Woolworths Qantas Credit Card Canceled letter.

I'm feeling rather naughty this morning.... paying both PAYG & GST instalments via the ATO portal on this card, perhaps I will either see a cancellation letter next week, or more immediate even have a declined transaction later today if they suspend my account :shock: But at a 0.48% fee on this mastercard, how can one refuse temptation...! Fee is deductible, but the Amex percentage is ridiculous and not an option for my 1:1 Amex card collection...
Note: A card payment fee[SUP]*[/SUP] applies:
  • 0.48% for VISA and MasterCard payments and
  • 1.25% for American Express payments.

You should be OK. I've paid several BAS/PAYG amounts on the card, about $5,000 each time. Haven't had a problem.
 
How not to ask for your annual fee to be waived (which I failed miserably to do today, a few days before my annual fee fell due). Verbatim transcript:

NC: Hi, I would like to cancel my Woolworths Qantas credit card.
After being transferred to cancellations
WOW CC person: Why do you want to cancel the card?
NC: I like the card a lot but am currently mostly using other cards that have a higher QFF earn rate per $1 spent.
WOW CC person: Can I offer you 1000 QFF points for you to keep the card open?
NC: Thanks, tempting, but I have a lot of QFF points right now.
NC waits for next offer to come, thinking it will be a fee waiver :cool:
WOW CC person: I'll just put you on hold for a moment
NC thinks that perhaps the supervisor needs to approve the fee waiver
WOW CC person: Done, Mr NC, the card is cancelled.
NC: What ! Ahh, actually, I'll take the 1000 QFF points and keep the card!!
WOW CC person: I'll check, please hold.
NC thinks that he may be an idiot.
WOW CC person: Sorry sir, too late. The card is cancelled. We will post your closing statement shortly. Have a nice day.
NC knows that he is an idiot.

So, the moral of my feeble attempt at getting an annual fee waiver is: get in first and ask for it. If they say no, say thanks anyway I'll keep the card open. Or you'll be one card lighter in your wallet, like me! :( :oops:
 
My +1 got the fee waived by saying upfront that she would like to cancel the card as she did not feel the annual fee was worth keeping the card...was immediately put through to cancellatons where they offered to waive the fee if she kept the card. Being greedy, she then asked whether the fee could be permanently waived and was told that it couldn't but she was welcome to call back in a year's time to ask for the fee to be waived again ;)

When I called I was blunt, basically saying I loved the card but was not going to pay the fee, all up to them from there.....

Fee waived and will do the same next year...!
 
Well we got our letter yesterday.:( Yes I used it for business/personal use, just like I have for all my other cards over many years.
You win some, you lose some, but it was mighty good whilst it lasted. :oops: Now off to find some other cards to play the game with.

In the effort to work out who they are targeting, is it possible for you to post a brief summary of your usage such as monthly spend for both personal & business, and a very brief summary of business spending (i.e how little or how much and how often...?)

Keep it brief and only the basics so we don't track you down he he :D

Edit: So who is keeping count of how many of these are being sent out to AFF'ers...?

And I guess you made a squillion points before they caught you in their net... at that spend level, that's around 1.8 million QFF p.a which is really high when you look at their target market for this card. Interesting to know how many points you harvested until they caught you...? Good luck to you anyway... :D

Well just change to the business card and play by the rules.
 
It will be interesting to see how this pans out. I put about $25,000 a month through the card. MYOB tells me that since 1st February in dollar terms 73.2% of this was business use. This would be obvious to anyone looking; there were others than were business but impossible to pick from consumer items, e.g., VicRoads). In numbers of transactions it was 10.8% business.

My strategy now is to put even small amounts, e.g., the newspaper, through the card, and in future to put BAS through AMEX Platinum (despite the heavy fee).

I'm putting hefty business tax payments through mine (1.5x the limit last month), but I'm also deliberately using it as my primary personal card as well to see if that helps "evade detection". I guess it depends upon how they flag the cards for review - by manually reviewing cards with very high spends, by looking at the merchants it's used for, etc.

We shall see... but at the end of the day I don't care too much if they cancel my card, so I'm willing to wing it.
 
Just received revised conditions of use. Looks as if Woolworths may be tightening up as one additional clause states, "Your account must only be used for lawful personal, domestic or household use. We reserve the right to determine what transactions constitute lawful personal, domestic or household use".

Hope you write back and tell them that you consider paying your personal tax liability in accordance with the requirements of the tax act to be a lawful personal use.

AAhh...there's the problem. The great bulk of the tax payments I've made in the past (but no more) have been employee PAYG and GST.

Besides in my experience there is no point whatsoever in writing to WEDR. They just don't act on correspondence.
 
I got the letter to, interesting the reference to payments to gambling sites being treated as cash advances from July 1. Did everybody get this letter or does it just mean some are targetted from July 1 and make sure you have a 2nd card in your wallet after July 1, Iv'e also got the Jetstar card
 
Everyone got the letter....its not targeted......the terms and conditions have changed for all

Yes, thats good advice.

Had a weird experience with the EDR in SYD over the weekend. A vendors computerised card machine wanted my address details and wouldn't allow the transaction to continue until I supplied. Not keen on this so I used a different card which was fine.
