Not an airline, but just as sad for the staff and travellers.

Due to the continual lockdown of our external borders and no indication of when they might reopen, Gate1Travel AU&NZ is shutting up shop permanently, all deposits being refunded and all staff now out of a job.

All tours worldwide for the parent company in the US have been cancelled through March 2021.

A sad day for all those involved.

Airline related - DNATA fires 1000 Australians. Seems like the oil money from Emirates dried up :(

DNATA TO MAKE 1,000 EMPLOYEES REDUNDANT

Dnata is set to make around 1,000 workers redundant, Australian Aviation can reveal.

The business has yet to publicly confirm numbers but said in a statement on Monday afternoon the job losses would, “where possible”, come through a combination of voluntary redundancy and flexible working.

However, a memo sent to staff obtained by Australian Aviation reveals the numbers will be “in the order of 1,000 roles from our workforce”.

Dnata has been unable to claim JobKeeper – which provides struggling Australian businesses with $1,500 per employee, per fortnight – because it’s owned by a “sovereign entity”. Dnata is controlled by the Emirates Group, which is in turn run by the state government of Dubai.

Lufthansa has announced further fleet reductions with all A380 and A340-600 planes to be retired and only reactivated if there is an unexpected rise in demand.

Not folding but Fiji airways are returning planes whose lease is up so flew a B737 from NAN-UK.
