Re: Downgraded from Business Class

Thread now closed. :(. And here I was thinking that "no news is good news". :(

What a bummer.

Email from Qantas tonight saying if I earn 1650 Q points with partners during December, receive bonus 1,500 points. (Woolies, David Jones etc)
Just curious, anyone else get the email, and did you have the same spend request?

There's a thread about it

I've tested positive for campylobacter also, after a trip to Bali.

<snip>

The symptoms of this illness are rather unpleasant. :(

Indeed. I've had campylobacter twice, once while pregnant and I suspect from BA J food SIN-SYD. Really quite horrid.

Right. Have survived the kidlet's two end of year dance concerts today. We seem to have lost a pair of ballet tights (brand new, only worn today ), but could be worse.

She danced fairly well for someone who has limtid sense of beat, and enjoyed being in stage. She loves being on stage, just got to find the right medium for her performances!

Now we can start getting really ready to fly to LHR on Thursday. ;)

I want to make a big hat tip to DHL express; I got my tax return refund last Monday, so ordered myself a new camera from DWI as an early Christmas present, to replace the DSLR I'd had to hand over to my ex-wife as part of my property settlement this time last year. The online order was processed, and I was sent a tracking number; the kit was collected in Hong Kong 5:47pm Wed. I was able to track it boarding a CX flight to PER on Thursday PM, and it cleared customs in Perth early Friday AM.
Now here's the real good part. I got a phone call at 10:07am Friday from the DHL delivery driver, asking if I was home, as there was no answer from the front door. I wasn't, I was at work. He asked if he could he leave it around the back, because otherwise he could not come back till next Tuesday. I told him, sorry the side gate is locked. I then asked if the garage door for the house across the road was open? "Yes" Can a neighbour sign for me? "Yes" Well if you go to that house, I am sure my neighbour, Mrs M, will do just that. "No problem" he said.

The thing is, he didn't just do that for me, but 3 mins later, the DHL driver phoned me back, and confirmed everything was okay, and that my neighbour had my package safely.

So not only did DHL get my parcel from HKG to PER in under two days, they went out of their way to make sure I got it safely, and not have to wait across the weekend to have it delivered.

Brilliant stuff! Bravo DHL!

Must be a fabulous driver.

Lets just say my DHL experience doesn't mimic that.

(Sat at home all day awaiting delivery, at 1630 called them and was told "driver left card at 1130". So basically he/she couldn't be stuffed and just stuck a card in the letterbox.)

Don't believe there has been a similar incident in first class cricket, which makes it all the more surreal.

There was a similar incident in the 90s. Raman Lamba a retired Indian cricketer, post retirement was captiain / coach for a domestic bangladesh team. One ball before lunch he decided field at short leg without a helmet, he was hit on the forehead by a full blooded pull shot. He died 3 days later aged 38.

Plenty of non first class incidents including two last year, one each in South Africa and Pakistan

The real surprise for me though was the Living Room at the SGS which is a bar and jazz club that you can order food from the SGS restaurants comes in at 8 on TA.
I am surprised that people pay attention to TripAdvisor ratings.

I look at the ratings but what I look at the most is who is providing the ratings and the types of complaints.

Same experience from multiple companies and I operate out of home, 1.5m from front door!

I actually just look at the terrible reviews and see if there is a common complaint or something that is just silly eg saying a restaurant is terrible just because you couldn't get a reservation.

Same here. The negative reviews, and the reasons why, are the ones to look at. Unless, if there are thousands of reviews, and they are all good! That is a safe bet.
