QF Boxed Dinners

Sadly it wasn't me buying the fare, and I was in no position to dictate.

Getting off-topic here, so I'm going to drag it back: someone mentioned the pre-ordering is not available to all fare classes. I will go have a look at my booking now. :)
You can only pre-select your meal from seven days before departure.

Are the food choices better if you pre-order instead of waiting for on-board?

Hi suze2000,

The offerings are *wider* and therefore you're far more likely to get something you would eat rather than just dismissing the onboard offering completely and buying from the terminal (which is what you were advocating). Personally, I've not used the QF option but did use MH's "Book the Chef" (or whatever their equivalent is called - I get confused between their's and SQ's) but found that I actually enjoy the "element of surprise" that going with the standard onboard brings ... just call me old fashioned.

Of course, none of this is relevant if you discover - once underway - that QF have forgotten to load your pre-booked meal!!

Regards,

BD

On pre-ordering, and this is not just QF related, but I've seen enough instances of pre-selected meals:
- not being loaded;
- no record of the pre-selection; and
- people departing from their pre-selection - sometimes even invited by FAs to do so - resulting in running out of other options so those further back have less choice.

I have used pre-select in J on QF and it has always worked, but once the FA had no knowledge of my selection. Fortunately I've been high enough in the status/cabin to always get my choice on longer international flights.

Flew SYD-MEL on a dinner flight on Saturday. So SO glad I had a burrito before I got on. It was some sort of cheesy pasta with sundried tomato concoction. The pasta was so overcooked it slipped off the fork, there was almost no cheese and the tomatoes were flavourless.
I had the vegetarian pasta tonight on BNE-SYD flight and from memory this is now the second or third time in the past few weeks. Fairly bland but the salt helped. The taste wasn't that great but finished the meal as the lounge food was nothing special either.

The boxed dinners were quite good at the start but the meal choices/catering has slipped the past few months.
