According to reports, coronavirus vaccine is entering its final phase of testing and very soon we will have millions of coronavirus vaccine to be rolled out, hopefully from September.

By then, should a coronavirus vaccine is available, will you vaccinate it?

Personally speaking, as a 30 year old young person, I will not vaccinate myself with Coronavirus, because:

1. It is just a small flu for young people, we won't die;
2. The vaccine is rushed and I cannot guarantee if I vaccinate myself, I will be immune to Coronavirus and not get killed by the vaccine;
3. The coronavirus vaccine is just a step to reopen our borders so that we can travel overseas again.

I am not anti-vaxier, however I only think that Coronavirus vaccine is just a political ticket for politicians to explain to the public that they can now open the international borders again and ease off travel bubbles.

What do you think?

Absolutely. However I trust those who desire to wait don’t have a delay impact on those who are happy to proceed forthwith. It was the “we should wait” that prompted my response. Those who want to wait should do so but not think to prevent those who don’t.

My Relatives in UK have had the first and second round are very relieved.
Pushka, do they know what vaccine they were given?

Did you read what the Pfizer spokesman said in the link.It was also on the Tassie news tonight.

So it seems they expected this to happen in the frail elderly.
An episode of vomiting certainly has the effect of accelerating the death in frail individuals.Often by an aspiration pneumonia.

It is the Norwegian authorities who are saying other countries have had deaths.I see no reason to doubt them.
I have read the Swedes use a different method to everyone else in counting deaths that is considered inaccurate and possibly under-quotes the reality.

The Pfizer one which was the only one given in UK at that time.

Get a grip folks..vaccines kill people everyday

Doctors in Norway have been told to conduct more thorough evaluations of very frail elderly patients in line to receive the Pfizer BioNTec vaccine against covid-19, following the deaths of 23 patients shortly after receiving the vaccine.

“It may be a coincidence, but we aren’t sure,” Steinar Madsen, medical director of the Norwegian Medicines Agency (NOMA), told The BMJ. “There is no certain connection between these deaths and the vaccine.”

The agency has investigated 13 of the deaths so far and concluded that common adverse reactions of mRNA vaccines, such as fever, nausea, and diarrhoea, may have contributed to fatal outcomes in some of the frail patients.

“There is a possibility that these common adverse reactions, that are not dangerous in fitter, younger patients and are not unusual with vaccines, may aggravate underlying disease in the elderly,” Madsen said. “We are not alarmed or worried about this, because these are very rare occurrences and they occurred in very frail patients with very serious disease,” he emphasised. “We are now asking for doctors to continue with the vaccination, but to carry out extra evaluation of very sick people whose underlying condition might be aggravated by it.” This evaluation includes discussing the risks and benefits of vaccination with the patient and their families to decide whether or not vaccination is the best course.

More than 20 000 doses of the vaccine have been administered over the past few weeks in Norway and around 400 deaths normally occur among care home residents every week

So we have a national wide election, is there anything stopping just getting everyone vaccinated on the same day,
Yes I know all the doctors and nurses will get vaccinated first but then we could do everyone at once.

Logistics. The sheer logistics of getting thousands of doses stored ready for for 'injection day' means it simply isn't possible.

Pre-planning for an election basically starts the day after the previous election, ready for the government to announce the date. As it gets closer to the day venues are reviewed and if suitable hired, poll workers employed, papers printed distributed etc.

Lots of pre-poll voting to spread the load and prevent people from standing in line too long and myriad other matters to consider.

There will also be some people who for various reasons should not have the vaccine either that day or may be even never. They will have to be examined and then counselled about how to proceed and so on.

Vaccination will be a several month long program to ensure it is done safely and properly.

For what it is worth Pakistan have fully authorised the use of the Oxford vaccine.

We can, and should delay for as long as it takes to get it right
I think we should get it right, but we need to balance that with the economy, as we cant keep lock down forever, until the vaccine is completely right

Be interested to hear what the people not wanting to get the vaccine on this thread will be doing if NSW goes ahead and doesn't let people without a vaccine go out for dinners etc :) This may well follow in other Australian states too....

I am ready to be vaccinated anytime. Leaning towards Pfizer because that seems to be the one the world leaders are getting and I would assume they have the best possible advice. But I would be ok with AZ as well. I just want to be sure there is some kind of documentation to facilitate travel. Yellow card or electronic version or whatever.

There is a lot of speculation that in Norway the Pfizer jab was administered to those in palliative care.

If true, and I'm not a doctor, but to me I feel it is a waste of precious vaccine resource and also no surprise at all some sadly died after the fact.

I did hear on the radio that everyone in Norway living in aged care was given the vaccination, even if it is known that their death was imminent.

RNA (compared to DNA) has an extra hydroxyl group (-OH) which means it degrades super quickly - so needs to be stored at -70 for prolonged storage. It's stable for like an hour or so once you thaw it so will be warmed before it goes into you ;)

Once it is injected it gets into cells quickly and the RNA is copied into DNA which is more stable.

Thanks :) . So, the mRNA goes into the muscle tissue and then is copied into ?local cells? DNA. I guess then it replicates ?throughout the body? or it targets the 'stuff' that operates on the virus particles? Any links to explain how it works mechanically would be valued.

Lots of compalints from WHO today about healthy young people in wealthy countries getting vaccines already whilst health workers and old people in poorer countries havent yet received any vaccine.

I have friends who have been vaccinated in US (all health workers) and know of family friends in UK (over 75) who have been vacinated, but Im not aware of any countries which are actively vaccinating younger people who are not front line workers. If there are which counties?

Indonesia.

But apparently it's because the Sinovac vaccine hasn't completed stage 3 trials for its safety for the 'elderly': Young people first: Indonesia’s COVID vaccine strategy questioned

Indonesia

Thanks for that. So not a peer reviewed vaccine, and not really a wealthy country?

China have form using poorer country as test subjects for their vaccines - they probably consider Indonesia their phase 3, I know already being using Brazil's poor in earlier phases.

Maybe they’re thinking about Israel.
I believe that they’ve vaccinated about 30% of their population.
It’s hard to believe that they could all be front line or aged.

NB: Not having a go at Israel, just idle speculation re: WHO complaint.

WHO have pretty much no credibility in my eyes, not sure how much they have worldwide either. They are complicit with the Chinese government as to how this virus spread so widely in the first place. I'd say their actions in trying to downplay it to avoid any criticism toward China was extremely immoral.

Regardless you could argue that giving vaccines to adults under 75 would be the better outcome as they are most likely to be spreading it.

Yes Israel was my initial thought too, but israel is using the Pfizer vaccine which isnt able to be shipped and disributed in many poorer parts of the world due to the temperature requirements.

I wouldnt want to receive the Chinese or Russian developed vaccines as they have not been properly peer reviewed yet, and I dont trust taht their govenrments havent concealed any issues - as both govenrmnets have histry fo censorship and cover ups.
