Part of the blurb from Qantas (US)

To celebrate the launch of the Qantas A380, you can get any one of the 380 Economy seats from Los Angeles to Sydney or Melbourne for only $380 round-trip. The fares are only valid for departing between 2 November and 8 December 2008 on the Airbus A380 aircraft only.

(++ taxes etc of course).

I've heard that 71D has a trapdoor to the staff bunks, per this post @ Flyertalk:

Does that mean crew are going to be climbing up & down a ladder there to get to the bunks right infront of 71D?

I'm assuming 99D-G is also crew seating only. Otherwise that's the smallest mini-cabin I've ever seen :!:

I think the SQ offering is 1-2-1 - hence the double beds in F for couples (or very close work colleagues). Then thinking about the new F in AA it is 1-2-1 - which means you can swivel your seats. I think for a long haul F if you are travelling with someone it would be good to be sat with the person for some of the time?

Mention on FT that QF A380 specials LAX-SYD-LAX were like ~AU$600rtn all inclusive!! And we OZ based flyers SYD-LAX-SYD ~$2k specials

(last night I got a few days LAX-SYD-LAX on zuji.com.sg for SG$770 inclusive but all gone today)

It's the same problem/blessing (depending on which way you look at it) with the new Cathay F suites.

Though Cathay has the same problem with their new J as well - one of the various reasons it has been very heavily criticised.

Rumour has it that CX are reviewing their new J product and possibly considering removing it at some point.

Sent some feedback to Qantas today regarding their decision to not offer any sale fares ex-Australia for the A380 launch, yet offer fares at ~75% discount to Australian prices ex LAX/LHR. Will be interesting to see what (if anything) I get back from them. I understand how airfares work, and see huge discounts all the time ex US, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia etc, but their A380 launch overseas was just a joke.

The sad thing is that most of the Australian newspapers lapped it up as nothing unusual (and "huge discounts for the A380" type articles), rather than Aussies being ripped off by the Red Rat. They are so easily misled.

Sample articles from Australian based media:

I presume it's an exit only, if their entry to their rest area is blocked for whatever reason. Not entirely sure though.

Yep, also belive the 99D-G is for crew seating. Lots of curtains, small area etc.

Most major publications probably get a complimentary seat or two on the first flight, so don't expect any Qantas hate to appear in the news :)

So its some kind of emergency escape hatch?

I wonder what will happen with the J Lounge area on the upper deck - it looks like a couch and area for pax to congregate - will the LOTFAP try to prevent people from using it when flying there?

Arent all flights to the US meant to have no pax blocking any walkways - not just in view of the coughpit?

Not sure if this has been answered already, but why are the AC seats in J slightly forwards on zone F?

Seems odd to design the galley that way.

/shrug
Its because the lav in front of 16JK is a handicap facility and hence larger than the standard lav in front of 16AB. It would then be deemed better to have the extra space at the emergency exit door where it could assist lots of people in the case of an evacuation, rather than some extra space in front of 16AB where it only benefits 2 people.

Not sure - but the lounge area isnt really a walkway to anywhere - it is just like a little seating area.

But that is where the terrorists could congregate and finalise their evil plans ... over a nice glass of Pinot Grigio...

As I understood the regulation, they don't want any groups of more than two people gathering (& plotting fiendish things presumably) - that applies equally at the back of a plane or at the front. I recall flying the first week that regulation came in - the pilot made a joke about it obviously thinking it as ridiculous as I do.
