I believe you are correct ... Intra Japan is only referred to under the "Codeshares" banner.

Ok I was definitely wrong. I've found intra-japan under "Short international Flights". earning (points/SC) from DiscY to First: 300/10 450/10 600/20 750/20 850/20 J900/40 1050/40 F1200/40

So Jetstar starter plus will earn 450/10 and I think Starter Max earns 600/20

I think you are being very optimistic if you think getting a QFF upgrade is low hanging fruit!!! (especially if you are looking for 4 at once). Good luck though.

2 for 2 on international.....heaps on Domestic.

Dec last year - 4 x QF11 J > F

March last year - 4 x QF1 Y > J

But How did you get those distance groupings? Do they match to the regions?

No...sorry...you still need 2 tables for International QF flights. The region based one and then the distance based or "all other flights". Have not crunched numbers to see if the zones line up. I suspect some do though - becuase a quick check of East Coast USA-West Coast USA gives you the same "zone" as LAX-JFK. I'll have a go at putting the permeatations into a spreadsheet to see if the distances work.

Keep in mind that I don't think QF intend the examples under the distance based system to be definitive. For example, "Short International" and "Mid-Range International" both include "intra-USA". I would ignore the routing examples and focus only on the distance - unless of course you are dealing with a specific Route-Based earn flight under the "Region" table.

Reposting my 'Slightly Simpler' SC table that was on other thread.

Trick Question: Can someone tell me how many points and SC's I as a WP would earn on a Jetstar Plus Pack travelling on GK (Jetstar Japan) flight number and metal between cough and NRT?

I calculate a distance of 584 miles. So 10 SCs and base of 450 points plus status bonus of 450 points??

What am i missing? The new tables published by QF yesterday seem pretty straight forward now?

And just to pick up on an earlier point - the partner earn for AA in first class (YUPs) seems relatively the same right (except for flights under 750 miles). Or have I read those wrong?

What about the minimum points guarantee or status bonus? When I look at the simpler fairer QF website it says those are earned on JQ/GK

EDIT: But would you keep the South Africa/HNL ones under "special cases" though?

Didn't see either as special cases as they fit into the distance bands, and there is no alternate oneworld carrier where earn is reduced.

BA J LHR-ATH (GCM 1510 mi) assume would fall under "other" @ 80 SC

BA J IST-LHR (GCM 1565 mi) would it fall under "other" @ 80 SC or UK/Middle East @ 60 SC ?

Believe both are correct.
There was a linked page on the pre-30June site that had region definitions but it has disappeared and isn't in the T&Cs, but don't think IST was defined as in Middle East - think it was more designed to capture those transiting DOH rather than DXB

Sorry. I thought your footnote was suggesting that the distances were a bit fungible on routes like HNL.

Yes and no...I still think Qantas' insistence on using terms like "Short" and "Mid" and "Long" are pointless and add a layer of complexity. You still need to look up the miles for the zone anyway so why even have the names???

The idea of these tables is to get it back to a miles based system where possible and only use the region tags where actaully required.

the DXB-SEAsia/NthAfrica is fungible on some very limited routes (as noted).
If JQ/QF offered a BNE-HNL it would be bumped up a little, but existing SYD/MEL-HNL are correct as is SYD-JNB

Oh. I'm confused. I thought there was no need to look up the miles anymore? So that if I was flying to Asia I just get whatever is in the Asia zone, regardless of how many miles I actually fly?

Thanks. Trying to work out if I should credit to BAEC or QFF. BAEC TP for flights under 2,000 mi isn't the best @ 40TP ..... looks like I'd be better to delay the move over to BAEC and continue to credit to QFF (have some juicy MASA's in the pipeline) and maintain QF WP until March 2017.

Hidden in the detail of the most of the non-region based (i.e. domestic and "all other QF flights") is the reality that it's still mileage based. So yes, if it's specifically covered, you don't need to worry about miles, but if it's not, you do.

Also, the layout of the region table I uploaded seeks to group the regions to make it easier to read and digest. Qantas lists East Coast AU to [insert destination here] 5 separate times. I have grouped them to make it easier to see if you're flight falls into a region. With the QF tables, you need to read the whole table to ascertain if your origin and destination are covered. Under the table I uploaded, you look for your departure point (e.g. East Coast AU) and then you can see all relevant arrivals (per the QF table) listed alongside. Again - this only applies for the regions that QF specifically mentions. So some of my simplification is just about layout. Listing East Coast AU 5 times and not even one after the other, but spread out over the 12 line table is just silly...and IMHO not the way most people process information.

I didn't take this approach for the domestic flights because the examples that QF lists are just that, examples! It's still a mileage based system for Domestic flights.

This is where I struggle with the "Simpler, fairer" SC Partner earn. I have ATH-LHR booked on BA in J, and that could be 80 SC for 1509 miles. I also have HKG-HEL booked on AY, also 80SC but for 4857 miles!

Simpler because EK doesn't do Greeks to London
