Latest Qantas News

Effective 24 October 2008, for travel from 1 January 2008, Qantas will withdraw the QF marketed flight (with QF flight number) operated by British Airways in the World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy) cabin between Sydney, Singapore, Bangkok and London.

All passengers currently booked in either W or T class on British Airways operated flights QF301, QF302, QF319, QF320, QF3345 and QF3346 will be rebooked onto Qantas operated services at nil penalty.

Hmmm, looks like WT+/Y+ are will no longer be part of the JSA. BA's product being an inferior one to QF Y+.

It's just like when BA first brought out NCW, J fares on the Kangaroo route became disassociated from the JSA due to Qantas' J product (Dreamtime) being the inferior one.

This should make JohnK happy as I would expect BA WT+ costs to come down ...

I would expect BA WT+ costs to come down;
I imagine this is the primary motivating factor. I think BA (and Virgin Atlantic for that matter) is in absolute strife. Hence why the gossip "out there" has turned BA into a take over target, rather than predator!

BA can't afford to turn up its nose in the market today, in quite the same way Qantas does. An empty seat on BA, is one that should have been filled with pricing mechanisms!

I would definitely be interested in booking BA WT+ again if BA revises the cost of the airfare to the old level. In my opinion the BA WT+ product is OK and good value for money.

+1. Makes for a viable MR to BKK/SIN. :)

Personally if I were to pay the amount QF wants for whY+, I might as well stump up a bit more and go J on one of the cheaper carriers.

Re: Withdrawal of Qantas Selling Code on the British Airways World Traveller Plus Cab

I have been researching return airfares from BKK and SIN and noticed the BA WT+ and QF premium economy airfares for BKK-SYD are well over A$3,500 almost 3 times the price of economy. I cannot understand why anyone would pay that much for premium economy when you can get business class for <A$5,000.

Re: Withdrawal of Qantas Selling Code on the British Airways World Traveller Plus Cab

One can only hope that if BA drop their Y+ pricing that QF might follow suit.....

Re: Withdrawal of Qantas Selling Code on the British Airways World Traveller Plus Cab

I used to love flying WT+ to SIN and BKK as well, it was a great way to re-qualify Plat. Even though it's an older product, I'd still consider it before flying QF's PE considering the price differential.

So I await news of the price slide...but only wish I had a good enough excuse to take the flights.

Re: Withdrawal of Qantas Selling Code on the British Airways World Traveller Plus Cab

At the original prices for WT+ they were a great deal, but at $3500 i think i would just spend the extra for J. If the prices for WT+ drop again i would happly fly them.

Interesting that its being removed, possibly just to avoid confusion when people book a QF flight number expecting to get QF Y+ could be some other reason ?

Considering that Qantas are charging $4522 for the same route in Feb and $5272 for the dates of this BA promotion, $3550 seems good value.

The Oz/Asia sales are sure to appear soon enough.

I would be looking for Asia-Oz specials. Hopefully they will be in place in time for me to purchase the next return ticket or I could be lucky and BA may release some WT+ specials before I purchase this return ticket.

Re: Withdrawal of Qantas Selling Code on the British Airways World Traveller Plus Cab

Does anybody have any recent experience with purchasing an upgrade from World Traveller to World Traveller Plus on BA flights ex-Australia? I'm travelling to Bangkok tomorrow, returning on Thursday, and would be interested in purchasing an upgrade to WT+ on the return leg. If so, what is a reasonable price to pay?

Similar to the Star Class upgrades for JQ, will QF award WT+ points for a purchased upgrade?
