Hi all,

AstroDamo and I are attempting to book an ASA in U from LAX - AKL via BNE.

When the agent went to book it on the weekend, the system wouldn't return a quote. He couldn't figured out why as the route was available. He escalated it to another support desk.

Just got a voicemail an hour ago (was in a meeting ><) from him stating that the system analysis team confirmed that it cannot be booked as it commences outside Australia.

I'm fairly sure that is incorrect. Can anyone confirm either way before I call back and ask for it to be escalated again?

Cheers.

I have JASA's and FASA's booked where travel is commencing from London. Some booked before, and some booked after it all became simpler and fairer. :)

I have two JASA's commencing out of OZ.

One is ex NZ and was booked just 5 weeks ago after things became "simpler and fairer"! (It was charged in AUD).

Hmmm has anyone booked one that both commences and terminates outside Australia? Wonder if that's the issue. Still, all 3 agents I have spoken to when following this up over the past week have said the fare is listed as available, the system just wont provide a quote or go any further.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Back in the pre-enhancement days when you could book these online, I was able to book an LAX-BNE via SYD. LAX to SYD was in 'P' and SYD to BNE was in 'U'. This was booked as a MASA and points and SCs posted no problems. I was also able to book a 'Z' class MASA over the phone post enhancement from LAX to BNE direct.

So I think they are feeding you boloney.

Perhpas drop the AKL sector and see if you have any luck.

Yes, 5 weeks ago AKL-xSYD-LAX.

84K points and AUD664 all up.

Am currently doing a JASA (original) AKL-SYD-LAX-MEL-AKL.

Called up premium this morning. As it turned out, after the agent left me a message this was looked into further and they have found the issue seems to be that the pricing hadn't been loaded for that particular fare/route (LAX-BNE-AKL in U). Should be fine once the pricing is loaded so hopefully should be all good in the next few days.

Ironically, while I was on the phone, @QantasAirways replied to me on twitter "confirming" that ASAs cannot be booked commencing outside Australia, linking me to the ASA info page.

The page in fact says any available fare on Qantas or Jetstar can be booked. The only condition that mentions commencement is:

The ability to redeem taxes, fees and carrier charges with Qantas Points for travel entirely within Australia and selected international flights (commencing in Australia) is only available when booking at qantas.com and ‘Search Qantas & Partner Classic Awards' is not selected

Thanks everyone for your help and info.

I've experienced the pricing problem for two PASA's made in the last month SYD-LHR & LHR-SYD booked around 3 weeks apart and on the day the seats were released.

Are your bookings right on the fringe of release date?

Yes we attempted to book them a couple of days after they were released (they are for early May 2015).

Not particularly surprising that there was no pricing as LAX-BNE-AKL is probably not exactly a popular route in U, however am a little disappointed in the misinformation. At least he did reserve the seats for us so not a big drama so long as they can sort it out in due course.

Same here - the seats were reserved. It took around 10 days for the first one to be ticketed.

Thanks for your patience while we sort this out with our pricing team. I've replied to AstroDamo's private message regarding this matter too.

In the interim, I've identified the original consultant and have personally discussed this with them in detail. Apologies for the confusion and miscommunication on this occasion.

Good news, pricing issue has been sorted, and now have a quote. Just need to confer with AstroDamo and confirm.

Not Popular?

Hah! I have only booked a dozen or so [AKL|LAX]-x[MEL|SYD|BNE]-[LAX|AKL] over the last few years.

Here's the "Business" routing rules that have been filed for several years (basically since QF AKL/LAX bit the dust):
Code:
MAP CONSTRUCTED LEFT TO RIGHT AND RIGHT TO LEFT
 1. LAX-SYD/MEL/BNE-SYD/PPT/MEL/BNE-AKL
 2. LAX-SYD/MEL/BNE-SYD/MEL/BNE-AKL
 3. LAX-SYD/MEL/BNE-AKL

I am having the same issue with a booking ex AKL. Mushion22 was there any specific solution which I can reference which will help the call centre team get a price for the route and enable to book my MASA?
