So, do you apply for the credit card online and then call up and quote the code EB to get the fee free?

I opened the free interest savings account to avoid the annual fee for first year (same as Westpac cards).

Once you opened the account how did you get the offer, i can't see anything on internet banking like i did Westpac

oops sorry, missed the posts after this one. I have the answer

UPDATE.

I applied online on the day that it was listed as $0 fee.

Final approval took a while as I had to email various pay slips, tax returns etc.

However finally picked up the card yesterday and info pack arrived in the mail today.
Info pack states that first card fee of $279 will be charged 12 months after first use on the card.

Do that to me means confirmation of first year free.

I did not open any bank accounts etc. ie The card is my only activity with St George.

Is it called an "interest savings account" or is it the Maxi Saver, or something else? Have looked at the St George website but not sure what the "free interest savings account" is.

Can someone please confirm:

1. Set up Maxi saver/ interest savings account online or in branch?
2. Apply for card via tel or in branch
3. Get approved and pay no fee?

Is this correct? Thanks

I'm interested in this card, but will hold to see what the Qantas credit card has to offer when details are unveiled on Monday.

I just applied, initially I went into a branch however the guy there said he couldn't guarantee i'd get the promotion. I called up later and mentioned the original promotion and how they pulled the first year free overnight. mentioned i called at the time and was told if i opened an account i could get the first year free as originally advertised when quoted code EB. guy asked supervisor and was all good.

I called and mentioned the code "EB". Was told that for everyday banking customers, the first year annual fee is waived. You can apply for the card when you log in to internet banking, too. I was told that if I did so (apply through internet banking) I would likely get the first year free, but the person said some notes would be put on my file to reverse the first year annual fee in the event I was charged.

Thanks for the very helpful reply. Everyday banking comes with $5/ month fees if you do not deposit some of your salary to the account.

What type of account did you set up? Thanks.

Incentive Saver

Thanks for that. I have applied for savings account and will update on credit card application.

I am already a StG customer and used their internet 'chat line'. They initially said the free 1st year offer was closed. I say I understood that 'existing customers could quote code EB and get the 1st year free'. After referring to supervisor, he agreed and told me to call StG and quote code EB.

I did this and application went thru (after operator checked with their supervisor again).

In short no problems if you go thru the 13 33 30 number and quote code EB.

So you go to a Bank of Melbourne branch to apply?

Whats the catch with opening a new St George account?
Fees? Edit : $0 with Incentive Saver and no other linked account required?
Min monthly deposit? Edit: Nil required?
What account do you open? Edit: Incentive saver https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/bank-accounts/savings-accounts/incentive-saver
