Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm *very* close to booking a trip to the US to be on the first flight ex-MEL. Only back of the 'bus though. Currently pricing at around $2400 return. About $700 more than I really want to pay, but still considering it.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.

Anyone else from AFF thinking about getting onboard?

Ex-UK special:
Specials - Special Offers - Australia and New Zealand Specials - Qantas A380 Launch Offer
Fly to Sydney from only £380 on the Qantas A380

To introduce the A380 Qantas is offering a flight to Sydney from £380 inclusive of taxes and fees, available for travel between 18 March and 30 April 2009.
Hurry, this offer is limited to 380 seats!
Offer ends at midnight 17 June, or until sold out.
For those who are unable to access one of these £380 fares, a second offer is available for £380 plus taxes and fees (£744 inclusive of taxes and fees).

Not to nit-pick or anything but flying Premium Economy means you're in the bumpiest part of the aircraft, and last off.... hehe. Not saying that I'd knock it back over a regular Y seat. But food for thought, especially if you want to get off at LAX quickly to get through immigration... ;)

Wonder if theres a single airbridge (because not every gate will be dual) if they'll empty the plane in... F then J then Y+ then Y order. Or will it be F, Y, J, Y+.... the mind boggles! If dual airbridge then less of an issue, but it'll still take Y+ a while to get off one would think.

EDIT: Oh just got beaten above :p I was slow to post hehe.

Maybe that's why they did it for our GB counterparts, and not for their *real* customers... as that kind of irony wouldn't have worked with the AUD

Qantas once again has shafted Australian customers. Thank you Qantas. I'm glad you're showing as much loyalty to us, as we show to the Flying Roo.

I've just looked at EF and there are some interesting seats available.

In y:
Why no 70D? Though it means 71D gets lots of room.
I assume 50 HJK are crew rest, as they don't come up on EF. (row 50 is the first Y row)
50ABC; all of 66; all of 79 (though no window seats there) look pretty good for leg room being at the front of their respective mini cabins.
80A&K allow one to have a window seat and still get out without climbing over others. Could be the seats to look for when travelling alone. Also it looks as though the escape slide doesn't eat into your foot room like on most planes in a window escape row seat.

In w:
39J&K look positively awful. If the QF seat map is right, there are no windows and it looks as though galley or toilets are next to them. I wonder if these two become de facto crew rest.

37,38,39 DEF looks not much better. Especially rows 38 & 39 being right opposite the toilets.

In fact the Y+ experience on A380 may be only redeemed by the fact that you are in your own mini cabin and as long as no Y passengers come up the back stairs, it could be fine. However the objections that others have raised about being in the tail end for the bumps and also possibly the last off could be a real disadvangage.

in j:
Row 24 looks the best, though row 25 is the last row and only just in front of Y+, but one could reasonably expect Y+ to be well behaved.
Row 11 (the first row) seems to be possibly the nosiest as the only toilets for J are in the front.

Anyway, just a few observations.

Must be something there that prevents a seat from being there, but off the top of my head, can't think what it might be!

I just priced up a trip LAX-MEL with Qantas return on the Airbus for $US497.60 as a promo fare booking into O class.

Yep, 1/4 of the price of a MEL-LAX trip. Qantas thinks we are mugs. Perhaps they will release a sale into the Australian market.
