QF Boxed Dinners

My experience with the boxed dinners has been good so far. The stand out (so far) has been the fish and chips, and the stir fried hokkien noodles with beef.

I don't think the presentation is that bad, but then again, this is airline food we're talking about. The only time you'll get good-looking food is when you're in Business.

Agreed on both counts. The Asian chicken with rice is alright too.

The pasta and cold salad type dinners are pretty average though.

The pasta boxes I have tried so far have been a hit and miss although the salads have been consistently good (especially loved the quinoa and bean salad with teriyaki chicken).

Had a delicious smoked salmon with brown rice and quinoa salad on my flight from MEL to SYD tonight.

The other (hot) choice was banger and mash.

Very nice salad option last week on MEL-BNE

Falafel, hummus, roast capsicum, hot chilli.
All placed on pita bread, yum!

Beef Ragu and spaghetti would have to be one of the tastiest meals I have had on any economy flight.

Considering this was on SYD-BNE flight earlier in the evening makes it even more special.

The bangers and mash was good.

+1 !
I tried the bangers & mash with peas last night & ill have to say this was mighty good!
The onion Gravy was certainly something better than out of a packet & really added to the flavour.
Yum.

BNE-MEL last night and Mrs Pyffii had the chicken salad with rice and was very impressed whilst I had the tortellini which was very tasty and then had proper sized Lindt Chocolate Truffles at the end...All in all a very enjoyable meal so well done Qantas:)

New one for me on last night's 696 ... potato salad with smoked salmon. The hot choice was the shepherds pie (which I've had before and found really bland).
Potato was the usual inconsistent result: some pieces falling apart, others almost raw; salmon was a nice salty contrast to the (I think) mustard seed mayo. Actually wasn't too bad. Favourite "salad" still the falafel and hummus wrap Boomy posted a photo of on the previous page.

The salmon had better colour than has come out in this snap ....

Can anyone advise me what boxed breakfasts they serve there over east. Breakfast in Y on the KTA-PER route last time consisted over a sausage roll type concoction made up of (apparently), bacon egg spinach and hash brown. To say it was disgusting is an understatement. I checked with the CSM and said this flight is supposed to have breakfast only to be told..that is the breakfast we are serving. Surely you get something better than this over there on a 2hr flight?

In actual fact, for lunch and dinner as well, have never seen any boxed meals on this route ever. Usually just a pie of some sort. (which most are quite good actually)

They had a bacon and egg wrap on my breaky flight this week. First time I've seen a hot meal for a very long time. Cereal and milk was also available.

Tuesday BNE-SYD ... Bircher/Yogurt self mix with a side of dried cranberries

I tried this for the first time on a flight from MEL to SYD a couple of weeks ago and found this to be good.

Have to say mine looks slightly better as the falafels were whole pieces
