs PJF is like if that happens there will definitely be some interesting dialogue exchanged with the CSM

Flew MEL-HBA in J this week and the crew were excellent and kept their eye on Economy passengers putting their bags in Business overhead bins and politely asked the pax to take them out and put them in bins above their seat as the bins in 1-3 are for Business passengers only.

Seriously? This is a childish thing VA crew are very good at policing. Qantas crew on the other hand use common sense.

I am usually the last person to board. If there's no room in the overhead bin above my seat and there's room in the overhead bins above business class then guess where my bags where will go? The bags won't be going behind me and if for some reason my bags end up behind me then nobody leaves until I get my bags.

I think the issue is that it happens when there is overhead space above their own seats. Also I have witnessed exactly that happen on a number of occasions where passengers in row 4 place their bags above row 3 on the 738 and then a J passenger having to put their bags above an economy row seat because of this. Some may consider that to be a DYKWIA attitude.That is not common sense and should be policed appropriately. In saying that I agree if there is no where else to put your bag then by all means go for it.

Passengers choose when to board, they choose the level of amenity they want... board early to get overhead space, or board late and have to find space, which may not be co-located with their seat. The latter, IMO, gives two options... either down the back of your ticketed cabin, or gate check.

One of the benefits of premium cabin travel is that you can board when you want, and have overhead space.

By extension of this thought, if your bags are behind you, why would you make everyone else wait for you? I know you have strong views on the demise of manners, surely you wait to retrieve your bag until a time when it is convenient for everyone else?

We were flying Turkish Air domestic in J and I saw some guys put their bags in an overhead space and then walk on. Some more guys arrived, found no room in their over head space, so took the bags out and left them in the aisle and then put their own bags in. Flight attendant picked up the bags, asked everyone in J if it was theirs and then marched down the plane until the bags were claimed and stowed. I got the impression it was a normal occurrence .

We generally travel with minimal hand luggage, so can store under the seat in front, so very rarely use overhead lockers. We avoid row 1 for this reason. It always amuses us to see people in row 1, huffing and puffing because they sometimes have to put their bags over row 3.

i would think your bag/s should go above your seat, or as close as possible to it. This is what i do when on a plane. i would imagine the Y folk who put their bag in the J area, and then disappear into the bowels of the Y area, do so , so that they don't have to carry their bags all the way to their seat ?

Sorry but as you posted above "I am usually the last person to board". If that is the case you may have reasons why you are last. If you do not and you have priority access to board why not board and get the advantage of what priority is all about and getting access to the cabin and overhead bins above your seat first. Problem solved.

There is no sense of entitlement. I board late because I don't want to sit in a cramped seat in a claustrophobic cabin for longer than I need. It's why I like sitting up front and want to get out quick.

Only feel entitled to what I have paid for and that is my allocated seat and space above for my daughters things. I don't think it's fair that 3 rollerboards are taking up an entire overhead bin meant for 6 people. And sometimes the rollerboard belongs to the person across the aisle or rows behind but ends up here as there was no space where they were sitting.

If the airlines can't/won't put the curtain/s back, perhaps people could take their own with them ??

You know, broad brimmed hat, hang an opaque curtain off it, like the beekeepers use. Problem solved, you can't see what is happening around you, after the safety induction of course !!! And life goes on for everyone else around you. Could work, honestly.... seriously...... for real !!!

Erm ... you do realise Qantas mainline domestically allow up to two 7kg 105cm rollaboards and a "personal item".
