I just did a dummy booking on that site looking for an available First Class seat and there was nothing available (or nothing released) on the A380 as of May 2009.

I believe the A380 'F' class is a separate booking code - perhaps 'R' hasn't yet been loaded into the system?

I see the following for QF94 Monday 3rd November:

- R9 F5 A0 J9 C9 D9 W9 T9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O0

Strange - QF J prices are identical to B747 flights.

F showing no seats available via the normal booking system.

Ahhhhh ... I'm on an inflexible fare MEL/LAX, returning a Monday in November and was preallocated an exit aisle seat 46H for the 744.

Now it's changed to an A380 and I don't know which set to select.

When I click the seat map link from that flight # , I get "The requested object does not exist on this server".

I was not in a hurry to travel on this beastie- looks like I'm stuck. :(

Expert Flyer is returning seat maps.

WHY start at row "50", goes to row 88 - I've changed my 53H seat (nee 46H on 744) to 66H - exit.

Row 79 looks like another exit row, however there's no 79A/K only 79 BCHJ - 80A/K may have extra legroom with no seat in front.

F is rows 1-5 with A, F & K (no 1K)

J is rows 11-13, 16-22,24 & 25 with AB, EF & JK. Exits rows 16 & 24.

WHY+ is rows 34-39 AB/DEF/JK, no 37ABJK, 38ABJK, 39AB. For privacy 39JK look good.

Seems a little odd that they'd split their first A380 over SYD/MEL like that, especially given MEL-LAX needs a 744ER otherwise. One assumes it's purely for marketing purposes so that Sydneysiders and Melbournians both get a small taste and having the A380 flying over both CBD's every few days is a wise marketing tool.

Melbourne - Los Angeles - QF93, 94

Great to See D class in there :D

I guess the question is whether one will be able to upgrade from D to F... I think the process is different between AA and QF in that AA require A availability to upgrade to first from D - not sure how the process works for D->A/F/R.

Hmm I think if all goes according to plan and I get my usual 6 monthly trip to the US in March then I will be locking a A380 flight with a points upgrade to F requested :D

There is business award availability, but nothing in first.

In fact, from what I can see, there is no A class availability - so no AONE* usage!

Hmm... don't see myself on the big fella anytime soon unless they announce additional sectors shortly. Oh well... get to enjoy the 744 while it's still around. Glass half full...:)

20 Oct MEL-LAX QF93 11:15-07:30
20 Oct LAX-MEL QF94 23:40-09:15+2

<Reposition to SYD, but appears that it's not being sold>

24 Oct SYD-LAX QF11 14:05-09:45
24 Oct LAX-SYD QF12 22:30-07:15+2

<Reposition to MEL, but also appears that it's not being sold>

27 Oct MEL-LAX QF93 11:10-07:30

I am somewhat surprised by the amount of time that it is spending on the ground! Though this will no doubt reduce over time.

Would be nice if the repositioning flights were being sold!!

Aha...fooled us...they are flying both SYD and MEL services. I am booked on QF93 in Jan, currently a 744 day. I reckon I might stick with upstairs on the 744 for now. True flat seat on the A380 but essentially a day flight anyway. Will think on it.

Notice the A332's AKL-LAX are gone from November changed to all 744's.

Any idea what the spared 3/4 class 747 will be up to now? (PLEASE BNE-LAX)

I checked a few dates for BNE-LAX and it appears the standard 2 class intl continues to service this route... unfortunately.

Sydney to Buenos Aires will take up some of the 747 capacity.
