I used to love Qantas food. My travel companions looks delicious. I have been Vegatarian the last year, never had a good meal yet. Disgusting. Always give me margarine, although I still eat butter and seafood. Wholemeal bread! Horrid gluten, dry snacks. I have had several upgrades. The curry I got was ok. Amazes me with upgrades they have always given me a vegatarian meal but never serve me a entree or dessert but do offer me both, but they are never initially offered to me.

No snide remarks, but I feel you are made out to be a second class citizen in being vegetarian. Glad I feed up in the Q club before boarding.

I'm not sure it's reasonable to expect Qantas to know that a vegetarian wants to eat seafood and animal products. That's inconsistent with being a vegetarian.

Qantas can't make 150 different meals for every pax on board. A number of dietary requirements have to be mixed into one special meal.

I hear what your saying, some of thier catergories of vegetarian does have seafood. Butter yes that may well be out of the norm but do you know how many chemicals are in margarine, I wouldnt expect a nut butter. I do expect an eatable meal and. unfortunately yet to have a decent vegetarian meal.

No vegetarian categories contain seafood, as they would not be, by definition, vegetarian.

Lunch on Sunday's 839 was a choice of chicken or ..... chicken!!

Mrs BD opted for the "Caesar salad with Chicken", which turned out to be more a potato salad with minimum chicken. I had to act as UN peacekeeper as Mrs BD threatened to storm the meal of our companion in the D-seat whose salad had 3 times the amount of chicken (he had 6 pieces to her 2) ... can QF catering not do something to prevent food wars breaking out on board??

I opted for the hot "Chinese-Style Chicken". Nice and tender, but the only real taste was one of chilli (which I'm not adverse to).

Students of International Affairs will be pleased to learn that aid missions of chinese chicken were delivered to the aggrieved nation in the F-seat.

All was well with the round of Mars Bar Ice-creams delivered 90 mins before landing in MEL.

The Lamb Shepherd's Pie I had the other day was nice.

I was always led to believe that Shepherd's Pie was only made with lamb (or mutton) ... hence the name.

When I was growing up, we'd sometimes have the same dish but made with beef ... this we called Cottage Pie.

Probably just a pommie-thing!!

BD

We had the Thai green chicken curry the other week from MEL to BNE and both my wife & I were impressed with both the quality and taste.

My flying patterns have changed so this was my first experience with the boxed dinners but a big thumbs up from me!

Actually it was always (originally) a cottage pie. The original recipe was basically a way to use up roasted meat of any description. Usually mutton or beef, cottage pie was topped with mash. Called cottage pie because it was a "poorer" dish. Sometime in the late 19th century the "Shepherds" pie appeared , and yes it was assumed if mutton was involved then shepherds were involved somewhere along the line. But frankly it doesn't matter what name or ingredients you use. I use a mix of beef and lamb ,
Here endeth the lesson :-)

Had spepherd's pie on Friday night. A little bland but edible.

And then chicken curry and rice on Sunday night.

Pity the same passed for dinner on the return. Only a half full 717 and the crew offered up extras

The Mars Bar ice cream makes everything better IMO.

Morning flight Per-Mel suffered a box from hell. It was a rubber egg and some overheated cough that was supposedly beans and corn cake. OMG, I am scarred for life, never again will I partake of a QF dom breakfast if this is the cough they serve up. Provided feedback today, bet it makes no difference. From now on it's pancakes in the QP and nothing on board for me.

Perhaps the most disgusting thing I've been served on a Qantas Flight - tonight's QF1506. OK, technically this is QantasLink ... or National Jet Systems or Uncle Tom Cobbly and All Jet systems Ltd ... but at the end of the day it's the Qantas brand which is being hurt.

This parcel of glug was even more inedible than it looks; a pocket of hot slime which delivered a hit of sodium so strong I checked the label: 83% of the recommended daily intake. I had visions of "alien" and a fear that any drips would not only wreck my trousers, but burn it's way through my leg, the floor, through the baggage hold and out into Bass Strait.

So poor was this offering that the offer of 2nds was refused by everyone as far back as row 14 in which I was seated.

The positive: Consistently for QantasLink, the crew also offered a 2nd bottle of wine on clean-up (are you listening Qantas Domestic??)

I didn't think to take a picture but on a rare "Dash" from SYD to CBR recently received a quiche in a box that was very decent, and impressively low in sodium.

I had that last week SYD-PER. The bouncy egg, a rasher of bacon that was edible, and the corn mash that tasted like cardboard. I also managed a few beans hiding in the corner. Was glad I had brekkie in the lounge beforehand.
